Coronation Street Episode Review Monday 11th July

PHILL - FIZ - ITV - CORONATION STREET

Poor Phil(l). Not only has he put up with Hope the devil child, Evelyn's snark, Fiz's vacillations, and Tyrone trying to fight him, he's now dumped at the altar. My advice: unless you're Dame Audrey of Roberts, don't live off the street - you're never going to be a permanent fixture. He turns up dishevelled and probably still drunk at no. 9, wanting to get back together but Fiz tells him she still wants an annulment. She lies and says it's nowt to do with Ty, in order to get a quickie divorce. Phill's still not taking no for an answer and tries to woo Fiz in the Bistro with a mariachi band and a tuxedo. Awks. He begs her for two more weeks so he can change her mind and if she still doesn't want to stay married to him, he'll pay for the annulment himself. So I guess he'll find out about Fizzrone by next Wednesday? He later begs Tyrone to help him win her back and demands a "blow by blow" account of Ty's attempts to persuade Fiz to the Phill side, and asks if he "pounded it home" (NB: this is a Damon Alexis Rochefort episode).

Maybe Phil(l) will eventually get back with the fragrant Camilla?

Sally and Tim - Coronation Street - ITV

It's Sally's Xth birthday and Tim has spent a lot of dosh making a nice breaky from foodstuffs purchased at the posh deli on Balaclava Terrace. Hang on, Balaclava Terrace is now gentrified? They retire to the hot tub and Tim starts to feel something....and they run off to the bedroom for a special birthday treat, but it doesn't go to plan and he goes to drown his sorrows in the pub before making up with the bday girl.

Sarah and Stephen - Coronation Street - ITV

David is still moaning about Uncy Stephen controlling the Platt/Roberts family trust funds. Don't they have to wait for Audrey to die first? Talking of money, Stephen takes a look over the Underworld accounts, and starts going on about selling silk wholesale from his company to the knicker factory. Carla nixes the arrangement and says she doesn't mix business with family, which leads Stephen to tell Sarah she's wasted at Underworld. Is this the start of a new business venture?

Also, after attracting the attentions of Elaine last week, Stephen flirts with Yasmeen this week. He does like the older lady doesn't he? Is this a Freudian thing since he grew up without his mum?

Aadi and Kelly - Coronation Street - ITV

Kelly's mooching around suspiciously with a bag full o'cash, which Aadi sees and starts questioning her. She confesses she's going to make up for her dad's crimes and give the dosh back to the people he ripped off. Aadi unsurprisingly says this is a bad idea and she should ask Gary's advice.

Oh, and Stu tells Yasmeen he was drunk last week whilst he was supposed to be making saag panir and lamb biryani. She is very understanding and thanks him for telling her. Everyone's quite chill about this aren't they? I might try downing some voddy whilst doing the payroll next week, see what happens.

Why is Stephen looking at the Underworld books,Carla owns the company not Sarah!
I have a bad feeling that with Sarah's help,Stephen may take over Undeerworlds from Carla.
Why would Fiz even agree to meet Phil? She needs to be honest with him and put the poor guy out of his misery!

OK, ever since I started reading this blog I've become obsessed with the lay-out of the Street - last night Sarah walked into the barbers front door, and opened a door on the right which had "Redbank apartments" written on it. That's never been seen before. Where does that fit with the interior of the barbers, and the fact that Maria was cleaning bird mess off the window on the right hand side, which isn't the window to the barbers but the window to the staircase to the flats? And how do the occupants of the flats use this entrance when the iron gates on the barbers door are locked shut? This sort of thing keeps me up at night! Also wasn't there a council office or an estate agents or something next to the barbers? Now there's just a wall across the road. This sort of thing keep me up at night!

Jeanie (anon)

I find the whole Fix and PHill storyline cringeworthy. Coronation Street at its worst. Yeah, sure there were some funny moments, like the karaoke scenes. but the story is so pointless and uneven. Is it meant to be hilariously funny that Fiz dumped this poor man five seconds after marrying him? Sad? Inspirational (ie. true love for Tyrone prevails)? I find it bizarre that the writers seem to be presenting it as a comedy storyline. Yet, meanwhile, they go over the top to give Fiz a romantic fairy tale style wedding with beautiful white dress, bridesmaids dresses, beautiful reception area etc. It's hard to figure out what's going on in this hodge podge, other than to think Fiz was never going to stay with a successful, kind guy like Phill. Even with everything perfect, she has to go back to Ty and Zombezi.

I admit I may have missed a full explanation because I don't have the patience to watch every episode but ... What is this thing about the grandchildren's inheritance? Surely, both Gail and Stephen are the executors of Audrey's will. Won't those two get the bulk of Audrey's inheritance with small bequests for grandchildren? The way it's been written makes it seem like there's a huge amount of money available to Sarah, David and Nick but perhaps not. David treats Stephen like an annoying older brother rather than his uncle. I don't actually understand why Audrey's set up a trust. Is it to protect Gail from being manipulated into giving up her share of the estate? Actually, I think the storyline is going to show Stephen is not the good guy he seems with wives and children who are yet to arrive on the street.
