Coronation Street Episode Review Monday 10th August

I said last week that I liked the Gary the Gangsta storyline and everyone in the comments....disagreed. I agree that he's not a classic baddie like Richard Hillman or John Stape, but I like the fact he was already an established character, and not just brought in (like Phelan) to be this year's Big Bad. I also like that he is conflicted about his role as Bad Guy, wanting to do good but being drawn time and time again to the dark side to cover his tracks. Also, lest we forget, when the Windasses were first introduced, they were the "most feared family in Weatherfield". Ok, they were softened up pretty quickly, but they were nasty pieces of work. Gary returning to that is an interesting choice.

Anyway, Bernie, who is the weak link in all of this, tells Adam that the watch had "To Rick From Laura" inscribed on it (I still don't understand why Sarah bought the watch?) and it was found in Beacon Woods. Slimfast Craig brings Sarah's handbag from last week's ambulance, including the watch, which Adam finds. Surely he's worked it out by now!!? He's the finest legal brain in Weatherfield (apart from Imran).

Talking of Imran, he and Toyah are forging ahead with the fostering. They make time though to hear Alya's thoughts on Speed Daal and Geoff. She wants to keep her distance (not just 1 metre) and says she wants to sell her share of the restaurant. Doesn't she want to keep it in the family for when Yasmeen gets out? She visits her gran in hospital and Yasmeen says she feels safer in there, away from Geoff and she doesn't want a new trial. Alya fills in Sally and her Aunty in law (?) suggests that she should buy Geoff out and she will give her the money that Geoff stole from Speed Daal and gave to Tim for the wedding.

In the comedy storyline, Steve can't get a sausage in the cafe, as the suppliers haven't delivered and Nina offers him a veggie breakfast instead. "I'm not one of those trendy hipster types!" yells Steve. A veggie breakfast is only £2.95, Stevie-boy; if Roy's really was a hipster place, it'd be £10.95, mate! Steve visits (the newly en-bearded) Dev's to try to get an all day breaky sarnie, but they've sold out. Does no-one have cornflakes at home for breakfast? Steve goes full Piers Morgan, saying that the vegan conspiracy won't beat him and he buys some sausys from Dev's and takes them to the cafe to cook them. Does he not have a grill at home?

In the other comedy storyline, a half-naked Chesney walks in on Gemma's vlog recording. Corrie, please stop trying to make sexy Chesney happen, it's not going to happen.

Oh and there was something about Kirk wearing his Buzzer the Bee costume for Gary's socially distanced stag do. In this heat!?

Coronation Street Episode Review Friday 7 September 7.30pm

We start tonight with the delightful sight of Toyah wandering down Coronation Street in her pyjamas. No, she hasn’t taken her boho look to a whole new level, she’s just managed to lock herself out of hers and Leanne’s mystery new home. After some light ribbing from Simon and Imran (but we all know where that’s going to lead), Peter offers her a bag of Tracey’s old clothes which were destined for the charity shop.  While she’s changing he finds time to whip her up a vegan lunchbox and enclose a good luck note. My, my Mr Barlow when did you become a grown-up?

Dev, Tim, Kirk and a reluctant Eileen are planning Steve’s stag. Stag do’s have changed quite considerably in the 21st century, nowadays it’s all kayaking in Iceland or exploring the cultural delights of Andalusia. Clearly none of this enlightenment has reached Weatherfield as the stags have gone for the full on 1970’s experience which means handcuffing Steve to the bar, daft t-shirts and men in bras. As yet no dwarfs are involved but the night is still young.

Over at number 9 Tyrone is still struggling to deal with the discovery of his ‘abduction’ by Jackie. How did it affect his real mother, he wonders? Is she still looking for him? Fizz suggests they turn to Roy for help in tracking her down and Roy does indeed have a plan – looking through 35-year-old newspapers for any report of a stolen child. Before long Brian in is recruited too (despite being mildly disappointed that it’s not an alien abduction). With Cropper and Packham on the case how can they fail!

Meanwhile Bethany spots Billy giving homeless Frank some money and immediately jumps to the conclusion that he’s using drugs again.  Clearly having nothing else better to do, she decides to turn detective and follow him. Good try Miss Platt but you’re no Cropper and Packham. She of course finds the vicar at the hospital giving Josh a bible reading and bursts in accusing Billy of betraying David.

Back at the Rovers Steve is still handcuffed to the bar, waiting for Peter to bring the key when who should walk in but Jim McDonald – back from the Big House.

