I've just finished reading Jean Alexander's 1989 autobiography 'The Other Side of The Street' and although she doesn't give much away about herself as a person, it is an interesting read and there's some great Coronation Street snippets.
One thing, of many, worth blogging is that there was once a British League for Hilda Ogden with the five founding members being Laurence Olivier (President), Willis Hall (Treasurer), Sir John Betjeman (Chairman), Michael Parkinson (Recruiting Officer) and Russell Harty (Secretary).
They felt that Hilda Ogden deserved proper recognition as a national monument. An inaugural party was held at the Garrick Club in London and five thousand tin badges were printed. Does anyone know if the BLHO still exists in any format, either online or off? Do you have one of these badges? Anyway, I heartily recommend Jean's book which you can still pick up on eBay and Amazon.
