We'd better buckle our seatbelts, it's going to be a rather nasty ride.

Samia Smith and Maria's Corrie baby story
I'm sure I wasn't the only one with a lump in my throat watching Maria deliver her dead baby on Coronation Street this week. It was heartbreaking to watch, and contrasted horribly well with Liam and Carla, carefree and drinking in the Rovers. It can't have been easy for Samia Smith to act out those scenes either, as she was using personal experience gained from her own mum.
To be honest, Maria's never been a favourite Corrie character of mine, I've always seen her as a bit of decorative fluff on the Street, and rather needy. But she's going to need all the strength she can muster to carry her through the next few months, what with losing the baby, arranging the funeral and then losing her feckless husband to Cruella Carla's talons too.

Corrie's never shied away from hard stories. And it isn't the first time they've had a baby die, Zoe's baby was the earliest one i remember. most shows won't have children and babies die so it's quite brave of them to do this. Having it happen to the "fluff" Maria is, hopefully, going to show how Maria really grows up and how it changes her. Because if it doesn't, *then* i'd have a problem with it. Apparently it will be the wedge that splits them up eventually and that's also realistic, especially since she thinks he only married her because of the baby in the first place.
I am in Nova Scotia, CANADA and We haven't gotten to this point of the story yet.
Reading what's going to happen on Coronation Street doesn't at all affect the watching Corrie. The actor-Charactors, bring it all together, even knowing what will happen next.
P.S - I am available to comfort Liam anytime. :)