He greets them with a familiar: ‘What about you Steven. Elizabeth’. And then we’re left to catch ourselves on until 8.30…

Coronation Street episode review, Weds 16 May, 8.30pm

The aftermath of Aidan's death is still causing people to struggle on the street. I love the fact that the grief feels incredibly raw and real. Johnny, in particular is taking it badly, exploring how an older male really needs to talk, now he is suffering.

Sinead and Daniel are still dating, lord knows why but they continue to tiptoe through the tulips. Methinks, there may be trouble ahead.

What do you do if you find a will you are not happy with? Go and meet dodgy Adam Barlow who says: "I'm not sure this is ethical." Hardly stopped him before, has it?

Shona snoops around at the garage trying to find something on Josh. Meanwhile, Johnny explains to Liz how he is suffocating. He goes over the suicide note and the planning thst must have taken place. He is gutted and you can see why, because you feel as if your eyes have been closed, that you have been self centred. And this will totally help viewers who have gone through/are going through the same thing. Bravo Corrie!

Yasmeen is asked out amother date and used this to tell Zeedan that It's out with the old and is with the new, as he is still holding a candle for Rana.

Kate meets Sophie in the Rover's and Soph goes over the contents of the text thst Aidan sent her. They both talk about the fact that they would go back in time and change things of they could. Everyone is desperate for a clue, as suicide leaves you with questions and very few answers.

Summer focuses on positive steps so that she can try to prevent something like this from happening again. Shona visits Josh's old place of work and smells a rat when the guy who owns the place says he has nothing to say about him. The guy, Dec calls him "fake" and was either raped by him or deceived. Johnny walks in as Jenny praises Summer's plan and gets angry. He really needs help.

Kate speaks to Sophie and she cannot deal with the fact that there were no deep and meaningful talks, before he died. Old school Corrie scenes take place with Flora and her pals in the Rovers, reminding you of Corrie women from the past. All feels a bit clumsy to me.

Johnny pours a big drink as Jenny gets home. He lets rip, shouting and smashes a glass. Poor Jenny has put up with enough loss, He needs external help.

Michelle and Robert talk about the wedding and decide that maybe it should take place after all. Robert's idea and Michelle goes with it.

Daniel arrives back with Sinead and the cast of Cocoon are in the living room. Flora and co have the heating on full whack and one of them is smoking indoors. Flora is convinced Sinead is out to remove her and tells her she is staying put.

Jenny opens up to Johnny and explains that whatever loss you experience, it's equally upsetting. She wants to help him and Johnny gets angrier still. He has some more to drink and Jenny then gets angry and so it goes.

Hoping Johnny gets help, because this will prove to audiences nobody is beyond it.

Another brilliant episode, and Corrie is still on a role. Thanks to the writers and cast for keeping the momentum going. It feels real.

Coronation Street episode review, Weds 25 April, 8.30pm

Tracy wants Billy out, as she has got all moral about his recent foray into Trainspotting territory. If I were her, I'd be ringing the Guiness Book of World Records, because he got clean mighty quick! And, she is far from clean cut, herself.

Shona sticks up for Billy and tries to get Tracy to change her mind by having a word with another member of the Barlow clan. But, methinks she will not budge.

Rana and Kate sit cosy in the Rivers and Zee comes in with the news that Rana's brother has invested in his business. Kate looks on with jealousy in her eyes.

Summer has had a hard life. But she is becoming really mopey of late. Living with a killer, now a former addict and on the verge of being thrown out. She might actually be better off with her nan after all. I just want the kid to smile again.

Rana misses her parents and wants to ring but after she speaks to her brother, he persuades her to not bother. Meanwhile Adam goes to his accountant Angie and explains how awful Tracy has been. So she lets slip that Ms Barlow is fiddling the books. Now Adam has something on his favourite relly. I smell another scam, as Angie goes off for a coffee and gives Adam permission to search for proof that Trace is cooking the books.

Kate has joined the mopers and is annoyed that Rana misses her folks. You would do, as you would remember how they were, not as they are. The Platts have a meeting about David in the Rovers and how to get him away from his new apprentice/Lolita.

Shona has a stand off with Tracey amongst the bouquets of the florist with Adam in tow. They blackmail her and do a deal re Billy's flat, to save him and Winter, I mean Summer!

Alya gets irritated now, god It's spreading. Why? Because Rana's brother is helping Zee. She seems to have forgotten about her love affair of the century (I.e five minutes) with Luke though, so there's a bonus.

