There's a wonderful story today in the News of the World with a great headline of "By 'eck as dyke!". If this story's true - and there's no certainty it is as they only quote a 'Granada source' - then Sophie Webster is set to be Coronation Street's first lesbian. This sounds a wonderful story to this fan's ears - it's about blooming time there was a bit of lady love on the cobbles although I'm still holding out for Gail and Eileen to get it together. Until then, and if it's true, this blog says go, Sophie go, and make the role a convincing role-model for young lesbians everywhere.
Mind you, it's not the first time the News of the World has mooted the lesbian on Corrie story. Have a look here from July 2008.

You know, it could be fun. I say fun because i'm picturing Sally's gobsmacked reaction and then as she gets used to the idea, lording it over everyone how liberal and modern she is, and joining Pflag, all that sort of thing and being as insufferable as Sally usually is lol Whereas poor long suffering Kev will be in the pub shaking his head over a pint.
I think it sounds great and always thought that if Corrie did include a lesbian character it would have to be an established woman so that fans would believe the character completely. I think Sally will be ok with it and Kev will eventually but his Neanderthal ways will kick in first.
I think Sally will after she gets over the shock. I wonder what Rosie's reaction will be!
i think it is realy good that they are doing something about the many girls that are not sure if they are lesbians or not and i am one of them so go on brooke and well done for doing this
