So that's where John was all along - in the attic, reading the aptly titled 'Paradise Lost'. Becky and Steve lost their little paradise in the Rovers, as Max was taken from them after the truth was revealed.
John and Fiz's little piece of paradise is long gone though, with Fiz locking her doors, thinking that John is out, when really, he is much closer than she thinks.
I am really liking this week of special episodes, Graeme Hawley, Jennie McAlpine, Simon Gregson and Katherine Kelly have been brilliant so far.

Really will be sorry that the bi-polar John has to go...he was a great character. Not too sorry to see the end of Steve/Becky/Maxay as it's been done to death but oh well. Where' Gail? Did she get lost in Nick's loo?? Also..loved Eileen's blouse and her hair really suits her..hope we'll see more of her soon.
Hah... you beat me to it. I had the screen capture ready to go as well!
For the first time in my life I deliberately took no notice of Corrie when it was on last night. I can't remember it ever being as bad...
I thought it was a spooky twist with John up in the attic reading a book of course! I thought yesterday's episode better than the rest this week with the tubby social worker recognising Beckey as "Kylie". I had quite forgotton about how the pair of them thought they had pulled the wool over the social services eyes and it came back to bite them! I do find Becky's obsession with Maxhay - "my son" - HE ISNT - a bit creepy.
The only thing I would really like to know is:
How did John get into the attic, it's quite creepy how that happend!
When the episode began with Becky saying she could face the future with confidence, it was obvious that by the end Max would be in care. For once, Becky was restrained and clearly we were meant to be moved as she exchanged “I love yous” with Max. Yet it just wasn’t sad, because the whole story is a house of cards.
Why on earth would Social Services take Max into care when he’s in no danger at all, let alone imminent danger? It’s difficult enough to find temporary foster care for emergencies, never mind frivolous reasons like a need to increase the drama in Britain’s Got Talent Semi Finals Week.
What about David and Kylie acting like two bored teenagers hanging around a street corner, as Max is taken away? No show of concern? No interest in what is going on? It’s not really surprising from Kylie, since she’s shown far more interest in Audrey’s Salon than in Max, but suddenly David has nothing to say, after shooting his mouth off for months.
Anyway, character is subservient to plot. David and Kylie might not be the brightest sparks in the bonfire, but until now, they weren’t educationally sub-normal. Yes, David. The only way for Kylie to get Max back is to admit to Social Services that she sold him to her sister for £25,000, swanned off to Cyprus with someone she hardly knew, blew all the money and showed absolutely no interest in Max until she returned to the Street. Even then, it was like she was inquiring about some distant relative, she barely knew. Judges must be queuing up to hand her custody.
This is utter rubbish, but what’s worse it is damaging rubbish. Social Workers have a difficult enough job to do, without being portrayed as hard nosed, busybody Jobsworths. I am only surprised they did not act like the Childcatcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, luring Max from the only stable home he has known with promises of lollipops. There is something sickening about TV Producers and Writers, who are probably paid three or four times as much as the average Social Worker, conveying to the nation that Social Workers are interfering bureaucrats who can’t wait to snatch children from their homes on a whim.
The plot has more holes than a string vest. It is clear that ITV bosses care for nothing except squeezing the maximum revenue from Coronation Street and its reputation for good writing and research is going to the wall. ITV is treating millions of viewers as brain dead morons who cannot see through this drivel. Big mistake.
Totally agree about all the gaping plot holes, which is why I'm glad this storyline is finishing
Excellent post Adam R, but Chewy IS it finishing or is Max going to live across the road with Granny Gail who doesnt really want him? How rude was David yesterday telling her to clear off when the social worker was coming, its HER house, I wish the grusome twosome would clear off and stand on their own two feet for once.
Yes Adam, excellent post.
As much as I've written about how I loath and detest Becky, I have to admit that in Wednesday's episode, she was excellent. Shame then that she reverted to her usual, completely over the top and utterly unbelievable self the following night? Sometimes less is more.
Isnt Max residing with the MacDonalds subject to a Court Order? The Social wouldnt just be able to take him back without resorting to the Court and considering he is not in imminent danger, quite the opposite, they would not have removed him. This is not showign social workers in a good light.
How in god's name did John manage to find his way in to the loft?According to Maria, John left the house through the back door,so either Maria is helping John or the writers forget what they have previously written.