The Platts confront David and stage a Platt intervention. They rightfully tell him that this is not the best place for the kids and that his new girlfriend has to go. David accepts that the kids have gotta go. He really needs help.

Poor bloke. What is incredibly real and raw is the way this story is being handled. His mood swings, the way his behaviour and loyalties keep changing, it is all well written and explored.

Rana and Kate babe a heart to heart about Imran's investment. Rana gets angry because her family are not there for her and she feels needs Zee. Kate explains that her folks hate what she is and tells her not to contact them.

And the Wed episode finishes. Not the best one I have seen. As everyone feels like they are trapped in a Mike Leigh film, as there is a great deal of misery and melancholy at the moment.

Hoping that wonderful writer Jonathan Harvey spices things up with his wonderfully witty writing, real soon.

Coronation Street episode review, Friday 16 March 2018

Hiya! It’s just Jordan. I bet you don’t remember me as my contribution to the blog has been dwindling appallingly in recent weeks. Honestly, (and I think I’ve bleated something similar to this before), watching Corrie is hard work at the minute. It’s not interesting and the episodes pile up before you know it. But I have missed blogging and sharing my views in this wonderful hub. So, anyway, on with my review of Friday’s stomach-churning, issue-spinning trip to Weatherfield…

Tyrone is still in the bad books with Fiz after she found out he slept with Gemma the other night. It’s quite ironic really. I wonder if Kirsty felt the same way. Totally forgetting that their whole relationship was born out of an affair, she’s chucked him out and he has ended up staying at Kevin’s. Chesney – small minded as ever – calls round to Fiz’s, still convinced that Tyrone is now worse than Hitler but with a pinky promise (which Fiz wrongly cites as being mentioned in Legally Blonde), agrees to keep schtum in front of the children. Roy calls round to see Fiz who is relishing in all the attention because her partner committed a relatively minor offense. While they are chatting in the kitchen, Hope is up to no good in the next room, trying to convince cousin Joseph that her cape is magic and that he will fly if he jumps from the top of the stairs. She catches Hope ready to push him and suddenly realises she has much more to worry about than what her mechanic was tinkering with the other night. As we know, all of the bad behaviour in number 9 recently had been blamed on Ruby – Hope’s half-sister. Fiz had jumped to conclusions, deciding that she had inherited some crazy gene from her husband-beating mother. If anything, it would appear that Hope has inherited some crazy gene from her serial-killing father. Hope finally admits that she was the one that locked herself and her sister in the factory and set a power tool off and somewhat unsurprisingly, Fiz refrains from admitting to Tyrone that her daughter is in fact the crazy one, possibly as an act of petty revenge.
Still, by the end of the episode, the pair have agreed to get their relationship back on track (even after an incredibly small minded Chesney barged in, condemned Tyrone and labelled Fiz as stupid), and Fiz managed to have a private word with Hope, in which she promised to stop her psycho behaviour. Fiz doesn’t seem convinced though and sighs by the staircase, wondering whether there is any hope for Hope. However, she can’t resist bringing up the cheating thing one last time and when Tyrone goes to touch her, she bleats on yet again about how badly he hurt her, making the wrong things way more dramatic than they need to be.

Oooh what’s that I hear? Oh yes. It’s the rusty wheels of Corrie's issue trolley creaking. I’m not going to spend ages reporting on this one because as with all sensationalist storylines as of late, it is just as unnecessary as the last. But as it is so huge, I can’t avoid it. When fishing in Shona’s coat pocket for a spare tenner, he finds a broken necklace. He recognises it as one worn by his dead wife, Kylie NotMinogue. As it turns out, Lily had accidentally broken it and Shona had put it in her pocket with the intentions of taking it to get fixed. But David, who Sarah describes as “twisted”, is furious that she didn’t tell him. However, when new best friend Josh invites him out into town for drinks to celebrate his half-day at the salon, he changes his tune and forgets all about the necklace. Josh has a sinister plan. To cut a long story short, over the course of the day, he continually spikes David’s drinks with God knows what. When they come to leave the bar, David is in no fit state to get home alone and accepts Josh’s invitation to stop at his. High as a kite, he crawls onto the sofa and needs to be carried bed. Once there, Josh throws him face down and unbuckles his trousers. End of ep. Start of issue.

Elsewhere, Eva’s farcical fake pregnancy is starting to show. She’s eating all the junk food that her real life counterpart would faint at the thought of and this has to be covered up by Toyah as grieving for her relationship with Adam.

