Coronation Street weekly update – December 5, 2020

Corrie weekly updates from 1995
All the wit and warmth of Weatherfield
None of the waffle - and all for just 99p

As Corrie gears up for its 60th anniversary, lots of storylines fizz and spark, ready to explode on the cobbles next week.  The main story to celebrate the big anniversary will be a race to save the street from demolition by sleazy Ray and his business partners, who want to knock the street down and build a soulless development. Well, the residents of Coronation Street are not having that! Meetings are held and the locals try to stop evil Ray’s plan from going ahead. Ah, but will they succeed?  Well, Roy discovers that the old brewery on the street was where the suffragettes used to meet and it could be a building of historical interest, which the council will have to protect. Will it be enough to stop Ray’s plan for world domination, one cobble at a time? Tune in next week to find out!

Elsewhere this week, sleazy Ray calls a business meeting in his hotel room and invites Faye to attend. She turns up to find Ray in his dressing gown, his outfit of choice it seems, when it comes to seducing women who really should know better. He tells Faye if she wants to keep her job, she needs to sleep with him. Next thing you know, Faye’s in his bed and they’ve done the deed. Oh, Faye.

In other news this week, Yasmeen’s trial starts and both Yasmeen and Elaine take the stand. Elaine gives evidence against Geoff the day after he broke into the psychiatric ward at the hospital where she was receiving treatment and threatened her. Will her evidence be enough to bring evil Geoff down? What with sleazy Ray and evil Geoff, this week has been full of nasty men. In court Geoff reads out the affirmation that he’ll tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth and then goes on to lie through his teeth. I can’t have been the only fan who punched the air with delight when Elaine found the inner strength to testify against her ex-husband.

Over in Victoria Gardens, a celebration of Oliver’s life is held before his funeral takes place. Grief-stricken Leanne manages to lose her temper when Nick’s son Sam arrives, uninvited. She finishes her relationship with Nick and says she’ll move out of their flat. Meanwhile, Nick and Sam chat about Oliver in a very moving scene and Sam pulls a poem out of his pocket that he’s written for his little brother that he will never know.

And that’s just about that for this week.

They are going to have to tone Sam down. He has gone from being cutely eccentric to just plain arghh! It's the writing not the young actor who's doing an excellent job. I didn't find the scene with Nick moving nor the poem. These wiser-than-the-adults kids you see on TV shows are usually in sitcoms: Young Sheldon, George and Mildred, Outnumbered. Sam is highly intelligent but isn't picking up social cues. Sounds like a possible story about a child on the spectrum.

Sam is a complete breath of fresh air. He is very clever boy who also has a big heart. But he is socially inadequate yet I find that endearing to watch.
Those flaws combined with his big heart make him more than a child genius stereotype.
The scene of Sam reading the poem was very moving and heartfelt. The bond between him and Nick is growing beautifully.
Coronation Street struck gold when they cast Jude Riordan. He is utterly adorable and has such a strong presence on screen.
We are watching a star in the making.

I agree with Humpty. Sam shouldn’t have come to the garden. Where did Natasha think he was? He he just allowed to cross town by himself? They can’t live too near to Coronation street or Nick would have run into Natasha before now surely. Nick should have been more forthright about why he shouldn’t have come. Sam is not Oliver’s brother and Nick should not have said he could stay knowing how much it would upset Leanne.

I am a Canadian viewer so have yet to see this episode. But in my humble opinion Sam had absolutely no business at the memorial service.

Sam want to show his support to his father who he just recently met. He, like any child, want to make their parents happy. So, I feel that if Nick is sad about the memorial, and naturally Sam would want to come. Maybe they were to meet on that day but Nick said cannot meet due to the memorial? Thousands of reasons, and kids are kids after all.

I agree with comments about Sam attending Oliver's funeral and I thought Nick who claims he loves Oliver as his own son was callous to let him stay disregarding both Leanne and Steve's grief over the loss of their son.
If I were Leanne I would have been upset seeing Sam too and I don't think it was fair that she was portrayed as a 'villain'for objecting to Sam being there.

Faye had heard other women telling her what Ray was like yet she still went into his room when he was only wearing a bathrobe. This is hardly showing young women that this was the wrong thing to do. I suppose we had that scene last week when it was made clear that she had slept with Craig to make it slightly more believable that she would have sex with Ray.

I suspect that the Ray/Faye subplot will tie in with Gary's involvement in the bulldozing-the-street plan. He's not going to take kindly to his sister being treated like this is he?!
