Millie Gibson to play Doctor Who companion Ruby Sunday

Millie Gibson, who played Kelly Neelan, has been unveiled as Ruby Sunday - the companion to Ncuti Gatwa's Time Lord in Doctor Who.

The casting of the Coronation Street actress was revealed live on Friday's Children In Need appeal on BBC One.

Her first episode opposite Ncuti Gatwa's 15th Doctor will be broadcast during the 2023 festive period.

Gibson said she was in disbelief about being cast in the long-running sci-fi drama, adding: "It is a gift of a role, and a dream come true."

Congratulations to Millie Gibson! A clever move on the part of Dr Who as Millie will bring an existing fan base. Dr Who has been in the doldrums for a while but is now back in safe hands. Unlike Corrie which has written itself into a corner with Spider's return. He's an undercover cop, masquerading as a right-wing activist masquerading as an eco-warrior. Or thereabouts. I have hopes for Sam and Harvey which should be an interesting dynamic. I wonder how many viewers have started to watch Corrie since Will Mellor joined the soap.

I won't be watching Dr Who just because Millie has joined. Good luck to her though

Love Doctor Who...Millie is an up and coming star with loads of talent! Like Will Mellor too, but doubt that Corrie's garnered any additional viewers because of a few appearences. Seems more people are tuning and then just coming to sites like this to catch up without actually watching. However, the fan base has definitely shifted to a younger, more hip audience. I don't watch it much anymore as most of my favourites are gone and the writing is terrible. Still had hope for Dev , Steve, Tracey,Sal and Gail to carry the torch.....doubt it though