As well as all that, the weird storyline with Michelle’s on-off son continued. As we know, the son Michelle discovered was swapped at birth is now a trainee GP at the medical centre. Now called Ali (simply because there is now another Alex on the Street and we cannot possibly have that), he is refusing to have anything to do with Michelle and in Friday’s episode, he seemed to be having problems with his legal mother Wendy. The pair could be heard rowing by an entire waiting room behind the closed door of the examination room, much to the fabulous Moira’s intrigue who does everything she can to listen in.  Even Moira cannot quite grasp Liz’s explanation of the bizarre storyline which saw a baby swap discovery forgotten about for ten years and then suddenly unearthed in the weirdest of ways.

Not a bad couple of episodes. They were brilliantly written by the Jonathan Harvey, which is always a treat. It may come as a shock that I am not interested in all these issue driven storylines, but comedy characters such as Moira certainly make up for that. Even if they did bring her back on the most convenient technicality ever (well, not quite as convenient as Tracy’s murder charge), I’m glad they did. Along with the scenes with Eva and Toyah, her scenes were the best of the episodes. Corrie needs more daft farce like this. I’ve made it clear I’m not enjoying Corrie much right now bu I don’t think I’ll give up on it because as I’ve said many times before, I love the essence of Corrie. As Kylie says, “I can’t start giving you up, I’m mad about you…” – and as Sonia says “You’ll never stop me from loving you, it doesn’t really matter what you put me through”.

As always,
Thanks for reading!

Coronation Street Weds 18th January episode review

Hiya! It’s just Jordan with this week’s Wednesday review. A belated Happy New Year to you all; I have just managed to emerge from the pile of essays I’ve had to write this month.

Following Monday’s episode of Devastation Street, Wednesday started with Kevin looking on at his burnt-out garage and Steph is searching for flights to Portugal in order to sage a getaway following the revelation that Andy has been caught up in a bit of pantomime blackmail with Phelan. As we saw in Monday’s episode, Andy succumbed to Phelan’s demands yet again and became an arsonist. This plan was all wrapped up tightly by Phelan, who had spiked Kevin’s drink in the Bistro and dragged the forcibly inebriated mechanic into the garage and stuffed him into the backseat of a car. Even by Corrie’s standards, this was ridiculous. But as we are all loyal suspenders of disbelief, we go along with it yet again. Steph has miraculously secured herself an Andy jobs at a cocktail bar with her friend Katy (remember her?) and Luke is stunned to hear that they are leaving on Friday. He even buys her lame excuse that they’ve spoken about it for ages and just haven’t said anything. It is only when Luke jokingly asks if they need a mechanic in a cocktail bar that Andy begins to realise what he has done. Kevin’s business hangs in the balance and as such, Luke’s job. To cut a long story short, the fire is treated as an arson attack and Kevin is soon arrested on suspicion of starting it.

Moving onto the much-anticipated miscarriage storyline, in Wednesday’s episode the spotlight was finally turned on Steve. Michelle has been caterwauling her way through the past few episodes (and rightly so, after suffering such a cruel twist of fate) but it was a breath of fresh air to see how dad Steve is feeling. A heart-to-heart with old friend Peter leads Steve to revealing that he is the father of Leanne’s baby. Their mutual dislike of “Super Step-Dad” Nick amusingly caused the two to bond and Peter  If you can remember back in 2014 when Peter confided in Steve that he was having an affair with Tina, the  scene in Wednesday’s episode had the same sort of quality.  I enjoyed the scene with Peter and Steve far more than any of Michelle’s crying scenes. It will be interesting to see where this storyline goes now that only Leanne will be having a baby.

Elsewhere, Sally has had the common sense to inform her daughters that their dad’s garage went up in flames, despite their absence from the Street at present. However, in order to initiate a conversation with husband Tim, the talking ban must be lifted. The talking ban that Tim has imposed in retaliation to Sally’s sex ban. The ban is soon lifted though, on the condition that the pair find a new hobby – a different kind – to do together. As well as all this, that tramp who they are trying to make into the new Becky (it will never work) has started her new job at the café, complete with eye rolls and folded arms. She’s up to something, I’m sure. Oh, and Eileen got stupider, yet again. I’ve got a Phelan that she may think she’s getting married in the morning but I doubt the bells are gonna chime!

