The broadcast of Coronation Street's first episode was 50 years ago, on 9 December 1960. To pay tribute to this watershed moment, Radio Times has secured the only major magazine interview with creator Tony Warren (conducted by Guardian journo Gareth Mclean), an exclusive “Secret Diary of Gail” that charts the history of the Street (written by Coronation Street scriptwriter Jonathan Harvey) and 12 different covers of Coronation Street’s iconic female characters, from Elsie Tanner and Ena Sharples to Becky McDonald and Tina McIntyre.

Will this be the first ever edition of Radio Times with an ITV programme on it? Back when restrictions were lifted and listings magazines could carry information for all channels, RT's policy was to always have a BBC programme-related front cover, but I am not sure if this rule has previously been relaxed, or if this is the first time?
No, they've had Corrie on the cover before.
Nice to see a rare picture of Gail smiling and its nice to see the happy go lucky young girl she once was.
Couldn't the picture editor at RT have been a little more subtle than to plaster a logo right across the main feature (i.e. Helen Worth)? I have searched high and low for the original image, but to no avail. Can anyone help me?
