While Fiz is away, Sean becomes a domestic goddess and looks after Tyrone and the kids. It’s a nice match and a story I’m enjoying and I wonder why we never saw Sean and Norris chez nous in this way.  Tyrone offers to take Sean out for tea to say thank you. But he takes him out on Valentine’s night, to a swanky restaurant and the waiter thinks they’re a couple. Not only that, they have their photograph taken, much to Sean’s horror as he’s eyeing up the waiter, and the photo goes viral on the restaurant’s social media feed. 

Craig’s OCD spirals out of control this week and he loses out on a date with Bethany as he can’t leave the house. He’s back and forth counting knives, clicks on the oven, straightening things, turning electric sockets on and off, it’s awful to watch. He’s in a real state and I think everyone except those with a glass heart will be sympathising with him. 

Eva lies to Adam and tells him she’s moving away to do a beauty course. She’s not, she just wants to get away somewhere quiet to have the baby she’ll give to Toyah on her return. But Adam won’t let Eva go and he says he’ll go with her so Eva has to pretend she doesn’t like him and dumps him. Then she changes her mind, marches round to his flat to tell him the truth only to find him in bed with some woman he’s met on Weatherfield’s WhamBam app.   

Bethany gets sacked from Tassels when they find out that she’s underage. She sets her mum up on a date with Aidan Connor in the Bistro on Valentine’s night but Sarah says there wasn’t any spark between her and Aidan and she won’t be seeing him again.

Phelan’s problems look set to escalate - and about time too. He’s told that they’ll be building even more houses at The Mill site he and Gary are working on. The only thing is, the lake needs to be drained on the site – the same lake where Andy and Vinny’s bodies are buried.  Oh dear!

Billy the vicar goes through cold turkey in an effort to get off his addiction to painkillers that Adam Barlow has started.  There’s no support from those who Billy works with, not even from the GP, just Eva and her camomile tea.  I’m not buying this storyline at all, I’m afraid.  It’s all having an effect on Summer of course, she’s not coping well at school and after she misses the school bus she’s approached by a kerb crawler before Pat Phelan turns up and scares him off.

Speaking of GPs, a new trainee turns up at the medical centre and it’s a young man called Ali who turns out to be Michelle Connor’s son, the one that’s not Ryan.  Ryan, you’ll remember, was the son she brought up as her own and Alex (now Ali) is the one who is her biological son. He’s come back with an attitude about him that fair upsets Michelle.   

There was a lovely little scene this week between Bethany and Gail, on Valentine’s Day. Bethany asked her grandma which of her dead husbands she liked the best. Gail waxed lyrical about Brian’s nice hair and smile and she also got a mention of Susie Birchall in there too. A nice touch.

And finally this week from her hospital bed, Don Carla-eone summons people to her bedside and dispenses wisdom to Daniel: “Sinead still loves you.” She gives a gift of a red basque and knickers to Sinead: “Seduce him.” And then she dismisses Michelle and Robert who bring news of their engagement: “Go away, you’re boring me now.”  I loved all of this. More please.  And when I say more, I don't mean more hospital scenes. I mean more wonderful Carla lines.

Starting with the big story of the week, Pat Phelan shot and killed Andy Carver after forcing Andy to shoot Vinny Ashford in a deserted paper mill. He then bundled up the two dead bodies and threw them in the river.  It was dramatic, that was for sure. Whether it was the Coronation Street we all know and love is another matter altogether. If only there had been some humour, some light, to play against the dark and the death. If only. Light and shade, humour and drama is what Corrie all about but this week it lost its funny bone.  

Seb fell from a ladder and ended up in th’ospickle with a bleed on the brain.  Phelan then goes and puts one of Anna’s ear-rings inside Barlow and Grimshaw solicitor’s office beside the window from which Seb fell, intent of framing Anna for Seb’s accident.  Phelan’s not best pleased with Anna after she told Nicola about her dad’s real past. Wanting to know more, Nicola went to visit her mum’s old friend Lydia who revealed the horrid truth that Phelan had raped Nicola’s mum. Armed with this news, Nicola confronted her dad and told him he was dead to her.  

