Video: See what's behind the scenes

There's a great bit of video that ITV has released tonight in the wake of a top notch double Coronation Street where we saw Phelan take that fateful step across the line in the sand. Connor McIntyre, Oliver Farnworth and Ian Kelsey are on the set and have some interesting things to say about the storyline and each other! I know I had chills watching it. Top marks to all three men, the writer and director of both episodes tonight, Owen Lloyd-Fox and Duncan Foster respectively.

See our Interview with Connor McIntyre.

57 years of Corrie firsts

ITV released this great little video today on Twitter featuring some of the many "firsts" we saw on Coronation Street including the first:  death, birth,  wedding, first landlady, trip to Blackpool, live anniversary episode, and first colour episode. A few little clips I've not seen before and it's viewable outside the UK!

New to Corrie? "Jump in there and get on with it!"

CBC in Canada has a great Facebook page for Coronation Street, called, naturally, Coronation Street on CBC.  Today they posted this great little video where their "Corrie"spondent, Mike Morrison, interviewed some of the cast to find out tips for people who are new viewers of Coronation Street. The best advice comes from William Roache, "Jump in there and get on with it".

Most people I know say the accent is the hardest thing to get past, at least at first. It's a stronger accent than the "received" BBC posh English accent, that's for sure in that it's more down to earth and every-day, if you see what I mean. It does take a bit of time to pick up the ear for it but if you watch for a few weeks, you will become attuned. I have to say, though, after watching for over 25 years, there are still times when I don't catch what was said, usually just a word or a phrase that was spoken too quickly.

Because the show has been on the air going on 56 years, you won't be able to catch up before starting to watch. Like any show, you will pick up the threads of the storylines and figure out the families before too long. There are also great books out there if you do want to read up on Corrie history, most of which are written by Daran Little, with two or three gems by our very own Glenda Young (Deirdre: A Life on Coronation Street and Norman Bates with a Briefcase: The Story of Richard Hillman just to name two) . Check out your library! Then pour yourself a cup of tea and get some dunkable biscuits and jump in!

Faye's Pregnancy Woes in Lego

Here's a wonderful little gem by a Youtube user "Yeh It's Jack" that depicts Faye Windass's recent discovery that she's pregnant but it's all done in Lego! It's inventive and detailed and a lot of fun! Well done!

Coronation Street autumn spoilers on video

ITV have released video with spoilers and previews of upcoming storylines over the next month or so. We start off with Rob and Tracy's wedding falling apart, Rob doing a runner quite literally. We get hints of the fallout but it doesn't give away if Rob is caught or not or how.

We meet Michael's son Gavin and from the little we see here, it seems like he might be a bit grasping. I get a bad feeling about this! Kylie's involvement with Callum continues, as well. It all looks quite exciting!

Here's a YouTube version that non-UK people can view.

Goodbye Granada from the production crew

A link to a wonderful video just scrolled past on our twitter feed. It was uploaded to Vimeo by Matt Hilton @quarterbluematt who is a 3rd Assistant Director at Coronation Street.

It's a goodbye to Granada studios from all the production crew and behind the scenes faces that we never see. These men and women are the backbones of Corrie, wiithout whom we couldn't enjoy Coronation Street as we do. It's just as big a change for all of them moving to the new Media City site as it is for the actors!

Watch the excellet video here:

And since today is the final day of filming on the old set, the Manchester Evening News also has a feature. They include lots of links to various articles they've had featuring photos and video and other related items. This one in particular has loads of links all in one place.

We don't know what the first day filming on the new location will be yet, but we'll be watching closely to spot the differences, including the second Rovers window and the external door to Roy and Hayley's flat outside the cafe!

Video: Marc Baylis plays Stanley Kowalski

Here's one last bit of fun from the Evening with Marc Baylis last night.   See our full write-up of Marc's visit here and read our exclusive interview with him here.

During one conversation, Marc admitted he'd like to portray the Stanley Kowalski character from A Streetcar Named Desire. Dawn told him that he should try the classic "STELLA!!!!" line on set.

Here's a clip of that conversation:

Video: Corrie trivia countdown

There's a great video on the Winnipeg Free Press TV site that counts down the top ten Corrie trivia things you should know about the show. It's good and you might enjoy it. You will even see a clip of Ken Barlow jumping up and down (when he was young, that is!)

Bits of trivia include the date the show first aired - which was 52 years ago to this very day - William Roache's long term on the show, Corrie breaking controversial stories like Hayley's and Todd's, and there's a few sections on all time favourite characters like Hilda Ogden and Elsie Tanner. Hugo award for Doctor Who with a Corrie connection

Earlier this month the Sci-Fi Hugo awards were given out and an episode of Doctor Who called The Doctor's Wife won an award. That's relevant to Coronation Street because the episode featured ex-Corrie star Suranne Jones as the human embodiment of the TARDIS. It was a wonderful episode, written by the acclaimed Neil Gaiman. Suranne was fabulous in the part. Watch below for the scene where the Doctor realizes who she is.

If you have the DVD for Season 6, it's episode 4.
On YouTube you can find the "behind the scenes" Doctor Who Confidential for this episode with part 1 here with the rest of the parts linked down the right.

Video flashback: Another creature, another bad back

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the fact that Coronation Street's rat in the pub storyline is pretty much a repeat of a storyline from 20 years ago. Most of you out there are pretty sharp at spotting second hand storylines and there were several elements of that in Friday night's story about Daryl the escaped rat.

20 years ago, Alec Gilroy had a big hairy spider that was going to bring the punters in and he'd charge them a pound or two to see it, sort of like a zoo exhibit. It was Boris, the Mexican Mouse-eating Spider. But, it escaped and went missing for an episode or two. And guess what? The kitchen had just been redone and the inspector was due to call to check it over before signing off on it.

You won't be surprised, then, to learn that Boris showed up in the kitchen while the inspector was there and Alec had to pretend to have a bad back while trapping the spider behind him, pretty much what Sunita did at one point with the rat. Poor Basil came to a sticky end when Alec had to squash it. It's the scene that I always pick as my favourite "funniest scene" and I always thought it knocked the spots off that dreadful scene with Reg and Maureen and the waterbed. But maybe that's just my sense of humour.

With that in mind, here's a YouTube of the antics, though if big, hairy spiders creep you out, you might not want to watch!

Classic Corrie - Betty and Alec in bed together

In last night's episode we were reminded by Rita about that golden Corrie moment when Alec Gilroy and Betty landed in bed together back in 1998. The scenario was that Betty's house was being decorated and because she couldn't stand the fumes, Rita offered her a bed for the night as Alec was away in London. Rita slept in Alec's bed while Betty slept in Rita's bed. But, Alec came home that night and crawled into Rita's bed thinking they could have a rendezvous. Alec was horrified it was Betty who was under the duvet!

Relive this classic moment by watching the video and let's remind ourselves of the great, late Betty who was indeed one of Corrie's greats. The classic moment starts 6.36 minutes in :)
