There's confirmation from Phil Collinson's interview today in Inside Soap magazine that the Rovers Return will get a new licensee.
However, it won't be Claudia, played by the fab Rula Lenska, he says. So, who will it be? It can't be Steve and Becky because both of them have criminal records and that's why the pub had to go in Liz's name as licensee rather than Steve's. It's also why the Rovers was in Vera's name rather than Jack's when the Duckworths had the place.
So, here's the thing. Who would you like to run the Rovers and in reality, who do you think it will be? I just hope Tracy Barlow not's involved, that's all! And I wonder if Kevin Webster's lottery win comes into this at all. Can anyone see Kev as a pub landlord?
PS: And yes, that is me and Sunny Jim otuside the Rovers Return, taken on a very special day last year when we got to visit the Coronation Street set!

Dissapointing that it's not Claudia!
I am going to guess it might be Lloyd! Seeing as they were going to buy the Webster house, they must have approval for a mortgage so why not the pub? Kevin would be too cack handed to run the pub properly. Yes i hope it's not Tracy, she's got the cash from Blanche... and if she was let out of prison, and her conviction overturned, then she doesn't have a record. Oh it doesn't bear thinking about!
And I remember that day at the Rovers very well!!!
Oh wait, licensee not owner... If Steve still gets to own it, i still think Lloyd's name could go over the door as licensee! He and Cheryl and Russ can move in!
I just sat here and went through characters one by one, and frankly there is nobody I would like to see as licensee, Lloyd would probably be the best choice, but what would happen to Streetcars? Maybe it's time for a few new characters. They have to fill No. 13 too. Lloyd and Cheryl could buy that.
I was on the cobbles that special day too, but nobody proposed to me on Maxine's bench!
Hey, BBHilda, some days your ship comes in!!!
Eileen?
If Steve can run the Rovers & Streetcars, why couldn't more capable, not-strapped-with-a-Becky Lloyd? I think he'd be fantastic behind the bar, like Duggie Ferguson. He's already everybody's best friend, he's got both business & street sense, and with his music, has an outside life.
Just had another thought. Why don't they bring back Yana to be licensee? She could even run a brothel from the back room. Life certainly wouldn't be dull, but then she probably has a prison record too.
OK this is from left field but how about Sally? With Kevin barred of course and with S/S lined up as future bar staff for a couple of years time.
But yeah I think Lloyd or Cheryl too
Eileen would have been a good choice, as she's still close to Steve, but unfortunately, as of a few weeks ago, she now has a criminal record too.
Up until a few weeks ago Lloyd was pleading poverty and begging for the money back from Steve. Now he's flush enough to buy a house and now maybe a pub?? Oh how nice it must be to live in soap land.
I wouldn't mind Lloyd, he's a cheeky chappy that you can't help loving. But Cheryl is a flop of a nobody. Not Rovers Return material. Don't want to look back in time list the great characters that’s held the key to the Rovers and then up pops her name. She's wet and tiresome and drags Lloyd down, he's not half the fun or strength he was. Agree with many others, really can't think of anyone, and that's sad, just goes to show the lack of the strength of good old fashioned corrie characters right now. Sorry to harp on about "back in the day..." but it's true, you could have a que around the block with those that could have financed it and and those who could run it. That's what you get when you try to compete with shouty young soaps from down south and try winning awards become the focus. The aim should be getting back to Corrie basics.
Best contender so far for the Rovers is Fat Brenda (though I couldn’t comment on her criminal record)
Things we need to get back to is Steve, Lloyd, Eileen. Very unlikely, funny and sarcastic – this is the kind of thing I miss
BTW totally laughed out loud at Sean’s “oh my giddy aunt” ....... hilarious, summed up the whole saga on Monday
Just had a thought. Michelle is going to be out of work when she and Ciaran return.
How about Michelle as landlady and Steve and Becky stay on as owners. She's feisty enough, could certainly have given Bet Lynch a run for her money and has a superb right hook!! Becky wouldn't object since she's now fallen out with Kylie. Yep makes sense.
how did u manage to visit the street set
Really racking my brains here - Lloyd seems possible. But I'm not keen on Cheryl. Surely, surely not Tracy Barlow. Surely not...
Roy & 'ayles? Stuck, basically.
I am also disappointed its not going to be Claud. So where are Steve and Becky and Maxie the brat gonna live? Couldnt be Kevin, too short tempered, Eileen is too miserable, who would want to see that face behind the bar every day. Could be Tracy with Dreary as chief barmaid to put her stuffed marrow on the meny with Betty's hotpot. Ken could be potman.
Claudia would have been perfect and she wouldn't have stood any nonsense from her staff. Maureen Lipman was great. You need someone older to run it. Can't wait for mad Becky to leave, it's all me me me.
What about Gail? She's not working, just lounging around or getting out of the way during fist-fights in her house. Was there ever any decision on whether she could get the insurance from whatsitsname.........was his death considered suicide or misadventure? On second thought, they would probably lose money since Momsie-boys, Nick and David would be getting free drinks.
Good grief!! Quote: paulathomas said... Just had a thought. Michelle is going to be out of work when she and Ciaran return. Unquote
Please spare me. It's felt like some of my pleas have been answered with her gone and forgotten. Now, if only the same were to happen with Becky.
Steve doesn't have to sell the Rovers; the bank will not loan him further funds, but it's still collateral for what he does owe. All he needs is a licencee. Some of the above suggestions would work; Lloyd, Eileen, Leanne, even Claudia.
I second the opinion that Fat Brenda should be behind the Rover's....failing that what about Jim McD.......though I guess he won't have time seeing as how he will be behind another type of bar......too bad.
@Frosty the Snowman - No 13 maybe?
I'm also squirming at the thought of Michelle running the Rovers. Her standing fold arms behind the bar is too boring to contemplate. Low tops and clevage.... Bet Lynch she is Not!
Why btw did Steve finish with Michelle for the oh so rough Becky. Becky is so much more of a handful than Karen and Tracy put together and *they* put years on him. Did the writers think they needed to liven things up for Steve again because Michelle was dull and boring - if so, they certainly did that - bless him :)
(There must be some excellent gurns after Monday's performance - ha :) )
I'd love to run The Rovers... I reckon I'd bankrupt it within a week though...
Phil Collinson says Steve is keeping the pub and that it will be his and beckys.
what would be really interesting is to see Carla and Peter running the pub together if the factory went under... that would make great viewing!!! especially with them both being alcoholics!!!!
just wanna say that Alison King (Carla Connor) is absolutely incredible!!! She seems like such a lovely person in real life and I really wanna meet her!!!! flippin love Alison King and the character of Carla!!!! :D ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