Mary’s turned into the mother in law from hell as her jealousy over her son’s wife and child gets the better of her. Mary’s always had a nasty streak, it’s just lain dormant for a while but it has now reappeared in a very nasty way.

On a lighter note (thankfully) this week, Steve and comedy Dev have a bit of a moment in the corner shop where Steve was trying to get his step count up on his fit bit by power walking up and down the biscuit aisle. Speaking of which, Steve wants a fit bit for himself and moans to Dev that he hasn’t had a date in ages. Dev and Gina set Steve up on a blind date, but it’s Moira (or Moo-ra as Steve calls her) who turns up. Suffice to say, this isn’t a date that’s likely to be repeated any time soon. But after the date, Tracy and Steve shared a bit of a moment… could it be a hint at them getting back together?

Also this week, Aidan leans in for a kiss from Alya as the two of them grow close working together on a special project while Underworld stays shut.  Speaking of which, a cheque arrives for Fiz and Tyrone for two thousand pounds, from a woman who’s been moved reading Hope’s cancer story on the crowd funding page. Fiz and Tyrone are torn – but not for long – over what to do with the cheque. Do they keep it or share it with their work colleagues, as that was the whole reason for setting up the crowd funding page in the first page. Well, they’re keeping it for now.  

And finally this week, Craig gets a new mentor at work but young PC Tinker looks set to be developing some form of obsessive behaviour after the trauma of what he went through with his last mentor, evil Neil.

Video: See what's behind the scenes

There's a great bit of video that ITV has released tonight in the wake of a top notch double Coronation Street where we saw Phelan take that fateful step across the line in the sand. Connor McIntyre, Oliver Farnworth and Ian Kelsey are on the set and have some interesting things to say about the storyline and each other! I know I had chills watching it. Top marks to all three men, the writer and director of both episodes tonight, Owen Lloyd-Fox and Duncan Foster respectively.

Corrie weekly update - Buzzer Bee and a Caesar Salad

Weatherfield County football team announce a new mascot called Buzzer the Bee. Tim applies for the job but it’s Kirk who gets picked. And when a reporter from the local paper comes to interview Kirk, she suggests he goes one further and stand against Sally for Mayor. Kirk? Mayor? It just might work!

In the cellar of the big house, Phelan keeps Andy tied up to the wall. Eileen comes calling to find out where Pat is, and what does Andy do, when he hears Eileen above? Does he call out and run? No, my friends, he does not. He stays put and quiet while we’re yelling at our tellies for him to scream and scarper.  Pat takes photos of Andy, telling him he’s going to get a passport to smuggle him out to France. But when the photos come spilling out of Phelan’s bag in the builder’s yard, Nicola wants to know who the strange, bearded man is. Phelan stuffs the photos back in his bag before Eileen can recognise the man that Nicola didn’t.  Andy’s arm gets infected and Phelan lies to the doc to get antibiotics for him, saying he’s got an infected gum.  Liz, still not used to working behind a counter instead of a bar, takes it upon herself to spread the gossip to Eileen that Phelan’s been into the medical centre and he’s ill and on pills.

Summer and Amy’s friendship continues its rocky way after Summer agrees to dye Amy’s hair – with bleach from Dev’s corner shop. It goes orange, and Amy is marched home by Tracy in a bad mood.  “My mum will kill me!” Amy rages when she sees the colour of her hair, to which Summer quickly replied: “With most teenagers, when they say, that they’re exaggerating but…”  Great stuff indeed from writer Joe Turner that made me chuckle a lot.

Meanwhile, on a night out for Rana and Kate, they meet Imogen who Kate lusts after. Rana’s fair put out and there’s more to her displeasure than just being a third wheel on a lesbian date.  She’s got feelings for Kate herself, but is keeping them to herself for now, although we all know, of course.

