It’s Christmas week on the cobbles and do you know what? It was done rather nicely, for a change. There were no explosions or shoot-outs, just emotion, fake snow and a bit of Mariah Carey.
David and Shona were the stars of the week, set to split up when each thought the other wasn’t happy. But at the end of the week, on the Christmas Day episode, they used Sarah’s keys to let themselves into Underworld and David decorated the place. Then with Max and Lily by his side, he and Shona re-enacted their wedding, one of many things that Shona can’t remember, and it fair brought a tear to my eye. It was well written, well-acted without a tram crash or a sink hole in sight.
There was even a Christmas baby this week when Toyah and Imran were given a foster baby, six-month-old Mason whose mum is in hospital. Leanne tells Toyah she’s happy for her and that she’s off to visit her mum Stella in France. But instead, Leanne curls up on the sofa, grieving for Oliver while Nick plays happy families with his son Sam.
Elsewhere this week, Todd continues to lie and wheedle his way into breaking up Billy and Paul.
And Gary’s quizzed by the cops over Rick Neelan’s disappearance. Maria’s suspicious of Gary, certain that he’s lying over Rick and tells him she wants a divorce. Meanwhile, Rick’s daughter Kelly returns and she wants answers. The pressure on Gary mounts up.
Jenny’s stepdaughter Daisy is still hanging around and I’m not sure why. I have no idea of the point of this character, or of bringing in a new actor into the show. Not only that, but she’s immediately given a job working behind the bar at the Rovers, which doesn’t make sense to me.
Yasmeen moves back home and wants to celebrate Christmas but is haunted by Geoff’s words in her head. He even appears on Christmas Day in her kitchen, a ghost from the past who isn’t quite ready to leave her thoughts alone. Yasmeen confides in Elaine about her troubled thoughts over Geoff and Elaine offers her support.
Over in the Kate Oates memorial ward at Weatherfield General, Adam wakes from his coma in his hospital bed. He tells Daniel he knows who attacked him and reckons it was Peter, but Peter denies being the culprit.

I really enjoyed the wedding reenactment, so nice to have something happy on Christmas day. Max and Lily's reappearance was good too. Max is so tall now!
I totally agree Louby, I really enjoyed this episode. The "wedding" was really well done, and loved David's take on it, and it was nice to see Max and Lily.
I even jumped when I saw Geoff again, and really felt Yasmeen's anguish.
A lovely episode, well portrayed, and a much nicer watch than previous festive episodes.
