The rumour mill has been working over time and now it's been confirmed. Rita and Dennis are getting engaged next week and it looks like it'll be a summer wedding for them both.
Rita and Dennis getting married is something we fans have voted for here on the Coronation Street Blog.
The fab Inside Soap magazine reveals that next week Dennis tells Rita he plans to move away to the Midlands. The prospect of being torn apart forces Rita and Dennis into being honest about their emotions, prompting a very touching proposal.
But the proposal takes place after Dennis gets jealous when he spots Lewis flirting with Rita and Dennis is quick to make it clear that he's got his sights on the red-haired siren of the Street.
However, don't forget that Dennis did a runner on this wedding day many years ago so it just might be a case of history repeating itself with Rita...

What on earth are the script writers up to with this story line it is rather ludicrous.Lets hope there isn't a marriage.
Aww, I think it's cute. A senior romance - nice to have a senior couple other than Ken and Deirdre. Will they be the oldest couple to marry in street history, surpassing Betty and Billy Williams?
This sounds beautiful! I've always loved Rita and have grown to love Dennis (having watched clips of his original stint).
I truly hope this wedding goes ahead. If anything, it will give Rita's character a totally different, unexpected direction. The idea of Rita living in wedded bliss with Dennis in her later years avoids that stereotypical (and hopefully) far-in-the-future exit storyline of "feeling ill, going to go live with Mavis".
Let's hope we see a new direction to Dennis' character too - I'd like to see him get some self-belief and avoid sponging off her too much!
I think it's lovely! I do hope the wedding happens. We need another flame haired Mrs. Tanner on the Street.
I don't understand why Dennis should even be sponging off anyone or wanting a job, he's surely getting a pension?
Dennis who?
Where did this come from? One hint months ago that Rita has romantic feelings for Dennis and next they are engaged. Yet with Tommy and Tina, we have months, (it seems like years, of will they, won't they. Rita and Dennis deserve better than an off-screen romance.
