I used to love Amber Kalirai on Coronation Street. She was the cheeky kid who used to wind up dad Dev and I really enjoyed watching her on screen, she lit up every scene she was in.
But what's happened to her now? She's dreadful. She's never been the same since she went off to University in that London. She dropped out and flopped back up north to sponge off her dad, give stick to Sunita and now she's nicking Sophie from girlfriend Sian.
Come back, lovely Amber. We miss you.

She *has* become rather surly and spoiled and insufferable hasn't she!
Well if you had Dev as a dad, I reckon sooner or later you'd lose the will to live...
Ya..she's pretty lame. Sort of like a prop that they drag about now and then to say something smarmy and then it's into the background again. I cannot believe they are pairing her up with Sophie (who has turned into a right fareek lately). Not remotely believable
And this has all happened before - and will happen again! Remember Debbie McAndrew as the fantastic Angie Freeman? Her dry putdowns were legendary - remember her comment to Curley's girlfriend who criticised her dress designs as being for tall, thin 'freaks', adding "you're not exactly built like that, are you?" Angie replied "Me? No, actually, I'm 6 foot tall - it's just everytime you see me I'm either sitting down or cringing..." Genius! Then Angie left. A few years later, I rejoiced to hear they were bringing her back ... oh dear. The Dennis Tanner Syndrome. Back she came, and apart from pitching a great idea to Mike Baldwin about setting up a knicker factory called Underworld (and incidentally, didn't she remain part-owner, who promised to drop in occasionally when she left again?) she pretty much did nothing and said nothing memorable, because the writers of THAT period hadn't a clue who she was and were incapable of writing for her the way the writers did in her first stint. There is NO POINT bringing back great characters if they are not going to write them great!
I know you, Nora, are a big fan of Tracie Bennet - they brought her back as Sharon Gaskill and wrote well for her. Tracie turned down a contract renewal because she didn't want to stay long-term, but at least when they brought her back they had strong storylines for her with Rita & Natalie. It's not bloody rocket-science - bring a character back but have an arc for them. Or in Dennis' case, just give them SOMETHING!!!
Agree with this! She's become insufferable! If only these transformed characters who become baddies were at least interesting in some way.
You would have thought they would have learned their lesson after what happened to Bet Lynch, characters HAVE THEIR TIME, and hoiking them back again just for the sake of it does not work. I find Amber irritating beyond belief when before she was pretty harmless and sparky,
Actually I quite like Amber. She's a bit of a live wire, cheeky & mischievous. I'm fairly new to Corrie so I don't know what she used to be like. But people do change though, don't they? Especially at that time of life. You're a different person at 20 to the way you were at 16, so it's quite believable that she wouldn't be exactly as she was when she was on the show before, I think.
I disagree. I think Amber wasn't that much involved in the street until she got involved with Sophie. Now she is more into the story-lines, which makes them exciting. Amber is a great character that has caused lots of mischief, but she has made the story more and more fantastic. I do not miss the cheeky, little Amber, because i think the new Amber will cause lots of drama and tense, which users love to watch.
