Coronation Street Episode Review Monday 16th August

Fiz didn't start the fire/Hope was always burning, since the world's been turning,
Fiz didn't start the fire/No, she didn't light it, but she tried to fight it.

Evelyn tries to talk some sense into her recalcitrant grandson, who is still going along with the Fiz-the-firestarter spiel. D.S. Bob Abney is a bit more circumspect though, finding holes in Fiz's story. Alina is in agreement with Evelyn and Tyrone ends up telling the cops that Hope is the junior arsonist. I do wonder if the genesis of this plot was that the storyliners wanted to bring back Evil Hope so created a story to make that happen, or if they wanted to give Alina a new storyline and Hope's ongoing pyromania is the fallout of that. Fiz is released and gives Ty both barrels about his betrayal, although they later team up to tell Hope that she's going straight to chokey going to be questioned by the cops.

I have to say that Daniel is looking rather fine nowadays since he had his hair cut and done a little bit of time in the gym. I'm not really into blonds and beards, but it suits him  - he looks like a fully grown hunk o'spunk, rather than the rather weedy boy he was when he was first on t'cobbles. So I can see why Dastardly Daisy is after him rather than dopey Ryan. What is confusing is how she thinks she's going to become a lady of leisure based on Daniel being given a house. Considering Daniel doesn't have a job, apart from writing the (very) occasional freelance piece for the Gazette, I think he'd need the rental income or even the £400K sale price in order to buy a swanky place in Red Bank for him and his rapidly growing child and there wouldn't be much left over for a girlfriend to spend. Anyhoo, Daisy (mad, bad and dangerous to know) tries to impress Daniel by pretending she's read the poetry of Byron. I'm not sure anyone not doing a BA Eng Lit Romantic Poetry module reads Byron, not for fun anyway.

I'm not sure the Weatherfield Chamber of Commerce would approve of how Leanne & Nick and Debbie are doing business. I feel like Leanne is two episodes away from putting a horse's head in Debbie's bed. Debbie is more than a match for her though, fooling Ronnie into doing some "buying the Bistro" role play whilst she butt-dials Leanne as he pretend-negotiates a deal. Leanne aint buying it and she and Nick pretend they're going to buy somewhere in the Northern Quarter that does grazing boards. Debbie falls for it and offers to lower the price and voila, they're in business together. Debbie does know Leanne set fire to a previous restaurant for the insurance, right?

The Corrie storyliners haven't really used the Covid crisis as story fodder, but they've obviously been reading about recent parking wars. First of all we had the feud between Shona and Todd, now Sally's been ticketed because Inkerman Street is now resident parking only. Izzy's next door neighbour Fergus (who has presumably been employed on a six month contract so they have to get some use of him) turns out a) to be a traffic warden parking enforcement officer b) the PEO who ticketed Sally. Does Sally even have a car? I guess for the purposes of this storyline, she does.

And finally, Brian helps Abi with her victim impact statement.

Daisy is just annoying. How anyone cannot see through her is beyond me.
Alya had her number from day 1. I hope she doesn't get her claws into Daniel!
