Should John Stape die?

The final chapter in the Stapegate saga hits the screens all next week. By the end of the week, we should know his fate. We know it's going to climax on the roof of the hospital but spoilers are still circumspect as to whether John will die or escape.

Personally, I want him to die. This isn't as harsh as it sounds. I think there are good reasons for it. Read about them here and let us know what you think. Should Stape be dead and buried or live to haunt Fiz another day?

Probably put him back into the mental health facility and he'll live to haunt Fiz another day!!

I've been avoiding spoilers on this story and really don't want to know what happens on the roof until I see it.

I've been a John Stape/Graeme Hawley fan since day 1, so if there were a *logical* way for him to come back from rehab, then please please please. Maybe in the hospital, after a time, he could, say, use his teaching nature to connect with the autistic or traumatized, as a sort of therapist. Or a writer (I've said that before, sorry for being repetitious). Bring him back in the nick of time to prevent Fiz from making a stupid mistake with an evil future fiance. Or afterwards, when older Hope feels alone.

He's an intelligent character and needs an intelligent story line. A transparent plot device, like Tracy's release, would be a waste. I'm sure if they try, they can find a reasonable way to bring him back.

If they haven't killed him off already.

I think Johnny Stape's gonna die, but I think he's already been punished enough for his (mainly accidental) crimes by his breakdown and near insanity. You say it started and ends with a kidnapping, but didn't it start earlier than that with his seduction by Rosie after she was rejected by Liam who was in love with Carla? One could argue that it started and ends in the factory!

I'm a fan of Stape as well. He gave the Cobbles a different kind of character -- someone educated, with idealistic views, but of course, incredibly flawed. In general, I really hate seeing characters die unless it's an inevitable or "natural death" through disease or old age -- it's partly because of sentimental reasons but also, sudden death tends to be too convenient and a lazy plot device.

To save the character of Fiz I'm afraid he needs to die. The return of a character classed as 'evil' or 'unstable' is never as good as the build up to the return- look at Tony Gordon. Alan Bradley died and Rita went on to have great storylines without the constant 'what if' hanging over her head. I have loved John and have enjoyed the majority of the storylines he has had but his time on the cobbles is up and he needs 'closure' (even though I hate that phrase!)

Rosie's crush on Liam set a lot of bad things in motion: she got revenge by telling Tony about CarLiam and look how that ended up, plus her pursuit of Stape.

I really like Graeme Hawley and dont want him to leave. I haven't looked at spoilers either. But I think they've pushed the character SO far/milked the story so dry that he HAS to die - worse luck.

No way. He should live. The Genius writer's of Corrie know what they're doing.

He's got the potential to be the most famous serial killer (by de-fault) on British Soap history...quite possibly in Soap history period.

The writer's want a challenge, and it would be the ultimate challange to keep his character a 'presence' on and off screen for another year running. He has Rosie Webster to kill for destroying his life in the first place, he's got Chesney to kill for ruining his last chance at a normal life. He's got Charolette's parents to kill for being eyewitnesses and he's got to return for his daughter.

The character has turned into a great potential and his fanbase is growing widely on facebook, twitter etc. Keep Stape in. The storyline is so amazingly dark and funny, and a different take on serial killer Richard. John has Comedy. He's more Serial Dad than Norman Bates and I loved the references to Psycho, Halloween and the Shining in last weeks Corrie.

EastEnders writers should go back to school and re-sit their GCSE English! Corrie all the way. Please keep this character ALIVE!!! Graeme Hawley is such a great actor.
