Corrie Comicals week ending 20 November 2020


There has been some back and forth banter between Sean, Todd nobly defending the courts system, Beth and Eileen who has reported the delivery of Sean's stock for his multi-level cosmetic distribution arrangements which are definitely not pyramid selling.  Having heard too much from Beth, Todd asserts that he would like to hear Kirk's thoughts on the matter and Sean spotting a new business opportunity (above) immediately announces a new podcast.  I fear it might sound like a certain J.J.Cale number!


Carla is having a heart to heart with Adam over the latter's uncle and her partner.  Adam has just observed that Peter is a man of few words at all times and that he seems to be on a low simmer most of the time.  But it seems that Carla is capable of bringing Peter to the boil, which although Adam only says "Steady!" probably should be regarded as TMI.  Adam also likens his job to being a shrink - but his advice tends to be more expensive; under pressure he also admits that Sarah is still under his skin whilst his exploits with Alina and Naomi were simply diversions to wind up Sarah.  Come Wednesday and after Adam screws up his re-union with Sarah-Louise these two head for the same bedroom.  Which means Carla has scored with Peter, Daniel and Adam.  Ken, Simon and Tracy must be wondering when their numbers will come up.


Faye has dolled herself up and even Ray notices the transformation saying that she looks very good and then asking if she thinks he says that to all the beautiful women (above).  Before Faye can say anything Ray himself admits that the question should not be answered because of course he does.  So I wonder at Faye's next story; she has decided she is not going to University, that Craig is the one and only and she has bought some make up.  With Tim and Sally leaving the Street has she thought about where she will be living in future for a start?


Paul has just thanked (the almost but not quite) Todd for putting a word in with Sarah leading to him keeping his job.  Todd asserts that he was simply telling the truth and Sean immediately snaps that will be a first for Todd (above).  Judging by the expression on Sean's face he does not quite believe that Todd's story is as simple as it seems.  Later it is of course (the almost but not quite) Todd who manages to get Paul into hot water with Billy when he dares Paul to wear Billy's cassock.  It is Todd's actions and words but coming out of someone who off screen could be Todd but isn't when he is on screen.


Now I am not well versed in church matters but an Archdeacon sounds like quite an important post and the bishop or higher authorities have determined that a house goes with the job; probably because at times there have to be meetings and discussions and also that given the (probably) relatively lowly rewards in financial terms the well being of an Archdeacon is provided through an appropriate residence.  Whilst I can see Billy's viewpoint has it been wangled as a plot line simply to keep these two living on t'Street?  And in which case perhaps the church could find some way of paying the rent to the owner (whom I assume is Peter or Tracey) rather than Paul have to work when hungover from a night on the phones?  Or is that just me?


Carla has been trying to explain the interesting men she met in the hotel bar the previous evening, there was Steve from Stevenage and Russ or Ross (presumably from on-Wye) and his no-name mate (who probably came from no-ttingham).  No mention that she might have seen Peter's nephew Adam who had been there having a drink with his wife.  Apparently good liars tell nice simple lies but Carla embellishes here with talk of the dispatch procedures, (Brexit based no doubt) and the M6 Toll road - lovely road, no other users and costs a fortune, highly recommended - and even Peter knows that Carla's tolerances for discussion of the M6 Toll road lasts about 10 seconds.  So he is into doubting her story before the ink is dry!  Not surprising he rings the hotel asking about his lost wallet to try and find out more later!

I was going to try and get some mileage out of the unlikely event that (the almost but not quite) Todd and (the almost but not quite) Summer could recognise each other when I do not know either of them.  However my colleague has already had his say so let us just accept it is one of those things!

Carla and Peter: their behaviours may be entirely authentic but where can this couple go from here? The writers haven't given them anything other crises. If this one is resolved, they'll go back in the cupboard until the next one. They haven't been written as having a pleasant, jog-along life in between their dramatic episodes. They need to split up, maybe coming back for the odd fling. We could still have Peter as an alcoholic, raging at various people in his life, and Carla making her own mistakes but perhaps also making a success of the factory. Keeping them together will get tedious, no matter how truthful the storyline is or how well the actors play their parts.

You're half right. Yes their behaviours are authientic and yes they have been given nothing but crises - and that's the sticker right there.
They need to get something good in their lives so they have something to look forward to and be positive about. A new flat together maybe?
If they get nothing but negative of course they are going to be negative.

Yes, Carla and Peter do need some happiness otherwise and I'd rather the conflict be an external force they face together as a team rather than the conflict being within their relationship.
Also surely after his latest relapse, Peter can't continue to live in the pub? Please writers give Carla and Peter their own place, it's ridiculius all their couch hopping from Roy's/Ken's/Johnny's!
