Coronation Street Episode Review Monday 14th November

YASMEEN - ITV - CORONATION STREET

I suppose the "evolution" of Griff from eco-warrior to right wing nutjob makes Spider more sympathetic. Instead of narc-ing on his ex-colleagues, he's exposing a potentially dangerous white supremacist group. But doesn't he have enough evidence to get Griff arrested yet? He's hardly deep under cover, he spends his time trying to persuade Griff against doing Bad Stuff and in this ep, trying to persuade Max to leave the poundshop EDL. Spider's action against Speed Daal has gone entirely unnoticed as Stu thinks the red paint splatter was for him rather than some dumb bigotry. Maybe daub some racist slogans next time, Spidey! Alya faces up to Ghastly Griff in the Rovers and Toyah faces up to Spider saying that she's glad Griff is out of their orbit. Hmmmm.

ROVERS - ITV - CORONATION STREET

Meanwhile, in a shock twist that no-one saw coming, Adam offers Deedee a position at the solicitors and Alya is approached by Deedee to be a paralegal. I suppose this could be the next step in Alya's portmanteau career, but has she paid off that embroidery machine from her time in the factory? I do hope Deedee, who has fabulous style, zhuzhs up that sorry excuse for an office. Oh and there's some stuff between Yas and Stu, who seem to be back together now in order to let his granddaughter have her own bedroom. Unfortunately their snogging leaves Daryan isolated and the racist gang attack him.

BERNIE - ITV - CORONATION STREET

Top plotters Bernie, Dev and Howard plan to throw a fake party to celebrate a fake lottery win to lure in the fake Bernie i.e. Fern. It works as Howie tells Bernie his ex has been in touch but before Bernie can go meet her, she's kidnapped and thrown into a van. Well, I suppose it is a Monday. It's another case of mistaken identity as the kidnapper (who Bernie knows from The Dog and Gun) was actually after Fern. Meanwhile, Fernie and Howard meet in Freshco's car park and Fern tells Howie she still lurves him but she scoots off before Bernie can get there.

NICK - LEANNE - DEBBIE - ITV - CORONATION STREET

I'd totally forgotten about Debbie's money worries. Two of her hotels are for sale but the offers aren't flooding in. She says she wants to file for bankruptcy and Ronnie, who as we all know, runs his many businesses from a banquette in the Bistro, says she should sell her stake in it. Our Debbie offers her share to Lick.

And finally, Hope has decided to lean in to her new celebrity status and sells autographs for £1 a pop (£5 a photo) to her school pals. She tells Sam she is learning more about herself reading the book. Whatever happened to nurture over nature?

I know it would have spoilt the story but Daryan had just come out of the restaurant when he saw the gang. He could have let himself back in, banged on the door or yelled for help. No, don't do the sensible thing but run off away from sanctuary. I quite like the Max/Griff story line but Griff needed to be more charismatic as many right-wing leaders are, duping people along the way. He always seemed like a thug. A Peter Barlow-type charmer would have been great to watch.

Funny how no one was around to see Bernie bundled into the back of a van in broad daylight or a masked gang attacking a boy. Usually there are a whole host of street residents who are ‘just passing’ and overhear conversations or stick their noses into other people’s business.

I agree Humpty...Griff is an extemely unlikeable character. I suppose going from eco warrior to white supremist might have something to do with it....
