Jack's funeral music

Oh god, I am so emotional about Jack's funeral. I cried when he died, I thought they were some of the best scenes I've seen on Corrie in a while.

Some of my earliest Corrie memories are of Jack standing in the Rovers, and it really feels like the end of an era to me that he's gone.

The entrance music for the funeral set me off crying. It was Father and Son by Cat Stevens.

The few seconds of hymn that we heard was Abide With Me. It is often sung at funerals.

Lovely touch that Jim MacDonald triggered off the applause that saw the hearse carrying Jack's coffin leaving the street. Genuinely touching moment.

What beautiful scenes at Jack's funeral last night. I thought Alan Halsall was terrific as Tyrone - some of the best scenes he's ever played in my opinion. Nice to see Kevin supporting Tyrone. I could slap that Molly though.

I also thought Alan Halsall was great. Very well done indeed.

I agree that Jim's applause was a lovely touch.

'Father and Son' a great funeral song. 'How Can I Tell You I Love You' is another. For a huge selection of suitable funeral songs go to the My Last Song website and look in the Music section. Someone has just put up a load of brilliant and moving Neil Diamond farewell songs.

Applause is to show appreciation for some kind of performance, not for coffins. Silent respect and reflection is correct, not behaving as if the end of a life is the same as the finish of the local school play or a politician's speech.

Jim's applause was a jarring note in what was otherwise a moving episode. Alan Halsall was excellent.

I'm still yet to catch up with the funeral but I know I will be in tears.

Not only will I be sad at Jack's death, but Father and Son is the song on my Mum & Dad's wedding video - because my Mum died before the video had been made - so I know I am going to be welling up :(

Sorry, but I have to disagree with the anonymous comments about the innappropriateness of applause in connection with funeral obsequies.

The Coronation Street applause at Jack's funeral was entirely appropriate, and fully justified. Who writes the rules on these things anyway? Nobody, that's who.

At football matches in Italy, for example, the established tradition is to hold a minute's applause before matches kick off to recognise the passing on of prominent figures in the game - rather than a minute's silence.

A short period of silence can be incredibly moving, but so too can applause. For example, whilst two minute's applause at the cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday would be utterly innappropriate, it was just terrific for seeing Jack off from the street.

..applause at the cenotaph would be utterly inappropriate....

Funerals are not football matches and it is entirely inappropriate to applaud a coffin.