A decent episode, I guess. Nothing too special. I hate to admit it, but watching Corrie has become a chore. The Phelan/Andy blackmail storyline has gone beyond madness and I am not overly keen on the miscarriage storyline. Corrie is trying to change the way people think -  again. I do not look at the storyline with rose tinted glasses and see that Michelle suffered such an awful injustice because she was just shy of the 24 week point. She suffered a tragic loss and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone – but unfortunately limits and cut off points are there for a reason. As harsh as it may seem, some things just happen.

As always, thanks for reading!

Coronation Street review, Monday 26 May

Fresh fears for Steve are set to rock the already rather rocky relationship between Steve and Michelle. For a while now, many viewers have been wondering what the point is of the Steve/ Michelle pairing. Except for on the odd occasion, Michelle seems to despise Steve. At every opportunity she belittles his attempts to improve himself by attending the local college and in truth, so does his own mother, but we'll leave Liz aside for now. Michelle screams at him, criticises him, treats him like her naughty little boy  and accuses him of only wanting her for sex.

We know that Steve knows about the affair between Tina and Peter. We also know that he has not told Michelle. Should he have done? Probably. What would Michelle have done? Stormed round and told Carla straight away? Threatened Tina? Threatened Peter? We will never know now. Maybe that is all happening in a parallel universe.

What we should be focused on is how Michelle will react towards Steve when she does find out that he knew, as she surely will. There might in fact be a clue to Steve's secret in the way he reacts to Tina's news that she is leaving and leaving right now. While Michelle hugs Tina and tells her that she will miss her, Steve is much cooler, not exactly dismissive, but not far off. He utters a formulaic, 'We'll be sad to see you go.'

It is likely that Michelle's reaction to Steve's knowing will reach a pretty high number on the Richter scale. This will be the end for Steve and Michelle. Just an afterthought - is it now Andrea's opportunity to snare Steve? Or is she truly settled with Lloyd? Is she? Is she really?

Rita has received much criticism later. That said, Rita has never shirked telling the truth to her protégées over time. Tina has  been one of Rita's charges for a while now and there is no doubting the affection between them.  As Tina arrives to say goodbye, she tells Rita that she has been her mate, her mum and her grandma rolled into one. Finally Tina tells Rita who it is she is running away with and Rita gives her what for. 'He's a user Tina. He'll bleed you dry then he'll dump you.' Tina turns on her and lists the surnames Rita has had. 'Tanner, Fairclough, Sullivan'  Rita is direct and honest with Tina but  her anger at what she believes is Tina's stupidity, results in a slap to Tina's face. Undeterred Tina waits for Peter and the taxi.

Despite it being her engagement party Tracy is still up to get involved in a few bits of dodgy dealing with Tony. Carla practically has to drag Peter to the party at The Rovers for 'Roy' and Tracy's engagement do. Deirdre was responsible for the cake and the ever unforgiving Tracy tells her mother off as well as banning all Deirdre's belts from the party.

Tracy decides to harangue her sister-in-law too, which results in Carla having to shout out that  the reason that she will not be drinking, is because she is pregnant, at which point Tina enters the pub to witness it all.

Peter has explained to Steve that he feels as if he is a tiny car in the middle of two juggernauts racing towards him. Who could possibly answer the question Peter asks? 'How do I break it to Tina that I'm not going with her, and stop her running straight to Carla."

Gail learns from Eva that Leanne and Kal have been seeing each other, which puts Gail's annoyance about the forgotten picnic into perspective.  Gail has never thought Leanne good enough for her precious Nick and Eva letting slip that they are seeing each other is just further fuel for Gail to carry on disliking Leanne.

Owen is doing his best to make Anna's birthday a good one. Izzy helps him and Owen and Anna end up in a hotel but it is clear that Anna's memory of the last time she was in a hotel was with Phelan and  it seems very much that that memory will result in spoiling her birthday treat. She will surely have to explain to Owen soon, won't she?

Coronation Street double episode review, Monday 6 January

Gail! Are you listening? Surely everyone watching this evening is willing you to give David and Kylie the chance to reconnect and adjust to their living together again. It will be extremely difficult for them under any circumstances, but with you hanging around, it will make it even more difficult. There is no   doubt that it would be a good deal easier for them if you absented yourself in order to let them do that. Go and watch your films starring Doris Day and Rock Hudson elsewhere. So, that’s told her.

David asks Audrey to let Kylie have her job back and he also does the ironing. ‘Weird and creepy’ is Kylie’s verdict but as David says, it beats ‘drinking beer, watching TV and scratching my backside.’
Kylie and David’s list of Gail’s pros and cons was perhaps a good idea for them, but Gail’s position as head cook and bottle washer seems threatened and Gail herself appears vulnerable. Would they really kick her out?

