Corrie Comicals week ending 17 April 2020

He has not been seen for weeks and I thought we were going to find a body buried somewhere and there would be a murder mystery to solve.  But no.  Dirk lives and even got a name check from Jenny on Friday night.  "Ere y'are Dirk, ta love." said Jenny - out loud but no mention on the subtitles!

Thank you Mary for reminding us of the definition of liberty - from George Orwell.  Given some of the way people try to shut down discussions or will not hear a contrary view to theirs at present this is important.  Not in the slightest comical - hard at these times - but an important definition of freedom which I hope we all bear in mind.

Not having seen Imran and Toyah for some months re-watching Monday's episode this suddenly brought me up sharp.  Why would R'Toyota getting charged imperil their "plans"?  It was dropped in pretty casually - but what is going on - are they going for world domination?  A carbon free council?  And surely not children?  And picking up on the rumours from my friends at the Conversation Street podcast how well do they know Ray Crosby and any "plans" which he might have?  Or perhaps they are just planning a 60th birthday party for the Street.

And in contrast this did raise a laugh.  Steve, Leanne, Nick and Oliver have returned from hospital where Oliver's fit is apparently not important for this episode (I have a feeling it will be back) and so far Steve has not admitted that Summer (who is not good with children she said) was looking after Oliver when he actually suffered the febrile convulsion.  Seeing her heading towards them Steve (about as fit as me) tries to hotfoot it out of here!  Needless to say he gets a tongue lashing off of Leanne and Tracy when they discover that once again Emma was more important than Oliver with Nick weighing saying he is a better father to Oliver than Steve will ever be!

The B&B business is improving at the Rovers, although last night's guest was a very loud snorer - indeed he made the whole house shake and Johnny thinks that he needs to check if the pub has suffered subsidence!

For those not in the know Aadi has had a head transplant and has gone from being shaven headed to having a very full head of hair in his new incarnation.  And having been a goody goody in his previous visitation it seems he is now naughty as well eyeing up the bottle of vodka he is going to borrow for consumption at Amy's house warming do at Number One later in the day.

Centre of the screen is Liz - to her left is a newcomer, Scott and Sean is behind the bar.  Sean's gaydar is pinging like mad when he spies Scott (who is taking up a long term stay in the B&B much to Jenny's pleasure although Johnny seems to be avoiding him) but to no avail as the latter is soon buying drinks for Liz.  Does Liz need a toyboy?

Asha - I know you are only a teenager and are apparently a little lacking in the brainpower department so here is some useful advice.  If your phone is ringing and annoying you picking it up throwing it in a drawer is not going to stop the ringing.  Try turning the phone OFF.  I know that having the phone off is probably an alien concept to someone of your age - but they do all turn off and then they don't make any noises!

And I am really liking three episodes a week.  Even though it remains frantic with lots of kids shouting plus Leanne tearing strips off of Steve.  Please, please cut the pace, less frenetic and give us some thing to enjoy if you really must go back to six episodes a week to please the advertisers - but it must be possible to strike a balance and really tell stories and drop the shouting?  Although a good old fashioned cat fight would be good too!

I agree re Aadi, he was always painted as the sensible twin so this was a sudden about turn.
I dislike Leanne, always moaning and sniping.

When they want a personality transplant for "dramatic" purposes they nearly always recast - Tracy, Rosie Webster, Nick(y) Tilsley, Sarah-Lou...

Nick saying he's a 'better father'than Steve is laughable as we never see Nick spend time with Oliver and the only time he had an interest in the little boy was to justify manipulating Leanne to let David take the fall for Nick stealing Audrey's money claiming he didn't want to be 'away' from them.
Until now,Nick has paid little attention to Oliver and even then it's more about showing up Steve than being concerned about Oliver's welfare.

Whatever happened to Nick's brain injury? No one mentions it and he never goes for periodic checkups.
