Coronation Street Episode Review Monday 18th December

THE PLATTS - CORONATION STREET - ITV

It's Platt Family Values tonight as the gang try to sort out their problems before Xmas. This is a bit of a variation on a theme - anyone remember the talking stick? Lily suggests a nice box where everyone has to say something pleasant about each member of the extended Roberts-Rodwell-Blakewell-Turner-Platt family, but just like a blog, it doesn't work when comments are anonymous and they're just rude about each other. In the end, it takes Sam being a bit sappy about his place in the family to get them all to be nice to each other, but still Audrey cant do it and she leaves in tears. If i were her, I'd go hunker down in Grasmere Drive. She does agree to have a formal interview process with David and Maria though to decide who is going to run the Salon. You know the secret to a happy family life? Living 200 miles away rather than in the same house as your parent and just across the road from your siblings.

DAISY - CORONATION STREET - ITV

Whilst all this is going on (and Nick is losing valuable Christmas trade at t'Bistro), daring Daisy is committing a heist at no. 8. After a run in with Daniel in which she tells him she doesn't need his money 'cos sisters (step-mum and step-daughter) are doin' it for themselves - this despite Jenny telling Daisy that any money they recover belongs to Carla and the factory. She doesn't manage to steal Stephen's journal but she does get her mitts on a new journal that Audrey has thrown in the bin along with some of Stephen's charity shop-rejected clothes and despite all the finest minds at Weatherfield police station (i.e. Craig googling "how to crack passwords") failing to get into Stephen's files, she's got to the £250K before you can say "hacking is illegal".

Talking of the factory, Carla turns down scrambled egg on toast with Peter to go to work, although she tries to make it up to him with a Freshco Finest ready meal that she unfortunately has to leave as the factory alarm is going off. This leads Peter to regret not moving to Majorca to crew a boat or whatever it was, even though he got to have a tops off, tats out hot tub sesh with a newly bearded Tim, which is a lot of people's dream, let me tell you.

And Ed loses the Christmas lunch money on the nags, trying to get money to payoff the payday loan. Where is Aggie? She really needs to come back to knock some heads together.

Some fab directing here, with a close up of Eddie and the eyes of Daisy over the laptop.
I think Reece Dinsdale (he played one of Gail's exes - Tina's dad- that died in a boat accident, faking an insurance pay out) has really found his feet.
He has an extra sparkle that makes the show fresh.
The scene with Tim and Pete could have taken place anywhere, but sticking then in Sally's spa tub was a genius idea!
I'll look forward to seeing more of his directed episodes.
Surely nick would want The bistro open and trading near Xmas? saying that, I found these family scenes rather touching.
I'm not looking forward to the return of Bethany but Damon and Linda are strong characters and it'd be good to see them again.

Absolutely the most boring episode so far this year!

Disagree Anonymous I really enjoyed the episode. The focus was much more on relationships than some hyped up shock horror action.
