Coronation Street Weekly Update, October 17 2011

Greetings and welcome to the Coronation Street Weekly Update. I won’t be here next week with the update as I’m off to be wed as we’ve been living over the brush for over a decade and you know, let’s face it, I’m not getting any younger.  While I’m away next week your weekly update writer will be top man Richard Whitbread, who I can’t thank enough.

And so without any further ado, here we go with this week's Coronation Street weekly update.

Find out more about the Coronation Street Weekly Updates and why they've been written for th'internet since 1995 at

There’s chaos in the comping world when Norris and Mary dream up slogans to enter a cough medicine competition.  Norris doesn’t like Mary’s poetic musings and she bins the piece of paper where she’s scribbled her thoughts, only for Sylvia in the cafĂ© to pick it up and enter it in her own name. Roy isn’t best pleased at his mother’s dishonesty, neither are Mary and Norris when they found out what Sylvia’s gone and done.

Over at Underworld, Frank sends his mother in acting as his poxy proxy and she strips out the fixtures and fittings taking 40% of everything she and her hench mob can lay their nasty fingers on. This leaves Carla with nothing to work with and she lays off her staff.  There’s a wonderful scene when she sacks Sally. “But this job, it’s the only thing that’s, well, mine,” cries Sally with tears in her eyes.

Anyway, Sally’s tears dry soon enough when Frank’s mum Anne poaches Sally and she sets to work for Frank. It’s another blow to Carla who’s already been beaten down by the cops for harassing Frank when all she did was go round there to complain about him nicking half the factory machines.

Meanwhile, Sally gets jiggy with Jeff and he starts staying overnight, much to Sophie and Kevin’s dismay.

Eileen gets warm and cosy with fireman Paul and he stays the night at her place after a night on the sofa with the red wine. What she doesn’t know yet is that Marcus has spotted Paul in Frescho with another woman, a woman that he hugged and kissed and could well be his wife.

Elsewhere, there’s cuddles on the cobbles when Matt takes Tina to a dinner dance and insists he takes her out to buy a posh frock. Tommy thinks Tina’s going to get sick of Matt and he hovers at her elbow’s edge, just in case she changes her mind about dating a dishy doctor and falls in lust with a greasy, thick, grease monkey instead.

Also, Tyrone tells Kirsty that he’s falling fall her after revealing the truth about Molly, Kev and little baby Jack.  She seems like she’s got her head on the right way round, does Kirsty, but she and Tina keep having a dig at each other, putting Tyrone in the middle, where he never likes to be.

And that's just about that for this week.

This week it was a good week for the lady writing team of Debbie Oates, Julie Jones, Jayne Hollinson with Damon Rochefort and Martin Allen.  Find out more about the Coronation Street writing team at:

Hope you have a fantastic - and not at all Corrie-style - wedding day, Nora! Just steer well clear of step-children, steam locamotives and pre-ceremony bottles of fizz, and you should be fine. And if you should be feeling a little rough on the morning of the wedding, just you remember Rita's sage words to Mavis - an egg-custard tart does wonders for a hangover! ;)

Have a wonderful wedding, Nora!
Really enjoyed Monday's episodes, particularly the scenes between Carla and Sally. And the scenes with the factory "girls" discussing their lot and banding together, and their sympathy for Carla's predicament. Felt like "old" Corrie again.
