Good evening. A short update tonight. Carla's nephew, Bobby Crawford is about as annoying as they come. Huge amounts of worldly possessions turn up as his Mum has sent them on - which Carla has to get into the flat. Simon takes one look and does a runner - moving to live with Leanne - can you blame him? Bobby later sends a distress text message, having spent the dinner money Carla gave him and Carla has to rescue Bobby from the Chariot Square Hotel where he convinces Debbie that she is a cougar! No doubt we will all come to love Bobby - but at the moment his introduction is bringing no cheer here.
Jenny hears the outcome of the sealed bids in a telephone call from the estate agents. After a long delay Jenny admits to Daisy that they have succeeded and once the legals are done they will be back in business sometime in the New Year. However everyone has to stick to the lie that there is a bank loan funding it - and not the money Stephen stole.
Paul has a new temporary personal assistant, Moses, and after a quick spot from about a mile away Todd pops around for a chat with his tongue hanging out. Paul is not convinced by Todd's denial. It is later discussed between Todd, Eileen, Paul and Billy at the Bistro and Todd's leg is duly pulled.
Dom's absence unsettles Eliza who cannot understand his desertion. Stu falls apart and starts phoning Dom to try and talk him into not cutting off . These are largely conversations between Stu and Dom's answering machine. They finally speak and Stu has to admit he got it wrong - but Dom does not want to know (would you?). Stu admits to Yasmeen about the German family - Dom's fiancee and son and then when pressed admits to paying Dom £10k to go away. Yasmeen gives him a piece of her mind. And Dom has apparently agreed that Stu was right all along. Yasmeen has more to say at home later - but we are not privy to that exchange.
Bertie has a thank you card which Daniel delivers to Daisy and she apprises him of the success in winning the Rovers bid. Daisy still has hopes - but I fear they will be dashed - Daniel assures her that she can see Bertie anytime. However he does suggest that a way ought to be found to re-open on New Year's Eve and with a few quick phone calls Daisy is able to pull off a miracle and the Rovers Returns on Sunday!
Finally I have to write about Ed Bailey. He has now lost the business account money he stole on Wednesday and therefore the numbers are now enormous. Dee Dee dumps Joel when he admits to knowing about the gambling. And it gets worse as she finds out about the insider trading in Newton and Ridley shares. And Sarge has a lot to say. Given that Ed has ruined the family once before and the one person who ought to be there - Aggie - is not - it all leaves me quite cold. I understand addiction is an illness, but this portrayal feels wrong. For the same reason Ronnie refuses to blame Ed - but given that Craig is now compromised, the chances of Dee Dee being able to fix the debts seems highly unlikely, although she does not go through with her threat to report Ed to the police for the insider trading - but does admit the law breaking to Joel - after they kiss and make up.
I am not sure Joel will be able to keep the knowledge he has gained to himself - an admission of a major break of the law and not covered by client confidentiality. The Baileys are very close to the precipice. I will be back this time next week. Happy New Year to one and all.
