There's a Coronation Street spoiler in today's News of the World, so take it with your usual pinch of salt and read on. The paper says that Chris Gray (Will Thorp) and Cheryl (Holly Quin-Ankrah) are leaving Coronation Street along with their son, Russ.
The paper says that the three of them are being written out after Chris develops a brain tumour. He begs Cheryl to go with him to a specialist consultant - who confirms Chris has a tumour on his brain and it's too late for surgery. Chris sobs to Cheryl: "Why me? I'm too young to die." It makes her realise she still has strong feelings for him - and she decides to nurse him to the end. After Chris discovers the extent of his illness he dumps girlfriend Maria Connor (Samia Smith) and goes back to Cheryl. Soon afterwards Chris, Cheryl and Russ leave the street for good.
Ta-ra then, I say. I never liked Chris, and Cheryl was much underused.

Disgusted they would have Cheryl go back to Chris for whatever reason. Very irresponsible on the part of the writers.
A brain tumour? This isn't Corrie, it's Days of Our Lives! No doubt Chris's doctor will be the neurosurgeon Dr Drake Ramore. Who will turn out to be someone's long lost father. But surely that's far too ridiculous and improbable. Wait a minute...

Will not be sorry to see this lot go. Cheryl was smarmy and smug far too often for my liking and I could never get past Chris being turned into an alien life form on Dr Who.

I appreciate all the hard work you guys put in & I love this blog site for all things Corrie, but would be alot happier without all the "Anonymous" comments. I'd much rather see who is saying what by way of some sort of registered login name....real or not. It might deter some of the trolls....lol.

Thanks for your support Kim. I'd rather not go to moderated comments or logins. We've been going since 2007 with no problems as an unmoderated blog and don't want to be hectored by a blog troll into moderating access for all the Corrie fans who enjoy the blog. They'll go away when/if they get a life ;-)
What? Who came up with that dumbass excuse for Cheryl to get back with the man who put the boots to her on more than one occassion? I cannot understand these writers. Anyway, I guess that's it for them then...I doubt they'll be missed. Isn't the actor who plays Chris involved with Samia Smith?
Ridiculous!. It means Maria's last FOUR boyfriends have all DIED....Charlie, Liam, Tony, now Chris.

I never warmed to the Gray family... so... I'm not fussed about these three characters leaving. They seem to be exiting the show with the same whimper they came in on.

I'd never thought of the Maria's boyfriends dying ratio - she's like a black widow without even trying! Perhaps this'd be a perfect way to get Maria and Gail into a storyline together, mix up the Street a bit.
I agree, lame story with her going back to a man that was abusive, no matter what the reason. But, in this case, i really don't care. All three characters were non-starters and they won't be missed.
Shame on the writers for this. So many women the victims of domestic violence and instead of showing an informative story they just put her going back with him even though she seemed to detest him and made another life for herself.
Yeah, Lloyd will be free and Eileen can go back to her old job at Streetcars! Wasted storyline with all three....glad they are going. Maybe Cheryl will be helping Chris to the end for the sake of their son, after all, Chris will be dead and no longer a threat to her.
Honestly? A brain tumour? There are a lot easier/more plausible ways to write these characters out... and yes, showing someone going back an abusive partner? Not a great message...
