Top 50 Corrie Couples - Nos. 22 and 21

22. Sean Tully and Marcus Dent 2007-2008, 2011-2012 (68 votes)

The first Corrie gay couple.

They met in hospital when Sean accompanied Violet Wilson when she went for their baby scan. They embarked on a relationship and Marcus was the one to deliver Violet’s baby Dylan. But soon enough the couple faced problems as Sean became paranoid of the men Marcus befriended. Marcus became tired of Sean’s jealousy and they separated and Marcus moved to London.

When Sean went to London in 2011, he was shocked to see Marcus again. The flame was still there and they retried their relationship but yet again the relationship ended when Marcus slept with Maria Connor and they embarked on a relationship.

Were you a fan of Sean and Marcus? Should they be at 22?

21. Martin Platt and Gail Tilsley/Platt, 1989-2001 (69 votes)

Gail Tilsley had been friends with young Martin Platt since his arrival in 1985, but it wasn’t until Gail’s hubby Brian’s death in 1989 that they became closer. Much to ex mother in law Ivy’s chagrin, the relationship developed and Gail fell pregnant. Although thinking of aborting it, she kept the baby and David was born on Christmas Day 1990. Martin and Gail married in 1991 and he adopted Nick and Sarah – Gail’s children with Brian.

In 1993, the marriage was tested when Carmel Finnan was hired as the children’s nanny. She was obsessed with Martin and tried to split the Platts up, but Gail soon sent her packing. As Martin was seven years younger than Gail, he was tempted by other women and in 1995 he had an affair with nurse Cathy Power. Gail forgave him but she wasn’t as forgiving when he had an affair with another nurse – Rebecca Hopkins in 2001. They divorced the same year. After their divorce, they still remained close friends due. Martin was genuinely happy when Gail married Richard Hillman in 2002. When Richard tried to kill the family in 2003, it was Martin who saved them from drowning.

Were you a fan of Gail and Martin? Should Martin pay the street a visit? Should the Platts be at 21? Or should they be in the top 20?

I liked Martin Platt... and if the actor is up for it, I'd love to see him return for the occasional visit. Perhaps to talk some sense into David from time to time...

I liked Martin, as well. I don't suppose they would have him back even if he was willing. You'd think David would say from time to time that he'd got a text from his dad.

It's so strange to think of Marcus with Sean, now. Not that I'm so convinced by the Maria and Marcus pairing, it just seems like Marcus would and should be with anyone other than Sean.
