Which current Corrie character should 'Do a Swindley'?
The great British actor Arthur Lowe may be best known for his role as Captain George Mainwaring in Dad's Army but he also played the role of Leonard Swindley in Coronation Street in 1960-61 and 1962-65.
In the BBC's Desert Island Discs, Arthur revealed a little about his time on Coronation Street. He said that he was contracted to work for the first few episodes, which lasted more than six and a half years after his Corrie character Leonard Swindley was given his own series called Pardon the Expression and another hourly series called Turn out the Lights.
You can listen to it here. Arthur talking about his role on Corrie begins at 18.16 - but it is rather brief.
I wonder though, which if any, of the current Corrie characters would you like to see be given a series of their own now?
David Neilson as Roy Cropper, I reckon.

No specific character but a specific setting - Streetcars. It would return Corrie to the ensemble acting of old rather than today's endless family sagas. I'd love to see surreal conversations between Eileen, Tim and Steve in their quiet times, bickering between Tim and Sally, and the difficult customers. Of course, there would be lots of material with journeys going wrong, possessions getting lost, driver muggings ....
I think it could be like a late night corrie show called 'bedhoррing' - this show is when they all рlay a form of musical beds and sleeр with each other so they all know each other intimately. This would mean that we don't have to show it on the regular show and get back to the comedy roots of the show. Other shows could be a hosрital one or a рolice version - then take those out of the show as well :)
