Jim Shelley's top 10 things that are wrong with Corrie
Jim Shelley is a huge Coronation Street fan. He also writes for the Mirror and as he's such a fan, and has been for years, this is probably worth a read. It's his list of top 10 things that are wrong with Coronation Street. I'm sad to say, as a Corrie fan of over 35 years, I can't disagree. Read Jim's list here.

It's strange that everyone else can see what's wrong with Corrie, except for the people in charge. It's not "real" any more and there's not enough Northern humour from Northern types.Needs a complete return to its Northern roots.
Yep, go to agree he's spot on there.
And while we're on the subject of Mark - when he takes Audrey out for lunch I assume he has the soup? It's the only thing he could suck through his teeth, seein' as he never opens his mouth.
Many of storylines are based around outre "issues" - they are therefore *forced* into the tapestry of life on the cobbles:
Sean and the baby - weak script plus frothy low brow acting.
Cross dressing - absurd camp in the Carry On model. One expects Les Dawson to walk in at any moment.
Sian and Sophie - terrible wooden acting.
The script writers should stop pretending that they are a font of social wisdom. They do not do these important issues justice anyway.
I think it's really picked up since the departure of Xin/Graham and the quietening down (for now) of Becky/Steve... I love all the scenes with Gail/David/Audrey/Kylie, anything with Julie, Sylvia and Peter/Leanne/Simon. Fortunately there's been alot more screen time for all these characters as of late. Plus, I'm actually intrigued by the charity scam story too.
lol Digger, while i don't mind the Marc and Audrey story, that's the thing that really bothers me, the actor's clenched teeth!
I'll agree that since Graeme and Xin went, it's been less dreary. I am ok with Stella, looking to see how it unfolds with Leanne. I do like her fella, Karl, and i hope he gets a storyline and isn't just hanging off the skirts of hers. That Eva is awful though. I hope she settles down too or leaves. We don't need another stroppy madam unless they've brought her in to replace Tracy ??? please???
Good article, I agree with most points on there
I'm gonna disagree!
1. Ok, I agree with the chasing Enders ratings accusation, but the Stape crime spree was just hilarious.
2. Bit too much of Fiz recently but I got tired of Maria shouting Lee-um and also Gail; "He was a good man" when Joe died. There has to be some fall out from John's crimes and Fiz has to carry that.
3. Should teenage lesbians somehow be more exciting than heterosexual ones? I like the current charity storyline as Sophie learns a lesson about people and life.
4. It's quite silly but it's been played out quite well.
5. Ok, agree. Maybe they need more Jonathan Harvey scripts.
6. Becky and steve have to split for Becky to leave.
7. They had to throw the new family in at the deep end, otherwise they'd just be lurking around in the background.
8. I think their ambiguous relationship is quite realistic.
9. Give him a chance to do so, otherwise he just becomes a camp extra.
10. Deirdre's pots!
I agree with Rachel. Beside if Stella arrives and didn't say anything about Leanne for a while, then it doesn't feel real at all.
Agree with the Mirror.
I think people on here and people who write these articles have just suddenly decided they don't like Corrie at the moment but don't bother to actually watch the show and see what it's really like. If you're dead set on disliking it before it's even on, you won't like it. Easy.
Ah, so Corrie fans don't actually watch the programme then? They just come on here and comment without viewing the programme?
Hmm....
T'Mirror is right PC is too PC bring back the old Corrie!
"list of top 10 things that are wrong with Coronation Street"
More like 100 !
They don't watch it properly, they have already made up their mind before the episode has even been on. That's what I was saying, but apparently you read my post as closely as you watch this show.
If he thinks Corrie has lost his humour, he can't have paid any attention to the last couple of episodes.
True - Mark/Marshhia is a real crease. Will he/she/it ever unclench those teeth and buttocks. Will Aud let him/her into her wardrobe, which, let's face it, is where Mark/Marshhia is trying to get into!
Well, I cannot wait for David to find out his Gran is dating a tranny..it will be so friggin hilarious.
Good stuff ahead!!!
I see Jim Shelley has missed probably the most important thing from Corrie...The photography. Well how could we watch Corrie if it isn't filmed, or we end up watching 30 minutes on our TV because the cameraman has forgot to take the lens cover off? Anyway, the above is just a little joke, but what I really do find should be on the list of 'Jim Shelley's top 10 things that are wrong with Corrie' is YES, you've guessed who I am on about...I am on about the cameraman after all. I love watching Corrie, I love watching the majority of the cast, I realise there has been a lot of effort put into this soap by actors, writers and others, then it is totally spoilt for me because the camera operator is either walking around filming, zooming too much, GOING FROM ONE PERSON TO ANOTHER CONTINUOUS at times, moving around people when they are standing or sitting still, and NO TRIPOD STAND USED as you see the camera 'shaky' to sometimes 'very shaky'.
I am not deaf, but I do sometimes like to use the TEXT button on my remote to follow the words especially if there is any noise or youngsters outside, and because the text is shown without any movement at all, my eyes always seem to hurt after a while, because the camera is shaking or moving about. If the camera was on a tripod, this would improve the photography. I don't mind a little moving about at times, but not throughout the whole half - hour. Because of this bad photography work as I put it, I am pleased when Corrie has come to and end, while been disappointed that I couldn't get into watching something that I had been waiting to see all day. I am not the only person to complain about this bad photography please see the following:- 'A storm in a Coronation Street teacup' and also 'Songs reflecting Coronation street scenes' on the Coronation Street Blog page.
