There's a story in The Sun today that reckons Peter Barlow will open a new wine bar in Coronation Street. The bar and eatery - in the disused Turner's Joinery building - will also have a wine cellar for more upmarket clientele.
The paper says this will be the first time a pub has opened on the same Street as the Rovers Return. How wrong are they? As blogger Tvor points out in the comments below, The Graffiti Club was also based on Coronation Street, where the medical centre's now based.
Running a wine bar might not be such a good idea for ex-alcoholic Peter Barlow, however. The Sun says that Peter wants his missus Leanne Battersby to run it. (But Peter and Leanne aren't wed, so they're wrong again!) The new wine bar will open in Corrie this October, the paper says.
Stop press: The Manchester Evening News says Corrie fans should treat this story from The Sun with a large pinch of salt. Why?

We've had similar rumours before that have come to nothing. This one comes from The Scum which has written loads of lies about upcoming storylines recently. Excuse me if I take this with a very large pinch of salt.
You're right. I've just heard from a very reliable source that this story isn't all it's cracked up to be. More later as it comes in.
I quite like the sound of this. Back in the days when EastEnders was actually worth watching, they had the Queen Vic and the Dagmar wine bar running in tandem and it made for some excellent storylines.
I also remember when Liz was working at the Flying Horse in the early 90s (?), so there's always room for two drinking establishments!
Richard Arnold mentioned this on GMTV this morning so it may have some credance but would Leanne really hook up with Peter again the way he behaved and the fact he has bedded Michelle in her absence?. And an alcoholic running a wine bar?? Could be interesting though! I can imagine Kevin Webster with a nice glass of Chablis!
I'm going to be pedantic here and point out that the Joinery might actually be on Viaduct Street, that runs across the end of Coronation Street. And it's not the first rival place either, Alec Gilroy's club used to be on Rosamund Street right across from the Rovers. Graffiti i think it was.
Graffiti was the club that Brian was stabbed outside, wasn't it? Didn't know Alec owned that.
I don't think Brian was killed outside the Graffiti Club, I seem to remember that one being down a side alley somewhere. The Graffiti club was where the Health Centre is now. I think it had closed by the time Brian was stabbed.
Ah, you are correct, Sunny Jim. It was outside Maloney's Bar, I've discovered.
It's a shame that this may not be true, because it sounds good and I really liked Peter and Leanne together.
The Graffiti Club on Rosamund Street where the Health Club now stands was originally opened in 1983 and was owned by Mike Baldwin and Business Partner, Don Watkins.
The part of Watkins was played by the actor, Kevin Lloyd who later went on to star in The Bill, playing Tosh Lines.
Hilda Ogden was also employed at the nightclub as a cloak room attendant
The venture folded when Watkins who was also the Manager of the nightclub absconded from Weatherfield with its takings. It was only much later (1986 or so) that it reopened with Alec Gilroy at the helm.
I actually read about this yesterday, but was skeptical posting on it, because for one we have heard rumors like this before, two, it sounded completely crazy! An alcoholic opening a bar???
yeah I remember The Graffiti Club openning as a nightclub with hilda as cloakroom attendant. But then after the story line faded you heard nothing of it till years later when for some reason alec gilroy was running it but it was a working mens/social type club not night club. Was this during a time when rovers was shut coz of fire or something and they all started going in it? It made me laugh though as it had not been mentioned for years and there was no story line of it re-opening as a social club or anyone ever going in it.
Well from the look of tonights Corrie then it is true about the new bar opening in the old Turners joinery.
