What do you expect from the Daily Wail? It's hardly a bastion of women's rights.
What's the big deal? It's for Heat magazine, a celeb mag for women. It's not like they're in FHM is it? They're not showing any skin, they're just having a bit of fun. It was a great interview in which they talked about their characters and their storyline and how much it means to them, so what I find "depressing" is women looking down on other women as soon as they dress in a way they don't approve of.
And Sacha has said that they took the quitting quote out of context, they were just talking about how much they care about the storyline and how many young girls have told them they came out and have been accepted by their families thanks to them and their storyline.. so they were just making the point that they don't want them to break up.
There is no one being taken advantage of in this situation, so what is the problem?
Brooke and Sacha love the attention and know exactly what they are doing (it is not like they are single moms trying to pay their way through uni with 3 jobs and have no other choice). The people that will buy this issue of Heat know exactly what they are going to find inside (not really high brow, is it?). And anyone reading the Daily Mail is hardly going to flinch at the sight of two playboy bunnies.
If anything, it is perfect for Women's Day as they are women who are doing exactly what they want and are proud of it (regardless of what others might think).
Do I detect a little more homophobia from this blog? You should've learned from the 'can we have some straight men?' fiasco. This shoot was for a magazine whose main readership is female. Putting two women whose characters are unavailable sexually to men in bunny costumes is known as reclamation.
Anyone in the management of this blog interested in the previous day's thoroughly interesting interview in Diva? Didn't think so somehow!
I also think the title is inaccurate. It's Brooke and Sacha dressed up, not Sophie and Sian who are apparently the 'Corrie Lesbians'.
If anyone ever thinks this blog is homophobic then you need to get your reading glasses checked - and perhaps start reading another Corrie site as there's plenty out there who *do* write crap - or simply cut and paste it.
Tell us about the interview in Diva, I'd love to see it? Where is it? If it came up in our searches for stories online you'd bet we'd include it but it hasn't so I haven't. I will look online for it now though.
Since I'm the one who made the original comment, I'll defend it.
My point was that the two girls are being objectified and sexualised. Heat has a mainly female readership, yes, but it's depressing that they feel the need to pose in outfits which are designed to titilate and arouse - these aren't just a couple of short skirts, but Playboy Bunny outfits, an organisation based around the objectification of women. You can say "it's just a bit of fun", but Bunny Girls were there to be leered at. It's great to see the girls enjoying themselves, but the Daily Mail is printing that picture because it's two pretty girls in scanty outfit. They also look gorgeous on the front of Diva, in sexy, flattering outfits, but those shots haven't been widely disseminated (if Flaming Nora had to search for them, you bet they're hard to find!). And I bet if, say, Jason Grimshaw or Peter Barlow did a topless shoot for Heat, those pics wouldn't turn up in the pages of the Mail either. The shoot is more about "Corrie's sexy lesbians look great in a sexy outfit!" than anything else.
And I find it deeply insulting to be called homophobic. I'm actually a gay man, and so as you can imagine, that really is quite rude.
@FlamingNora hmm let's see - over the last month we've had 'Where are all the straight men?' when there are plenty. And now 'please split the lesbians up' sorry if I'm jumping to conclusion here but...
Paul - we have never had a "where are all the straight men?" post. The post was "why are all the NEW straight men being brought into Corrie misogyinistic in some way?" such as Frank Foster the rapist, Chris the wife-beater. Also, there's another new straight man Marc who turns out to be transvestite and gets beaten up for daring to be different. The point I was trying (and perhaps failing, who knows?) to make was that it was wrong that he should be gettting beaten up for being different - not that it was wrong to be tranvestite.
I'm a straight woman but am also offended and quite frankly upset that this blog would ever be accused of being homophobic (or indeed racist, ageist, sexist etc). I've let a lot of comments on this blog post even though as a feminist I disagree with most of them apart from Merseytart's well written comments. But it's live and let live - we all differ but if this blog is ever called homophobic or racist or whatever, I take that personally because I know that accustaion is very wrong indeed and so far away from what we're all about here on the blogging team.
I've got a K D Lang album and one by Erasure an' all but I don't listen to 'em all that much... I'm not homophobic though, they're just on LP and me record players broke! I don't think any of the bloggers on here would ever be homophobic, especially our Flaming Nora! She's brilliant!

Don't get het up. The criticism made is just a gay variation of Godwin's Law i.e. it's intended to stifle ANY criticism of current storylines.
If this brilliant blog is considered homophobic, what is the world coming to? Political correctness gone mad.
@Flaming Nora - this really is the very bestest ever Coronation St blog and it's great that people can air their views here in a 'contained' way even if we don't all agree with them - some of the blogs out there are pure evil! I think Brooke and Sascha are a credit to themselves and if they are having a bit of fun here, good on them! Ever the fence sitter, I can see both sides of this argument, but if it was their own decision to do this shot, then who is being exploited? International Women's day is about women doing whatever they want after all - I'm just jealous I don't have their fantastic legs, and if they want to celebrate being young and gorgeous then good on them!

1) This blog is not homo-phobic. If you think otherwise, no one's forcing you to read. It's also not the first time I've experienced this blog being accused of homophobia. I don't understand the impulse to constantly debate an non-existent issue. There is no homophobia here.
2) I agree with Merseytart's original comment. As a young(ish) woman, I think it's sad to see photos of these two young woman dressed up as sex objects. Doesn't have anything to do with the characters they play being lesbians or not. I'd just hate to think that young women see this and feel that this is how they have to be/dress to be successful in entertainment/elsewhere. There are ways of being/feeling sexy/sexual as women (gay or straight) that don't involve being objectified.
That's just my opinion as a woman.

Agree with "Anonymous". I think it's a very tastefully done photo, which Brooke and Sacha clearly had no problem with. It's certainly better than Samia Smith et al posing for FHM in a bikini. And perhaps some of Sophie and Sian's lesbian fans will enjoy seeing this photo - bring on Bruno Langley in his underwear, please! ;)
I'm also gay, and don't think this blog is homophobic. Some of the comments posted at times are ridiculous, however!
