Coronation Street Episode Review Friday 24 April 2020

Dev opens the episode in Asha's bedroom announcing that they are going to the police to complain about the video.  She talks him out of it because if they complain to the police it will make it worse - a few hours and everyone will have forgotten about it.  Dev decides that she is right.  Aadi pops his new head around the door to tell his sister that she was wrong to talk Dev out of going to the police.  And she should stop reading the cussing from the trolls.  Can anyone explain why Asha's bedroom is decorated with spacemen on the wall (above) - it implies that Dev does not care about his children's decorative choices?  In the corner shop later he discusses the situation with Liz who reckons he's doing a good job as a single parent, but Dev is feeling that he does not understand the modern world.  Aadi's brain is working and he phones Mary (who has been ill treating some daffs whilst having a daffy argument with Tracy over parenting) who dashes off to rescue the day! Back at the Corner Shop Dev is brooding on his problems when Cathy comes into complain about Bernie's ability to provide customer service.  Apparently Cathy is now the manager and Dev tells Cathy to manage it; and he is pretty sharp about it.

At Number One Steve and Tracy McDonald decide that Ken deserves a new comfortable bed - he has chosen where he wants his bed to be and he might as well have a decent night's sleep.  Tracy feels that Ken might have been a little hasty in splitting with Claudia so calls her in the hope of engineering a reconciliation.  Steve later tries to get a pint in the Rovers and when Carla struggles offers some advice (above) which is not well received by Carla!  On the other side of the room Tracy is talking to Claudia - with no success.  Claudia has learned two lessons in life - one never regret anything and number two never buy cheap towels.  (The last comment clearly being a reference by the writer to Rula Lenska's appearance as Lintilla in the HHGTTG)!

I had hoped that I might be spared reporting Geomean.  Sadly not.  Geoff tells Yasmeen that she can do anything she likes today.  She wants to see a film and he says she can go on her lonesome as he wants to stay at home.  To avoid confrontation she decides she will stay at home as well.  Popcorn and a film of their choice - it is called lockdown folks!  Earlier she bought overpriced ham from a deli as a special treat for Geoff, yet when they eat it he does not like it!  A little later a highly worked up Cathy disturbs their lockdown day and sounds off about Dev and the treatment she has received.  Unusually Geoff makes Cathy stay and allows her to vent about Dev, which after the break she does, at length.  Given an opportunity to run down Geoff after Cathy makes remarks about men generally, Yasmeen advances the view that the fault in her relationship is her - women like to paint men as the villain of the piece, but women can be equally bad at communicating.  Cathy then asks if Yasmeen has more to say - indeed she does,  Cathy always blames others - rather than addressing her own shortcomings (above).  Cathy takes offence and leaves and Geoff has succeeded in isolating Yasmeen from all of her family and friends.

Mary and Aadi arrive to tell Dev that the video is now on a dodgy porn site.  Mary and Dev head to Weatherfield police station where he wants to report a sex crime.  As the police explain there has been a lot of illegality - but arresting people may not stop it.  The police will investigate - but they cannot take the website down.

Gary finds Kelly outside Dev's house and takes her back to the arch for a tea and a chat.  Kelly opens up admitting that she never fitted in at Oakhill - she felt second class and the other kids called her a chav!  But she got kicked out because Dad stopped sending the money and mum owes Oakhill £5k!  This is a bit of a surprise to Gary - which he does not show - as Sharon agreed to keep schtum providing Gary provided for Kelly's education.  Gary is seeing Kelly back to the bus stop when Dev catches up with them - Kelly departs and Dev wades into Gary who avoids admitting that he knows Kelly well - just that he went to school with her mother.  Dev shouts at Gary that Kelly is being investigated by the police - and Asha hears him.  She admits she did not tell him about the website because she did not want him to give up on her.

Finally we return to Geoff and Yasmeen - he has enjoyed the film.  He makes it clear that he would like an early night for some action.  She is very reluctant and he almost has to drag her up the stairs - which reminds us all that she was not that happy when he went to kiss her earlier.  Is there something wrong in the kingdom of Uganda (you may need to know Shakespeare and Private Eye to parse that question!).

I actually went out of the house once this week.  Other people do exist still.  And I may go out again tomorrow.

This episode was written by Mark Burt and directed by Brett Fallis.

Umm? Girls can like space too - things has changed a lot since your childhood. To implied that Dev does not care, perhaps he does care a lot to allow Asha what she'd like.

Asha and Aadi used to share this room. Mary had the other room until a year or two ago when it was decided that the twins each needed a room of their own and Mary moved to Eileen's. Various angles of the room show that it's decorated in two different styles. Maybe it's time to redecorate
