What’s Daniel and Max’s relationship like at the moment?
Max and Daniel have had nothing to do with each other since it all blew up about all of the lies that Max was spreading about Daniel and Summer. Daniel has watched from afar as Max has continued to be self-destructive but he still feels partly responsible because he did things to Max that he shouldn’t have done and he lied about them.
As Daniel’s lesson draws to a close, Max slips the phone back onto Daniel’s desk. At No.1, Daniel scrolls through his phone and finds Max’s video diary. What’s going through Daniel’s mind when he watches Max’s video for the first time?
Daniel sees that suddenly this person, who was so set out to destroy him, is now in such a weak and vulnerable position and it’s quietly tragic.
Why does Daniel decide to help Max after everything that he has put Daniel through? Does Daniel realise how hard this will be and is he cut out for it?
Daniel feels partly to blame for Max’s downward spiral; Daniel pushed Max down the stairs and he lied about it. I don’t think Daniel has quite grasped just how difficult it will be but I think he is definitely cut out for it because his personal mission in his life is to be of use as an educator and I think when he sees Max in the state that he’s in, it’s killing two birds with one stone; Daniel gets to redeem himself for what he did to Max in the past and he also gets to help someone turn his life around which is what Daniel wants to do.
What are Daniel's thoughts towards David? Is there forgiveness there?
Daniel is much more understanding of David’s predicament with Max and because Daniel is a dad himself, he looks at it like, “Well I don’t know what Bertie is going to be like so it could be me in this situation one day.” When Daniel speaks to Max, he always says “The reason I am doing this is because your dad is worried about you.”
Daniel decides to communicate with Max in the only way that he knows best, which is recording a video journal. Tell us how that idea comes about.
Max won’t talk to Daniel in the class so Daniel knows he needs to find a way of getting through to him. Max does the first video so Daniel takes the cue from Max and reciprocates it that way. Daniel doesn’t think that Daisy’s spare phone is in use so he takes it to give to Max, thinking that it won’t be a problem.
What’s Daniel’s reaction when Daisy demands her spare phone back?
Daniel is really confused because he’s not sure what the issue is. Daniel thinks that Daisy is overreacting and he thinks she is reacting this way because she is concerned for him because he shouldn’t be giving a phone to Max and it’s against the rules. Daniel is not aware that there is an ulterior reason for the way that Daisy is reacting.
How does Daniel feel about how much time Daisy is spending helping Ryan?
Daniel is naturally going to be jealous, like anyone in that situation. He feels very confident and comfortable in his relationship and Daisy does make him feel secure in the relationship but at the same time he knows that Ryan and Daisy were once an item, albeit briefly, and so there is always that worry that she might think that the grass is greener and jump ship.
Feeling desperately ill, Ryan calls “Crystal” and leaves a message on Daisy’s spare phone. Max listens with concern, knowing Ryan is in danger. What would Daniel’s reaction be if Max was to tell him about Ryan’s voice message?
Initially Daniel would be concerned for Ryan but then immediately afterwards Daniel would begin to think, “Why is Daisy Ryan’s first port of call for this?” You go to your significant other for things like this so Daniel would start to think that Ryan and Daisy may be too close. His suspicions would grow and his jealousy would become harder to ignore.
Daisy and Daniel’s wedding didn’t go ahead and the court case with Justin is looming. If Daniel found out about Daisy’s double life as “Crystal”, how would this affect their relationship?
If Daniel had been in on it from the beginning, he would have felt included and he would be clear on what Daisy’s intentions are. But if he finds out now, he is going to be very suspicious and it’s going to change the dynamic of their whole relationship. It’s going to make Daniel think that maybe he has to compete more against Ryan for Daisy’s attention. It could be relationship-ending.
Have you enjoyed how Daniel, Max and David’s relationship has changed?
Yes, it’s been interesting as they have had loads of ups and downs. Their relationship is at a point now where David and Daniel respect each other as dads so it’s nice now that they have a mutual respect for each other. It was fun to play the rivalry between them but you can't play that indefinitely; eventually relationships do have to either break down or get better and in this case their relationship has got better.
What’s it like working with Paddy Bever and Jack P Shepherd?
It’s great, they are both an absolute hoot. We just have a laugh constantly and sometimes lose our place in the scene! So it’s a lot of fun and they are both very good actors who are very easy to work with.
