Coronation Street episode review, Tuesday 26 June

Toyah is still in the doghouse with Leanne and Eva is worried about everything that has occurred. Toyah wants to buy Peter out of the pub. Good luck!

Meanwhile at the Barlow household, Peter is a tad late to meet the estate agent. Ken helps his grandson do his coursework so he can curry favour at school. And in the cafe, Michelle is annoyed with Ryan because of the mess he has left at breakfast. Gripping stuff, this!

Emma calls Seb's hair a "waterfall of gravy", and Billy mentioned to her that being loud in the shower listening to Storm Zee (his words, not mine. I know it's Stormzy) is unreasonable. I never knew she was living there!

Flora gets ready for her son's cremation. Tracy, Adam, Sinead and Daniel accompany her but they worry about the turnout so look to recruit some mourners.

Peter turns up to the The Rovers and asks Toyah to bid for the pub, as opposed to get a loan. He is letting other interested folk have a look. Maybe Wetherspoons will have it. Lucrative advert alert! I know advertising alcohol is not allowed but imagine?

Seb makes eyes at Emma on the street and his mum intervenes. Seb looks nervous and then explains and reminds us he has HIV. Mum gives him solid advice about not putting all your cards on the table.

Peter asks Eva to take Suzy for a walk so he can show someone round the pub. Flustered, Eva panics and Suzy take a a tumble and hurts her head. They head to the doctor to get help.

Sarah has the day off and visits Gary at work, just in time for Ryan to arrive with Bethany seeking work. Daft Gary says yeah and Ryan has another job to make a mess of. But it does give Bethany the chance to say yes to a date with Ryan. It's let's wind up the other lovers time.

Eva and Peter get a lecture from the doctor but she says there is nothing serious. Meanwhile, Liz grasses Eva up and tell s Johnny. Lizzzzzzzz! Too late, cat is out of the bag and when Johnny shouts: "Why are you telling me this?" - I am in agreement.

Simon gets home from school and Peter has missed the appointment with the headmaster. Ken has taken his place and the result is suspension.

Rent a crowd attend the funeral and it consists of Mary, Rita and others. Flora invites then out for a drink, thinking they are real friends. Tracey sees an opportunity and tells Flora that her son wanted to invest in her flower shop. Flora does not fall for the scam and she goes and rests.

Seb visits Emma and books in for a haircut. But, in reality he wants to go on a date so asks directly. And she says yep. This could be a great couple. Meanwhile Simon's vile mates rob the till in the cafe.

Eva and Peter have a chat about Simon and he finds himself looking at the baby, in awe. Weatherfield social services arrive, well done Liz!

Peter backs her and he and Toyah begin to row. Social services look on and judge away and they ask for the details of the doctor. Toyah take them to the medical centre.

Some of Flora's mourners moan about her son's criminal lifestyle when he was alive. Daniel and Sinead stand up her her. Tracey roads Daniel and he fights back and tells her that Michelle was kissing Steve on her wedding day.

The rob dogs roam around the street and Alex guesses it was them and tells Leanne and Roy. The lads offer Simon a hard man's hoodie. This is feels a bit dated, and 'hug a hoody' for me.

Ryan takes Bethany out to the Bistro and buys a cheap bottle of House Red Wine. Bethany knows having worked there but still stays. Presumably she wants to be seen out with him.

The stereotypical social services staff come round and visit Eva and give her the all clear but say if she needs help, they are there. Eva does not guess who dropped her in it. Think about it, Eva.

Tracey confronts Steve about kissing Michelle. He tries to explain and she leaves. The Barlows have enough on their plate, as Roy has visited. And he is there when Simon comes round. He pretends he does not know what went on.

Eva is confronted by Johnny and he slings mud at her. She susses that Liz is involved. Quick as a flash, Liz is sacked from her Rovers job and Eva rightfully talks about patient confidentiality with regards to the Medical Centre.

Her son, Steve goes to the florist to explain his behaviour. He says the "sex is good" in front of Mary, and I die! Mary intervenes and makes a fake play for him to test Tracey. She reels off what is great about him and says he is good-looking in a "Weather beaten sort of way", and Tracey falls for him all over again.

Faye comes to stay, unannounced. What will Seb do? Cancel his hair appointment, or have his locks caressed and cut by Emma?

Peter has a go at Simon and sends him to his room. He answers back and tells them he is going out. He has the power and is unafraid to use it.

Kayla and Craig have a bottle of wine in the Rovers and in walks, guess who? Bethany and Ryan and she declares she wants to celebrate her 18th. Craig is quizzed by Kayla about Bethany as she plans to paint the town red.

The Rovers is filled with panic and anger. Peter is not won over by the baby or changing his mind. He knows his own family have to come first. He declares that he is selling up, regardless. Toyah gives in as she realises Peter is not coming back.

Simon meets his crim friends and they admire his loyalty. He has now become their 'brother'in true soap gang depictions. Johnny starts on Jenny again and Eva knocks the door on the middle of it. She stands up to him and she needed to. Jenny defends him and Eva declares no access to the baby from now onwards.

A few dated stereotypes in this episode. But, nice to see underdogs fighting back and people talking common sense.

Until next time, .whenever that is!.

Liz needs sacking.
Simon needs whacking.
Eva needs backing.
And Johnny can go to hell.

You have done a cracking review in 4 lines, and I agree!

3 completely unrelated comments

As soon as Peter said "I'll be there" (re the meeting with Simon's headteacher) you knew he wouldn't be.

Why does Liz say 'Dr Gadash'? everybody else seems to be able to say Gaddas.

I find Flora really annoying with that 'old lady' voice.

Yes Jane, yes! (to all three comments actually)…… but in the case of Flora, it maybe the actress at fault, surely she's not directed to speak like that?

Please send Simon to young offenders. He keeps getting off everything and has been a spoiled, manipulative monster for too long.
