Coronation Street Episode Review Friday 29 July 2022

Evening Corrie fans, it’s Kelly here with your Friday night review.

It’s the day of Abi and Alfie’s return home and as Kev stresses out, pulling that face that makes him look a bit like a constipated bonobo, the police turn up on his doorstep. Luckily for Kevster its good news, as Stephen has decided not to press charges. It’s also quite good news for Craig as he seems to not be the only copper in Weatherfield anymore.

Meanwhile, after a bit of ribbing from Amy and Asha, Summer invites Aaron over to the empty flat for a bit of afternoon delight. The poor lad only wants a pizza and a cuddle, but Summer starts kissing him and then immediately changes her mind and tells him he needs to leave. When she confesses that she can’t bear the thought of him seeing her undressed, he tells her they should take things slower and cancel their holiday. Bit of a shame, I was rather looking forward to not seeing her mopey face for a couple of weeks.

Over at the Bistro, Debbie’s Psychic Night is a bit of a disaster. Leanne is moaning that it’s all a con and has reverted to her default arms-crossed, face like a slapped arse setting. Sienna the Psychic is about as genuine as a nine-pound note and Debbie has decided that her only options for financial solvency are bankruptcy or an insurance job. When she overhears Ryan talking about having debts, she tells him that both their troubles could be over if he stages a break-in. I’m still not sure I understand why everyone is so skint? Debbie owns eight hotels, and what has Ryan been spending his money on? It’s not clothes, the only thing he seems to wear is jeans and t-shirts that look like they came off a market stall.

In other news, Tim suggests to Sally that they attend the ‘Casino Night’ at the bistro and dress up for the occasion. I wouldn’t get your hopes up Sal, if its anything like the Psychic Night, the roulette wheel will be square.

Finally, after Stephen deliberately let’s slip to Abi about Kev smashing up his car, Kev’s forced to fess up about that and Jack’s fight at school. Abi panics that they're moving back too soon. Luckily Jack saves the day when he shows them both his beautiful leaving speech about embracing change and loving his family. Well, he’s a little gem isn’t he. Hopefully Kev will realise that and maybe give him the time of day once every six months.

And that’s it for this week. Unless we want to talk about Abi’s massive new tattoo? When did she have that done? I’m no expert on inking, but don’t those sleeve ones take hours? Where did she tell Wendy Flamin’ Crozier she was going for nappies, South America? If you have the answers, please do let me know in the comments or on twitter @mskelstar

Totally agree about Abi’s ghastly tattoos. And now she’s real life married to Tim, nice but dim, who’s also a disgusting blob of black ink, I dread what she’ll look like in another year’s time. Fictionally, how can they afford it? Factually, why do seemingly intelligent people continue to ruin their bodies in this way. Do they wonder how they’re going to look when they’re saggy 64? (You’ll gather I’m not a fan of self mutilation)

I would have thought that having such visible tattoos would limit your acting roles.

I loved Sienna the phoney psychic. This is Corrie humour at its best. Great writing and actually quite realistic. I've seen silly stuff like that for real. Can we have a shout out for the extra who waved goodbye to the spirit relative?

I am also snooty about tattoos. Often wonder if it's the actor or the character who has them. Quite a job for the make-up department to cover them up if tattoos are unsuitable for a rôle.
Psychic was pretty funny, not even hiding her notes 🤣. Don't see how theme nights are going to bring in £20 grand though.

People aren't as judgemental nowadays

Yeah soap stars never used to have tattoos but does anyone care now

Theme nights...naw...they'd be better off serving meals that would cost a fair bit than serve a couple of cocktails for a few hours. I can see a bar or pub doing this, but a restaurant? They'd lose too much money
Tatoos...while not something I have myself, it's a pretty common thing nowadays, up there with piercing and cosmetic surgery. I work in health care and the number of nurses who are tatted up is staggering..down the legs, up the arms, on the hands, fingers and necks. It doesn't make the person do their jobs any worse, or any better. I think it's a reflection of the times...not many on the street have tats from what I've seen...BUT....there is a tatoo shop on the street now isn't there???? That's where she might have gotten it then
