Stella Price's accent

Dear Doctor Jane,
I’ve had to come and see you again because things haven’t improved since last week. No matter how hard I try (and as you can see; I’m trying very hard), my accent just hasn’t improved. In fact, I feel I might have made it worse, because I’ve had to say a lot more lines this week and am worried that people are really starting to notice.
It doesn’t help that both my bloke and my daughter (who looks older than me), sound just like the locals, which makes me feel even more like a fish out of water than I did last week. I have made one friend though - Leanne. She's very nice, and we seem to have a lot in common.
There’s something else. I was drinking tea, but took the mug away from my mouth before I’d swallowed. Luckily the mug was empty, or the tea would have gone all over my top. Is this related to my not being able to talk like a Northerner?
Cindy – sorry – Stella
Dear Cindy – sorry – Stella,
I’m glad you mentioned the mug. I’d noticed that, and was a little concerned that it might indeed be another symptom. It’s clear from my careful analysis that you’re trying way too hard, which might indeed be making it worse, so my advice is to persevere with the Specialist I recommended last week and come back and see me again in a fortnight. I'm confident we can cure you in time.
On the bright side: your daughter really does look more like your older sister, so that’s something to cheer you up a bit I’d have thought?
Dr Jane

I thought anyone would love to look younger than their children? No reason to complain.. As for accent.. Oh get over it.. As if one place will have 100% Northerners.. Maybe when Stella left Les and Leanne, she moved to south and got their accent.

Yawn. The Cindy joke is so old and has never been particularly funny, are actors not allowed to ever star on another soap? And the diss of the daughter's looks are a) untrue and b) unnecessary.

I dont know what's wrong with your horiontal holds on your tellies but Eva certainly does not look older than Cindy/Stella, in fact its ridiculous to suggest. You can see Cindy/Stella from her plasic look is botoxed. Eva although annoying is an attractive twenty something. I think the accent thing is getting a bit tired now as well.

Don't care whether she has been Cindy Sunburn or whatever
The accent is trying to hard, to forced, The performance suffers because of it and if it was really toned down it would be so much more believable than the broad Victoria Wood sketch we are getting now.

Just like Xin the character has been crowbar'd in and had no time to bed down before becoming the centre of attention, Pub riots, attempted robbery, Illegitimate children all in a week or so.
It will push people away from the character, The hubby and daughter stand a much fairer chance not because of the accents, because their characters are not at the centre of attention, we are getting used to them and accept them more readily because of that.

Yes, it does feel like she's concentrating more on the accent and the performance is a bit stilted. She's only been there a few weeks, though, so I'd give her a break. She'll relax. We know she's capable of the acting part.

Yeah. botox. *shrug* No worse than Liz wearing outfits better suited to a 16 year old.

I think she looks awful on TV! She's obviously overdosed on the Botox. I also find her a bit wooden, the only time she let go a bit was with Leanne and the robber in the bookies.
And that Eva is turning into Lauren Wilson 2.0 I can't stand her.

But her boyfriend has a bit of potential, I'm seeing a lot of Steve in him.

I always assumed this was a space to respectfully discuss the show not to spitefully slate of the actors' looks. Maybe I was wrong.

Please could we give Stella's accent a rest for a bit.

Having been pouting with Mr Collinson and his determination to ruin the programme I stopped watching for a while and read the catch up's from these blogs. What with all the whoo haa with Michelle Collins accent in the press last week and it was time for me to stop sulking I had a major Corrie catch up. I won't mention some of the ridiculous stories that are still dragging down the show, but what I was amazed at that I didn't think Michelle Collins was as bad as I was expecting. I didn't welcome the announcement she was joining either and can be very critical in a 'don't change my Corrie' kind of way, so was pleasantly surprised. I didn't think of Cindy Beale once either. There are a lot worse things to grumble about (which I most certainly have and will I'm sure), though it has been far more "Corrie", if you know what I mean, the last week or so, as we haven't had a kidnapping, murder, child selling, attempted rape.... We don't need it at need full throttle, at least I don't and it's been far more enjoyable - though thank goodness those flamin' aunties have gone!
I think Stella and her husband aren't half bad (daugher = the jury is still out) and if used wisely could be the making of a good strong Corrie woman. IMHO

BeingCanadian I couldn't tell a Northerner from a Southerner - they all sound 'British' to me. I like Stella but can't stand her dopey daughter....seems to be in the Tracy mould.....hope Becky decks her before she leaves...

I've been rolling my eyes since she came aboard.Pushing her way in and Steve just standing aside. Sure. The motherly advice to Sean who she doesn't know from a hole in the ground to the feeble attempt at defending the bat wielding thief at the bookies and took the bat from him, but didn't think to pull off his mask. Eva is a right pain already..another Tracy with the glib one-liners...yawn.

I agree with the comments about giving Stella's accent a rest and not disrespecting the actors' looks. I'm sure Stella looks far better than a lot of ladies her age and she no doubt feels pressure from the industry to maintain her looks. She's probably trying too hard because everyone's making such a big deal out of it. What would be the harm in her having been a Northerner who spent more years in the South and thus her accent wasn't quite authentic anymore?

Wouldn't it be nice to see Corrie change their ways to help people stop buying alcohol as much, by either serving (on their new menu) Alcohol - free booze with their booze they use right now,or completely just selling Alcohol - free booze? Well, it would give people something to think about, and it could be added into the storyline as a new way to promote better health or something in that way.

So what if she looks younger than Leanne?? Stella is 50 in real life and Leanne is 32 so its pretty normal. And now the accent thing so what?? I moved to minehead for 5 years and sounded a bit different when i came back, who gives a toss?? its not real!
