Peter Barlow, circa August 1978

This is Peter Barlow as seen in Coronation Street in August 1978. He's played by Joseph McKenna. Peter has come to visit his dad and  Uncle Albert from far off Scotland and has the accent to prove it! He's 15 and freckled and you can't picture this ginger lad growing up to be the unfaithful alcoholic Peter we know today!

Off up to Scotland - came back after twenty years without so much as a Scottish accent...

Well he couldn't have a Scottish accent because everybody knows you can't be on Corrie without the proper accent no matter where you come from.

1978 - the year the writers tweaked Peter's age, making this lad almost old enough to join the Navy! Oddly enough, he celebrated his 21st birthday in 1986 (in line with his original birth year) and without so much a trace of a Scots accent!
