Peter and Carla - too much of a bumpy ride?

What do you reckon to Peter and Carla then?
Peter Barlow and Carla Connor are two of my favourite Coronation Street characters, but I'm not quite sure what to make of their burgeoning affair. They haven't actually "done anything" yet, but it's on the cards. Carla has been more than up front about how she feels, and I'd bet a wine gum to a bacon barm (I'm Scottish - I don't know what "barms" are, but I like the sound of them) that Peter fancies her back, something rotten. It's only a matter of time before they hit the booze and lurch into Carla's luxury king-size (I wonder if Trev the binman left a dent in the mattress?)
In a way, I think they are well-matched. Both score highly in the fiery personality as well as looks departments, so it's not going to be dull.
However, overall I do think it's a wee bit of a shame. Things were ticking along very nicely with Peter, Leanne, and Simon. I liked that little family. Poor little Simon.
(I'm not even going to MENTION the awfulness that is Leanne and Nick...)

I like that Peter is resisting Carla, I don't think he'll betray Leanne until he finds out

What is it with Corrie and stupid affairs...I thought they would of learned there lesson with Molly and Kevin, but no now we have the awfulness of Nick and Leanne, and Carla and Peter!!! CORRIE PLEASE LEARN FROM YOU MISTAKES!!!

I don't really like the idea of Peter/Carla, mainly because Peter/Leanne/Simon are such a nice family unit. I found it a bit cringy the way Carla came on to Peter like that. She supposed to be such a 'strong' female character, but she just looked so desperate trying to seduce a bloke who's already taken. And she already did this with Liam...!

For a change, i hope Peter can resist. Most affairs never do get resisted by the couple and obviously, with Peter's gene pool and Bigamist "I can't say no" past, he's going to have a tough time resisting. I really hope this time he can take the moral high ground. Leanne and Nick are so yesterday and so ick ick ick!

He's done well to resist so far. I'm a bit peeved they've made Carla out to be so desperate. Bad move Corrie.

It reminds me of how they made out that suddenly Kevin was mad about Molly, first Molly said no.....then she was like aw what the heck!!! I think its going to be the same with Carla and Peter. Leanne and Peter was meant to be so happy together, (like the way Molly and Tyrone where) Leanne and Peter where meant to be so in love that they both proposed to each other at different times. Leanne and Nick are soooo 1990's and Carla well we have seen this storyline before with Liam. It like the same storyline but different characters. The public didnt like the Molvin affair what makes the corrie officals think we are going to like two more affairs taking up screen time!!!

I always imagined Carla was deliberately made in the Elsie Tanner mould, but I'm sure we're all agreed that Elsie would never have done something like this! It also seems a bit out of character for Carla too. Not totally, but slightly.

I hope this affair storyline fades away quickly...

Carla seems to have formed the impression that since Leanne has surrendered the pink to Nick, that gives her a green light to move her relationship with Peter onto a carnal level. Clearly, she cannot say to to Peter that since his partner has now cheated on him by sleeping with her business partner and former husband, he really ought to embrace her in the very fullest of senses, but by gum she came close to that. At the very least, she's now laid her cards on the table in respect of Peter. But she hasn't considered Simon at all in doing so, which leads me to think that she won't succeed.

Carla makes a play for her bessie mate's boyfriend, who is 10 years older and runs a backstreet bookies. Meanwhile bessie mate sleeps with ex husband boss, who looks old enough to be her dad and who she rejected years ago. This is complete nonsense.

We have seen this all before. The truth comes out, drama ensues, relationships are broken, lives wrecked. Its a huge yawn.

Why can't Carla turn up with a really attractive, smart 21 year old toy boy who the factory girls (and Sean) all fancy like mad? That would be much more realistic and something different.

Why can't Corrie allow us to have just ONE long-lasting couple??

Sheesh, I was looking forward to Peter and Leanne being that couple.

Leanne was an idiot to succumb to Nick.

And Carla is a bitch.

We do have one long lasting couple. Roy and Hayley :)

I agree, the Leanne and Nick get-together is absolutely disastrous. As for Peter and Carla, Carla will never be the kind of person to care for a child, and Simon will never be the kind of child who will love Carla like he loves Leanne. Peter respected that. I can't understand how the writers will change him again to forget his pledge to be a good father.

:o) I stand corrected, Tvor. Indeed, we have Roy & Hayley.

Still ... the family of Peter/Simon/Leanne looked good. And as others have mentioned, Carla just isn't the mothering kind.

They're ruining Carla :'C

This story is absolute nonsense and not credible whatsoever. I dont like the way they are urniing feisty and independent Carla into a needy and clingy woman. Why on earth would she need Peter to hold her hand in Court? I agree they are ruining this character. She is taller than Peter as well although in the picture I think he is standing on a box. Is poor Simon to have his life turned upside down again???

Carla's fixating on Peter is actually believable in psychological terms. It's called Transference and frequently happens with patients thinking they've fallen in love with their psychotherapist - and in a sense, that is what Peter is being to her. It has nothing to do with how strong a woman Carla normally is; it's not real love, it's an illusion. It's often preceded by hostility and denial, which we also saw Carla go through. I'd be happy enough to let this line play out, so long as Peter resists. The Leanna/Nick strand is just repellent though. His behaviour is shockingly self-centred, and what the hell is she thinking?

Seapenguin, a barm cake is a soft white flattish roll, the kind nyou would find a burger in but without the sesame seeds - called a bap down South ;)

As for the affairs... I think it's just more drama to surround the tram crash personally. Did the earth move for you darling? Whoops no, but the ceiling did... cue rubble-covered compromising position. And isn't it supposed to start from an explosion in the factory... caused by a drunken Carla perhaps?

Thanks for the barm info. DeeDee. Sounds perfect for bacon, no wonder they're so popular at Roy's. I'm STARVING now!

I've always thought Nick and Carla would make quite an interesting couple, when Nick started working at the factory it certainly looked like the writers were going that way. But instead we get Leanne & Nick grossness and the unbelievable carla/peter. I hope something decent comes of these storylines and that little Simon isn't heartbroken again. 'Molvin' is horiffic enough.
Rant over.

I personally think Carla looks too old for Peter or indeed for Nick.