Over at the Bistro, Will plants drugs in the first aid box and calls the cops who arrive with their sniffer dog. Michelle chucks the tablets into the curry and the cops go away empty handed.  But Will’s got another plan to bring Robert down and make Michelle his own.  Michelle reckons that drug dealer Rich planted the drugs in the Bistro and storms off to his house to give him hell.  Will calls the cops again and tells them it’s all kicking off at Rich’s house where Robert is taken away for breach of the peace, or summat. To be honest, I’m done with this storyline, I hope they take Robert away and never bring him back. Michelle deserves better and Kym Marsh deserves a better storyline. From the drama and heartbreak of baby Ruari to this?  Come on, Corrie, give the girl a break, she’s worth so much more. Get her away from Robert and put a smile on her face.

And finally this week, concerned about Rita’s memory loss, Gemma makes her an appointment to see the doctor. Now, this upsets Rita even further because she can’t remember making the appointment. And although Gemma meant well, it backfires on her when Rita finds out that the appointment was made without her consent and she cancels. Rita tells Norris and Gemma that her memory loss is being caused as a side-effect of blood pressure tablets she’s just started to take, but there’s worse to come next week, I’m afraid when the truth is revealed.  And proving that she can still act her socks off (if proof were needed) Barbara Knox had me in tears this week when she admitted to Norris in The Kabin that yes, she was having ‘senior moments’.

Corrie weekly update - In it to Win it

After Sally’s sister Gina gets some bad news that her husband Donny wants a divorce she consoles herself with a spending spree using Tim’s tablet. When a memorial plate with a rare otterhound on it comes through the post, Gina’s delighted with her purchase. Less thrilled is Sally to have the piece of tat in her house and Tim’s not best pleased that Gina’s used all his data on the tablet.

Eileen finds Phelan’s love letters to Nicola’s mum and has a sneaky read. Well, you would, wouldn’t you? She’s sure that Phelan’s up to summat but she’s not sure what, just yet.

Over at the Bistro, Robert’s drug dealing mate Rich stabs Chesney with a broken bottle. Ches is carted off to hospital where he survives and is tended to at his bedside by the hand of fair maidens. And lo, their names were Sinead and Gemma. He survives, of course. As does Robert and Michelle’s relationship after Robert dobs Rich to the cops and gets him arrested for dealing cocaine. However, if Robert thinks that Rich will leave him alone now, he’s got another thing coming after a sinister, silent phone call comes through on Robert’s phone.

Eva continues her plan of revenge against Aidan for sleeping with Maria. But I’d have more respect for her if she just threw him and his nasty shirts out on the street.  She buys a massive pink Range Rover on his credit card along with a new telly and lots of things she doesn’t want or need.

There were some wonderful scenes this week from Mary – as always – who was cuddling up to and flirting with Adam. These scenes make my heart burst with joy, Mary is wonderful and to see her with Adam is comedy gold.  Adam however, has more on his mind in the florist shop than flirting over flowers. He nicks Tracy’s paperwork and she ends up being a guarantor for his new legal practice (is it on Victoria Street? Anyone know?). He enters into the business with Todd, the two of them working together like a cut-price Bodie and Doyle.

When Billy and Todd gatecrash Drew’s funeral, after they’d been told not to attend by Drew’s parents, Summer becomes Todd and Adam’s first customer at their new legal practice. She wants to sue the NHS for not looking after her dad. Todd recognizes her grief and talks to her in the guise of someone willing to take on her case, knowing that all the lost, little girl wants to do is talk to someone who cares.  Billy and Todd also take up Tracy’s offer of moving into the flat above the flower shop and they go for a look around. Toyah and Peter will soon be moving out of there when they take on the Rovers.

Johnny finally comes clean to Jenny about his MS diagnosis after she goes on a date with Matthew Singh and she thinks he’s having it away with Liz McDonald in the back room. The two love birds finally kiss and make up, and about time too. The wedding of the year is back on.

Over at the Platt house, there’s bad news when the cops say they can’t take Nathan’s case any further and he won’t be prosecuted. They blame lack of evidence but Bethany blames herself for not telling the whole truth about bent copper Neil.

And finally this week, Kev and Anna are invited to Dev and Erica’s house for a curry. Anna says she can’t go, feeling fat and frumpy next to Erica, so Kevin goes alone. And when Dev’s called away leaving Kev and Erica alone on Dev’s sofa, the two of them snog on the soft furnishings.

And that’s just about that for this week.
