It’s Gemma and Paul’s 30th birthday this week and there’s a surprise party, of sorts, for Paul when Gemma takes a birthday cake and buffet to the flat he shares with Billy and Summer. But the best bit of all of this for me, and over much too soon, was Gemma and Paul dancing on the cobbles to Let’s Get Ready to Rumble by PJ and Duncan (aka Ant and Dec). I wanted more, I wanted the whole song, the whole dance, but alas we were just given a few seconds of it. A smashing little bright spot in an otherwise strange week, again.
Peter takes it on himself to help Abi overcome her addictions and throws away the morphine she stole last week from hospital. Carla worries Peter is taking on more than he’s capable of by trying to help Abi while it’s clear to all of us viewers that Peter and Abi are a disaster waiting to happen when they get back together.
But fear not, because the wonderful Debbie Webster returns this week. “Chill your beans, Annie Lennox!” Abi tells her. Debbie is great. For this fan, she’s like Jenny Bradley/Connor, that link between classic Corrie and the Corrie of now. So far, we don’t yet know why Debbie has returned but she’s moved in with Kev and Abi.
Over at Daniel’s flat, call-girl Nicky refuses to see him and wear Sinead’s cardi again. Daniel’s distraught and ends up talking online to one of Nicky’s colleagues, a girl called Cherry but it’s not working out for Daniel in the way he hoped it might. Plus, Cherry’s trying hard not to fall asleep as Daniel witters on about Bertie and Sinead. In the Bistro later, Daniel is waiting to pick up some takeaway food and Nicky walks in with a fella call Baz. There’s a scene when Daniel demands to see Nicky and she backs away. It’s all a bit bizarre and I wonder where it’s going.
Billy becomes obsessed this week with finding Todd Grimshaw. ITV have already announced that Todd’s coming back (played by a new actor) so will Todd’s return signal a split between Billy and Paul? I do hope not as I really like Paul.
And finally this week, Johny returns from Spain and Jenny’s not best pleased to have him back. Lodger Scott also returns and has a dark conversation with Johnny in the back room at the Rovers. Just what is going on between these two?
And that’s just about that for this week.
