Coronation Street Episode Review Monday 18th July

I hope everyone's surviving Day 1 of Xtreme Heatwave. We can expect to see it on the t'cobbles in approx. 6 weeks time when Gemma will be shouting about chub rub, Gail will be checking in on Audrey to make sure she's drinking water, not gin and, with any luck, Adam will be wearing Speedos and not much else to work (and hopefully Dev won't).

KELLY - GARY - KIERON - ITV - CORONATION STREET

Kelly is still locked up in Weatherfield's dankest dungeon by someone from Scally Actors talent agency (Kieron). I do like how the "Gary kills Rick" storyline is still on-going. The evil deed was done over 3 years ago, but the repercussions are still taking place and I've enjoyed how it's not been forgotten but at the same time the storyline hasn't been so constant that you never want to see the actor or character again (*cough* Gemma and the quads *cough*). Anyhoo, Kieron makes Kelly send a text telling Gary she's OK, but she adds "tell my mum I'm OK", so Gary knows sommat's up. Kieron says he was Rotten Rick's business partner and Rick ripped him off, thus Kelly owes him.

Gen Z Kelly knows how to make a hands-free call but millennials Gary and Maria have gone out without their phones, so her subterfuge call doesn't go through. Kieron then discovers the phone and calls Gangsta Gazza, telling him he must give him £50K otherwise he'll never see Kelly again! Pretty sure Kelly has an iron-clad contract with ITV, tbh.

AGGIE - DEBBIE - ED - ITV - CORONATION STREET

I thought Our Lady of the Bistro, Dame Debra of Webster was a canny businesswoman? I know the transfer of deeds of the Bistro and Chariot hotel was more or less done at gunpoint, but I'd've thought that once the dust had settled, our Debs would have made sure the basics were in place. I know Leanne would probably just stick her nose in the air and start yelling if asked to deal with such boring details as health and safety, but surely the Chariot have some kind of competent business manager who'd be overseeing things? Anyway, Debbie hasn't got any professional indemnity insurance as Ray cancelled it and her cheque to the Baileys falls on deaf, erm, hands. Aggie says that she has already instructed Adam to sue Debbie Enterprises Inc. Poor Adam - as if he didn't have enough to do; he can't even go into the pub without someone seeking some pro-bono legal advice. Maybe it'll turn out that Aaron, as well as being a trainee mechanic, also completed the first year of a law degree and will be installed in the solicitors by next Wednesday?

Debbie's accountant tells her there's no more cash and there's only one way to avoid Ray's debts - declare bankruptcy (doesn't she still own the closed salon?). Ronnie acts as undercover spy and tries to find out how much the main Baileys will accept but Aggie won't bite.

WENDY - ABI - ITV - CORONATION STREET

Abi has to break it to Wendy Flamin' Crozier (WFC) that Deirdre died "years ago" and tells her she should go see Our Ken. Abi persuades Tracy to go to Roy's with her so WFC can go chat to Ken (Tracy was working in the florist, so not sure why she needed to be dragged away). Wendy apologises to Ken and it's all going swimmingly until Tracy returns and yells at WFC. Wasn't Tracy upstairs playing her tapes when all the Ken/Deirdre/WFC stuff was going on?

FRANK - DYLAN - SEAN - TODD - CORONATION STREET - ITV

Meanwhile, Damon from Brookside-slash-Frank and Dylan meet and don't get along. That's fine though isn't it? Do you have to like your partner's child? I mean, Dylan is quite annoying. But no, this is the first step to prove that Frank really is a bad boyfriend and George was right all along. However, Frank persuades Sean to go on holiday with him sans Dylan.

By the way, no-one has ever mentioned Frank's sexuality in George's bullying ordeal. I know today's woke Gen Z are all about the rainbows and kids can now safely come out whilst at school, but it was hardly the same in the eighties. Was Frank a bully to cover up his own insecurities about his sexual preference? Did he act tough/mean so that the other boys wouldn't notice any perceived effeminacy in his behaviour?

Oh and Ty and Fiz are off to couples therapy after Ty spent the night with Phil(l) (the two things are not related). Fiz not unreasonably wants Ty to get rid of his Alina tattoo; he says if he had a magic wand he'd get rid of it. There is a magic wand, it's called a laser.

Even getting tyrones tattoo wont get shot of it, it will just fade it and make it look like a bad bruise, he would need a skin graft

If Fiz thinks that it is so important that Tyrone gets rid of his Alina tattoo, then she should tell Phil the truth now and get an annulment!
