Good day. Since I last penned a review I have been away and I have been around the World (Japan, Pacific Ocean, Alaska, Vancouver) and Ireland (Rosslare, Waterford, Cork, Mizen Head, Kerry, Galway and back to Holyhead). I promise to be here for the next few weeks! Tonight the most important story is Freddie who has been staying over with Evelyn but has returned to Roy's now that Roy is recovered from the stent operation. In a masterpiece of acting Freddie make it clear that he prefers the warmth and treats provided by Evelyn and shows a huge reluctance to return to the flat. Roy has to ask Evelyn for maps (with added ducks on the lake) so that he can learn the dog's preferred walks!
When Yasmeen invites Roy to join her at the book club to discuss Elizabeth Gaskell's first novel Mary Barton - which was the Coronation Street of its day - Roy asks Evelyn to dog sit which outwardly she disdains but secretly is keen to have the pooch in her arms - although upset that Roy is off out with Yasmeen leaving her with nothing better to do than dogsit. When Roy returns from the book reading he suggests that he and Evelyn should have a cooperative care arrangement for Freddie. Evelyn says she will sleep on it.
After that it does downhill. Max wants to prove that he has changed his opinions and that he regrets his actions before he was banged up. Max keeps putting off telling Bec why he was inside although tells Shona he will. So he meets Bec and they go to the park to shoot some basketball. You can hardly blame Alya for not believing that Max has changed and so when she sees Bec give him a peck she sees red and later explains to Bec that she is seeing a terrorist and racist (and probably many other -ists). Bec returns to the Platt homestead and asks Max about his lies. He says he likes the person but it cuts no ice as she can only see that she has been chosen because of the colour of her skin. Max is in the dumpster. Max admits to David that he had not managed to tell Bec so he is at fault. David tries to convince him not to give up just yet.
Daisy is also working on reforming herself - she plans to stay well clear of Ryan and wants to concentrate on Daniel. Meanwhile Debbie pops in to see Ryan and he admits that he can sort of see why Daisy did what she did - and Debbie says that he must find a way to closure if both are to be seeing each other on the Street.
Daisy is off with Daniel to view flats in Didsbury - now there's posh. Ryan arrives and cannot believe that Daisy is sharing bubbly with Jenny, he cannot believe she has moved on so quickly and he storms out of the Rovers. In the Bistro, Ryan reports back to Debbie where they sit in silence until Ryan caves and talks. Slowly Debbie is helping him.
Meanwhile Sarah seems excessively keen to get Adam into bed - and whilst I can understand his reluctance, might her eagerness for congress be either off-putting or indeed a reason for questioning? She starts at breakfast time with a suggestion they go out in the evening in the blue dress he likes and then she has to almost beg a farewell kiss. However later he gets the full blue dress demo and being in a better mood they decide to stay in and he says he wants them to work and there is a full on snog.
Dev convinces Bernie she is overdoing it and she needs to ease off - with a night off. Paul volunteers to cook dinner for four (including Billy) and heads off to do the shopping. On his return (Weatherfield Wayfarer is no longer a minibus bus but something far more substantial) Paul has a bad fall as he leaves the bus and the bus driver immediately departs.
Bernie spots him and helps him pick himself and the shopping up. Paul is just trying to be realistic - he knows things are just going to get worse - but Bernie is not accepting it yet. He tells Bernie and Billy that they need to accept he is going to get worse.
Adam's mind is more on Damon and getting him off the Street. So a little bit of digging with Paul gives him Niall's name and his base on Benson Street in a tyre shop. Adam is soon telling the head honcho of the Weatherfield underworld (and I do not mean Stephen) Damon's plan to dob in Mr Big to the police to get off his minor infraction. I am unsure that Niall Granger believed a word he said so Adam beards Damon outside the Bistro and gives him some legal advice to make himself scarce before Niall's lads pop over to finish off the job they started a few weeks ago. Damon decides he needs a holiday, grabs a laptop and other bits and pieces and then leaves a message for Sarah warning her that Adam is more dangerous than she can possibly imagine. He then drives away.
Adam emerges from the bedroom wearing underpants and sees that there is a voicemail on Sarah's phone. He listens to part of it and then deletes it and smiles to himself - problem resolved.
Nothing less than great tonight over Freddie. The other outstanding performance was Debbie. I might hate the concept of "closure" etc - but the second scene where she told Ryan they would sit in silence until he wanted to talk was just great. The way the Street works we rarely see simple friendships work these days - but Debbie is probably a lot better for Ryan than either of his mothers might be at this point and the team are using that link between the two very well this evening.
Be back this time next week.
