Corrie "Royalty" in Hello
There's a wonderful set of photos and some chat with six Coronation Street icons, past and present, in this week's Hello magazine that's on sale now. This is just a teaser but the rest are really great too and it's in honour of the show's 50th anniversary. Between these six, they have 215 years on screen! William Roache, of course, has 50 years. Betty Driver has 41, Bill Tarmey finished 31, Barbara Knox is 38 years and counting. Former Corrie stars Julie Goodyear had 25 under her rhinestone studded belt and Johnny Briggs racked up 30 years as Mike Baldwin. That's pretty amazing, when you think of it! Pick it up this week, it'll be a nice souvenir!

Terrific picture. Such a pity that Anne Kirkbride, Helen Worth or especially Eileen Derbyshire wasn't present. I know that Julie Goodyear gets stick from some quarters but I for one wish she was back on the programme. She enlivened every scene she was in.
Yes, everybody is good at something and Julie Goodyear has never bettered her performances as Bet Lynch. One character truly worthy of the tag: iconic. Just mention leapordskin outfit and everyone has an instant image of a Bet Lynch/Gilroy type.
I too wish they could bring her back, but someone on the production team would have to engineer her appearances carefully, as the 'stick in some quarters' comes from her walking out on her last attempted return to the cobbles which coincided with increased airings of the show. She'd already previously left due to cancer and found the increased time on set too much, leaving the street citing ill health. The same thing happened in recent years with her walking off the set of another production this time citing a virus infection.
Given all that, it really would be a feather in the new producer's cap if he could succeed where others have failed with Julie Goodyear. But the current mood is to tram-them-off rather than bring 'em, back. And she does in truth suffer from ill health.