The list is as follows. Under pros, they put babysitting and cooking. Only one con, Gail’s singing, is mentioned, until it appears that the cons are coming so thick and fast that they need another piece of paper.

Now we know that Michelle is not pregnant, what excuse has she got for being such a pain to live with?    Her recent antagonism towards Steve and in particular her sneery and unsupportive attitude regarding his sincere efforts to better himself has made her unpopular with viewers.  One of the reasons she has been so unpleasant to Steve might be that he lied about Andrea’s attractiveness quotient. But can that really explain it? On arrival for breakfast, Michelle reaches a new low of sheer nastiness, but her first victim is Liz. ‘Urgh! Do you have to do that in here?’ She tells Liz, who is painting her nails that ‘it reeks.’  Liz points out that Michelle does her nails in their living room, but it seems Michelle’s nail varnish doesn’t reek. Hmm.

It’s not over yet, because now it’s Steve’s turn. As Liz explains that the nail work must continue, Steve., no doubt in an attempt to lighten the mood, conjures up Mastermind, ‘She’s started so she’ll finish.’  Oh no, not amusing to Michelle who launches a savage attack on Steve’s eating habits. As he snorts in laughter at the Mastermind joke, ‘That’s hilarious,’ she says sarcastically, and ‘snorting like a pig is apt.’ As he continues his breakfast she says, ‘Gobble, gobble, gobble – like a turkey stuffing itself for Christmas.’ She then talks of a table full of food, groaning under its own weight.’  Understandably confused by now, Steve asks, ‘Am I a pig, a turkey or a table?’

Michelle thinks she must be pregnant. She confides in Liz who cannot stop herself from spilling the beans to Steve, who immediately takes a drink from an optic and smiles broadly, then performs a celebratory dance while Liz gets giddy. But their joy is short-lived as Michelle summons Liz and Steve to tell them that she is not pregnant. Steve’s disappointment is palpable. Then she announces that she and Steve are to go on a diet. Poor Steve! The highs and lows of life!

Lloyd is someone else who does a celebratory dance. He will be having lunch with Andrea and tells Steve to bring the drinks over, ‘soft lad’ to which Steve agrees.  He is charmed by Anthea, or should that be Andrea, and puts on The Supremes singing Where Did Our love Go? Clearly smitten with Andrea, it is evident that he will have his heart broken. Though she tells him it was fun having lunch with him, she looks directly at Steve as she leaves. She wants his notes, she claims, and though Liz tries to put Andrea down, by deliberately making a mistake over her name then asking her if the dog ate her notes, Andrea is the clear winner when she says,’ She’s  quite funny your mum – I hope I’m that sprightly at her age.’  And so the killer blow is delivered - execution style. She is intriguing is Andrea and a great addition to the cobbles. There is a lot we do not know about her.

Scenes with Peter and Tina make for uncomfortable viewing – we know how deceitful he is being and how easily he fools Carla.  Even more uncomfortable was the woman to woman chat between Tina and Carla. Tina admits to Peter how awful all the deceit makes her feel and tells him that he will get his wish of her staying in Weatherfield, if he tells Carla about their affair..
Carla seems particularly stressed and with good reason. Hayley’s clear deterioration is profoundly affecting her and then Peter’s ‘confession’ of nearly having given in to a drink makes her feel less  of a wife than she feels she should be, and then there’s the sacking of Beth and her cavalier attitude to Hayley’s imminent death, plus Peter not meeting the client to secure an order. At the moment, Carla is in ignorance about her husband’s affair, but it will only be a matter of time and then – stand well back.
Beth probably deserved her sacking, but it is not easy to see someone out on their ear. That said, her remark to Eva about Jason being her mother’s leftovers was way below the mark. Good job though that Carla arrived back from Hayley’s when she did, because although Peter claimed to be dealing with it, he was well out of his depth. Beth turns to him to ask for his job back and all he can say is, ‘She’s the boss, not me.’

Roy’s attempts at encouraging Hayley to eat are so touching. She doesn’t feel hungry and Roy finds it hard to accept. Feeding someone when they are ill is a manifestation of an  instinctive desire to help and heal. Roy’s smile is so sweet when Hayley starts to enjoy the strawberries that the ever kind Fiz and Tyrone bring for her. Four latter day saints all together in Roy and Hayley’s flat.
