What I like about Corrie right now

Though there are some things, that are bugging some fans (including me) at the moment, there is a lot that I do like about the show now. First off, there is Kylie '2.0', who seems to have grown more of a personality since her first appearance last year, Paula Lane who plays her proved herself a great actress in the live episode, so I'm sure we'll start to see more sides to Kylie as she settles down.

Some people won't like this one, but I actually like Tracy Barlow at the moment too, she seems to have been toned way down since Claire bashed her on the noggin. In the past few episodes she has been paired with gossip merchant Norris Cole, as they both discuss the latest gossip over the bar. Then there is Chesney, an under used character for many years who looks to be finally getting a storyline, it's good to see there's at least one good smart lad on the Street.

Characters like Rita, Audrey, Eileen and Julie all get much, much more screen time these days too. I've loved little character scenes such as Lloyd and Cheryl redecorating Streetcars, with Lloyd  doing his best to save the beloved chair.

My only suggestion for the show is there needs to be much more consistency, its happened a few times over the past year that a character has a totally different opinion than in the last episode - which wouldn't be so bad if we saw them change their mind (which I always presume happens off-screen), but it's just the way it seems to change without warning. Also, the number of 'big' storylines needs to be lowered, I love big dramatic events in Corrie, but they're getting way too common now.

I'm looking forward to seeing the Easter special episodes, Sylvie Cropper's entrance and Dennis Tanner's return too.

I'm really enjoying the show at the moment, as well. As I mentioned in comment to that other post, I can see all the flaws that are bugging others so much and understand why those flaws are so off-putting, but I'm actually feeling engaged by the show at the moment in a way I haven't in years. It's got me thinking about the characters and their situations instead of merely following ongoings with half an eye only.

Tracy has definitely improved since the overblown melodramatics of her return storyline, which was clearly designed to facilitate the high drama of Claire's exit and imo was a miscalculation on the part of the show as it damaged Tracy's credibility as a character so immensely. They have toned her down since and it has worked wonders for her. I enjoyed her part in the final stages of the big Peter-Leanne-Nick storyline - she works best in a story like that, working with characters she is connected to and dealing with issues she has a reason to be invested in. Plus Kate Ford raises her game in scenes with stronger actors. And her gossip-mongering pairing with Norris was a stroke of genius!

Great reply :D I feel the same way about the show as you, though I do understand why some people arent as happy with it.

I noticed a bit of Blanche in Tracy when she was gossiping with Norris :D I suppose we could put Tracy's behavior down to her being out of prison and free.

I'm looking forward to some new spring storylines also. Esp Roy Cropper's mother returning. We need a battleaxe!

Um Chewy......'it's good to see there's at least one good smart lad on the street'.....didn't you read about Chesney becoming a father soon and being happy about it...? Good maybe but smart........don't think so!.....isn't he 16 or 17 on the show? Would be nice to see him rise above his uprbringing and make something of himself.....Uni maybe?. I'm glad to see Julie getting more screen time....she is a gem....love her.

Chez can't go to Uni, he never took his GCSE's, I think Chez will be a good dad, he's got a good stall buisness and probably will eventually save up enough to rent a shop (I hear there is one going on Victoria Street ;))

My rationalisation for Tracy's behaviour in that first week she was back (other than being a sheer plot device for the whodunnit, obviously) was that she was overcompensating big time. She knew she had burned her bridges big time, that she was returning to area where no one liked her - and with good reason. She knew that her past sins were not something anyone was likely to forgive. So her behaviour could be viewed as a defence mechanism fuelled by self-loathing (or something of that ilk) - opting for attack as the best means of defence. After all, if atonement was out of the question, why even bother trying? And if she was only ever going to be seen as an evil cow and hated as such, why not give everyone something to truly hate her for, prove them right? The psychology works. But where the theory falls down is the execution on-screen, which was so focused on making sure Tracy alienated as many people as possible as fodder for the whodunnit that they completely forgot to include any semblance of motivation on Tracy's part, presenting her instead as a cartoon villain with no nuance at all. It was only later, once that storyline was over (poorly executed from first to last - she was in hospital a heck of a long time despite seeming to suffer no real damage) that they started to peel back a few layers and allow her to act more like a real person again.

Yay!! Someone who agrees with me.I don't know why everyone hates Tracy i'm quite liking her at the mo and i'm glad she came back.Kylie is brill too! way better than her sister.I see people are hating the whole Xin Storyline - It's not that bad, there's been worse storylines and by the sounds of it shes going to marry Graeham in a couple of weeks so it's going to finsh soon

The change in Tracy could be down to many things or with all the negative comments left when she was released we here on the blogs could have more power than we think :)))

The Xin storyline gave us last night's amazing Graham/Tina row, so I will forgive it anything.
