Fab Photo Friday - April 25th 2014

It's Friday again so it's time for this week's fab Coronation Street photo. This week saw the publication of the wonderful book "A Perfect Duet. A Diary of Roy and Hayley Cropper" and so here are a few pictures of one of Coronation Street's best ever pairings.

I must say I am not missing Hayley in the slightest, which is strange as I thought her leaving would be terrible when it was first announced. And Roy has become boring just hanging around in the cafe in the background, I think its time he was axed.

Hayley had some very important storylines but as a day-to-day character, she and Roy were hardly used. And, let's face it, if Julie H hadn't wanted to leave, they would still be on the back bench. I found it very cynical of tptb to keep going on about how Hayley deserved the best exit etc. If she was that important, why weren't Roy and Hayley used more?

Roy needs a purpose. Granddad to Hope & Ruby is nice, but they're too young to be interesting right now. Maybe engaging with Simon, Amy &/or Craig over something to do with another of his passions, endangered bats, in a scout leader kind of way. Just a thought.

(Need more coffee, forgot to include the important bit. Kinda goes without saying, but...)

Roy needs a purpose BECAUSE DAVID NEILSON IS SO AMAZINGLY TALENTED!!!!!

abbyk I think your suggestion for 'Roy' is good; he's in danger of being grossly under-used, especially since 'Hayley's' demise.
I hope the writers come up with something interesting for him when it's his turn to grace our screen again. I too think he should interact with the kids in a meaningful way. I think it would be great to see a positive direction for these kids, especially Craig, instead of the almost inevitable scenes of trouble.

What I miss is the high level of quality of the writing that went into Roy and Haley's story. If all the street's characters were given such careful thought and all storylines were so carefully crafted, what a wonderful show this could be!

.... this is not only true, but for those of us who remember, that's exactly the way this once remarkable show used to be, but sadly is no more.
