X Factor winner Shayne Ward turns up tonight in Coronation Street as new character Aidan Connor.
Aidan is a distant cousin of Michelle Connor. He grew up on the same
estate as Michelle and Carla when they were younger.
He arrives in
Weatherfield after hearing that Carla is having some problems at
Underworld.
Shayne Ward has signed a one-year contract with Coronation Street to play Aidan Connor.
Aidan's father and sister will arrive in the coming months - find out more about them here.

I was dreading his arrival thinking here we go, another manufactured ex pop person but was pleasantly surprised how easy he fitted in and looked natural. Let's hope he carries on as he started.

I'm glad they've given him a low key arrival. He isn't gobby or feisty (wrong gender)and his first appearance wasn't rescuing Carla from an assailant. So fed up with the clichéd just-happening-to-be-passing character who intervenes in the nick of time. Reminds me a bit of Liam Connor - happy co-incidence probably but they were cousins. We know Aidan's got a dark side but hopefully he will stay believable.
I,too, wasn't expecting much to be honest. But I thought he did well. Like anonymous said, he fits in well, and he also looks comfortable and relaxed in the role.
Expected a barrage of criticism, to be honest, but I thought he did a nice job, given his lack of experience. Yes, I could see tiny professional 'tells' that indicated nerves, but there's many an experienced TV actor whose been wracked with nerves on debuting on Corrie. He did a fair job of conveying a rather likeable, relaxed character, and conveying 'relaxed' if you're a bag of nerves demonstrates good technique. The only bit that made me squirm was his chat-up line to Alya, and they was the script to blame.
I thought he did ok, he was a bit nervous and rushed his lines a bit but at least wasn't over the top. Once he relaxes, I think he'll get better.
