Coronation Street Episode Review Friday 13 August 2021

Alina and Ty have spent the night in Fiz's bed - which has done little for Alina's sleep.  Fiz and Hope are on the run and Evelyn "knows" something is "up" as Ty will not let her call Fiz.  Alina wants to spend some time in the gardens remembering their lost baby and Ty agrees to do it at lunchtime.  Evelyn eventually gets Cilla's number from Chesney.  She phones Cilla - who has not seen Fiona for months.  Evelyn wants the truth from Ty.  Meanwhile Alina is waiting in Victoria Gardens where Chesney usefully tells her that Cilla is in Cornwall with her new bloke - there is no cover left for Fiz!  There is then a strangely shot scene involving Ty and Evelyn where the former 'fesses up over Hope; but at no time do we see them both in the same shot.  Evelyn tells Ty that he has to get Fiz to come back and face the music.  In the next scene they are both visible and telling Fiz it is time to return (above).

Roy emerges from the cafe with a junk shop bowl for a rose bush planter but when he crosses the road to the Seb Franklin Memorial Garden (SFMG) he finds it is trashed and Nina immediately points the fickle finger of fate and destruction at Asha following their disagreement last night.  A clear up commences as Sally and Abi wander past and the latter expresses no surprise and returns home as Sally supports the site restoration.  Once home and under pressure from Sally eventually Abi admits that she did the trashing.  Shortly before the end of the first half Asha arrives and Nina quickly accuses her of wrecking the SFMG because of their row.  Abi appears in the background with Sally and admits that she was responsible.  Abi and Nina argue and Nina eventually apologises to Asha.  At home and with brews in hand Sally talks Abi round.  Much later the clean up is going well when Abi returns, admits the memorial is great and offers a raspberry cane as a peace offering which she then digs a hole.  Nina is all smiles (above) in front of Seb's image.

Todd is sporting a stylish orange jacket labelled "Community Payback" as he tells Mary he is on soup kitchen duties today.  And who is in charge of the soup kitchen - Archdeacon Billy.  Would an archdeacon really stoop so low?  Billy gives Todd short shrift, feeling sure it is a stunt Todd has pulled and tells Todd to go elsewhere - which means of course that Todd cannot undertake his duties!  The soup kitchen appears to be on the pavement outside Victoria Court.  Mary intervenes talking first to Todd and then to Billy and the latter relents sufficiently to enable Todd to undertake some cleaning duties - firstly vomit and then the toilets in the Community Centre, completely forgetting that the reason he is on the Street is that Community Centre is closed following Yasmeen handing it over to settle her debts.  As ever Todd is trying to raise a smile from Billy by making jokes - the response is inevitably frosty (above).  Billy makes it clear that he does not want the jokes at all.

Along at the Rovers Daisy is not happy with Ryan - she was sold something as good as Ayia Napa and she did not want Ayia Nappy!  Ryan has a wry smile at the joke.  And Daisy added she wanted Coachella not Nutella!  Ryan departs to do his gig - as Daniel wanders into the Rovers for a beer - and suddenly Daisy lights up like a Christmas tree, cracks a few more jokes and starts flirting with the new house owning Barlow.  Daisy even things Bertie is adorable!  A little later Johnny observes on Daisy in full flirt mode to Sean who observes that they are talking absolute pretentious drivel - as we then hear!  Jenny also assures Johnny that Daisy is just being Daisy - she is always like that and Johnny is not in charge any longer.  Daisy and Daniel start on a bottle of chardonnay.  Jenny takes a few seconds to give Daisy some words of advice but the latter is unimpressed.  Ryan returns his set having been cancelled due to a blown speaker; Daisy rapidly changes horses and offers Ryan some TLC (above) - an offer which is rapidly accepted by Ryan.  Both Daniel and Daisy feel there might be some unfinished business.

Fiz returns to the Street with Hope - seen by Alina who has Craig on speed dial and updates him on Fiz's return.  Within minutes the police are on the doorstep hoping that Fiona will enter into discussions with them, which she agrees to do at the station.  Ty  urges Fiz to tell the police the truth.  Alina and Ty argue as she thinks he is protecting Fiz.  Eventually Ty has to admit to Alina that Hope was responsible for the fire; that Hope was jealous of the new baby and she only meant to destroy the cot, not realising that Alina was there.  That initially silences Alina but she calls the entire story crazy.  She then decides that enough is enough and she dumps him.  The detective interviews Fiz about her disappearance with Hope and Fiz admits to panicking.  So Fiz tells what happened that night.  Evelyn tries to reason with Hope - but the latter is giving no ground - Alina should not have stolen Ty away.  Ty returns and tells Evelyn what has happened, but they believe Fiz is telling the police about Hope being responsible.  The police return to the Street and explain to Tyrone that Fiz has admitted everything and will be remaining in a cell overnight and having confessed it is likely she will go to prison (above).

Some great lines tonight from Daisy and a reference to The Shining from Evelyn.
