Tony Warren's Corrie interview on Radio 4

Coronation Street creator Tony Warren speaks of how his childhood meeting with the actress Violet Carson, who went on to play Ena Sharples, provided him with the inspiration for the show. Speaking on the Radio 4 documentary, Ena, which will be broadcast on Thursday 10th September at 11.30am, Warren recalls Violet Carson's audition for the role: "I asked endless, endless questions and in the end Vi said: 'If that boy doesn't belt up I will smack his bottom'."

In portraying the hair-netted Ena Sharples, Violet Carson went on to play one of the most memorable characters in the history of Coronation Street. She left the show after 20 years due to ill health and died, aged 85, in 1983.

I would love to hear this... but can find the hotlink to press on the BBC site. Or did I have to listen in "real" time?

I think you'll have to listen in real time and then via the podcast later on the radio 4 website.
