Julie Goodyear, one of Coronation Street’s all-time greats, has been diagnosed with dementia. The icon who played Bet Lynch for over three decades, has been “suffering forgetfulness” according to her husband Scott, and sought medical advice before the diagnosis.
In a statement made to the British media, Scott said:
"Unfortunately, Julie has been suffering forgetfulness for some time and we have been seeking medical advice and assistance - but we now know that there is no hope of a reversal in the situation and that her condition will get progressively, and perhaps speedily, worse.
Despite having left Corrie back in 2003, Julie remains a fan favourite for her portrayal of the brassy, no-nonsense barmaid-turned-landlady. Bet is my all-time favourite Corrie character and Julie played her beautifully, tapping into the tragedy and comedy that made Coronation Street so unmissable back in the day.
I’m sure I speak for all at the Blog when I say we wish Julie all the best and she’ll be in our thoughts as she and her family navigate this difficult road.

Are we able to send her well wishes that she will receive? I live in the U.S., Michigan to be exact, and she will always be my favorite Corrie character. I have watched the show since I was in high school, and I am 59 years old now and still a fan. I would like to send her something to thank her for playing Bette and creating such an iconic character that will always live on.
Bet Lynch..famous for her earrings and leopard prints. Wonderful idea Vj129. I grew up on Corrie since before I went to school (same age as you)....and she is an icon. Dementia is a terrible disease may God ease her suffering and fears
