Coronation Street Episode Review;Wednesday 6th of July 8 pm

Phill-sized problems keep on coming for Fiz? Pre-wedding nerves are now 100% in overdrive for our flame-haired and harassed bride-to-be. Putting Tyrone firmly in his place, Fiz remains insistent on marrying Phil, and with battle-axe buddies Mimi and Evelyn settling scores, it only leaves Camilla as an outrider that could now destroy the big day? Tonight, the Hen party is in full swing with Maria devising a game of Mr & Mrs, which Camilla predictably wins. Things get worse for Fiz as Camilla admits to email exchanges between her and Phill, and that she still has feelings for him. It then transpires that Phill’s ex had an affair, which she regrets, and she wants him back. Fiz is understandably suspicious, what with Tyrone’s past actions, and spies on Phill, seemingly caught in a clinch with Camilla outside Speed Daal. Maria takes a snapshot on her mobile phone, and ironically, she takes that as proof of Phill’s subterfuge. 

Meanwhile - Audrey calls a Platt clan council meeting to discuss divvying her fortune! Audrey isn't dying, but being a rich o.a.p and head of this hilariously dysfunctional bunch of reprobates, she decides to get her affairs in order and clearly aligned. Predictably, the bistro meal descends into chaos as various family members appear to butter up and bribe Audrey into submission, only for Audrey to announce the bequeathing of her cash to Weatherfield’s retail association (W.A.R.T.S) in memory of Alf. Disgusted, David decides to take action and consults Adam about taking power of attorney. Audrey then tells Stephen she’s lying about the warts donation, telling him to keep it a secret from the rest of the clan. 

Later, Phill turns up at the Rovers and tells Fiz that he rebuffed Camilla and only shared an innocent hug - no canoodling. Phill then admits to never sending any emails, and Mimi is outed as the culprit. Phill banishes his Mother from the street and bans her from the wedding. Later on, we see Hope secretly accessing Phill’s laptop. Could she be the email spammer and be the one out to sabotage Friday's wedding?   

Elsewhere tonight - Steve’s N0.1 roof problem causes more grief, but he manages to find a roofer via a flirtatious cab customer and agrees to pay three grand up front. Alya, Leanne, and Debbie are all annoyed at Toyah’s actions, which seem mired in grief, as she rejects Imran’s ashes. Stu discovers his daughter has moved and conveys his sadness to Yasmeen and Alya.

Coronation Street Episode Review; Wednesday 16th of February 7.30 & 8.30 pm

This week, Wednesday night’s Coronation Street concentrated on Amy’s post-birthday spiking nightmare, and her new relationship with the reformed bad boy, Jacob. Drink spiking is another issue-based storyline, but, it's also very relevant - less so in the U.K mainstream media, but, Sheffield (my home town) had a spate of drink spikes just before Christmas, so kudos on this occasion! Steve takes the fatherly concern to the extreme and wallops Jacob with a (well-staged) punch. 

Thankfully, Amy speedily recovers from the spiking (thanks to her boyfriend) and is soon ready to leave the hospital. However, we viewers are left wondering about who would put GHB in her drink? Would I be wrong in thinking it could be one of the teens that were out at the club that night? Aadi and Asha were both out, and Aadi has had one or two drunken random acts in his recent past, or, is that a red-herring? 

Jacob does try to make some headway with Steve tonight ( he does seem genuinely rehabilitated) but that punch puts paid to any resolution between the two. I guess Jacob could remind Steve of his younger self? Even Leanne is on Steve’s side and chastises Amy with a verbal warning about her new fella’s past. 

Anyway, the police have reviewed nightclub CCTV which confirms Jacob didn't do it, so it seems Daniel’s own investigating is well worth continuing. Later, Jacob is arrested anyway, but for supplying fake I.Ds to the youths.  Amy is muddled by all of the events and seeks solace in a chat with Sam and Simon, who drive forward a few more home truths. Simon then admits to getting Jacob arrested, and rather than stick up for her fella, Amy proceeds to dump him instead. Is this the end of their relationship, or merely the beginning? I hope it's the latter, as those two have great chemistry, as do Daniel and Daisy, who I’m pleased are also back together following their Valentine meal. 

Also, following their separate drunken Valentine night, Sarah and Lydia are both back at Underworld and nursing hangovers. It is brilliant to see Underworld back on screen, and loony Lydia’s hate campaign against Adam and Sarah is a treat. Tonight, Lydia’s machiavellian machinations continue and with all talk of her affair with the married man, Sarah gives her a warning about wrecking her own life for a fella. Is Lydia suggesting that this fictional married man she’s seeing is Adam? This story is one to keep me watching, unlike Tim’s heart attack recovery, which gets less funny by the week! Elaine has embarked on a heart health course, much to her son's, and Sally's annoyance.

 

Meanwhile, familial fallouts at N0.5 continue, as Joseph’s Grandma pays a visit to check on the young lads home situation. Bizarrely, Izzy didn't tell her Mother about her grandchild going missing, and being oblivious to recent drama's, Linda takes Joseph's parents to the bistro for a meal. The truth is nearly out via big gob Debbie Webster, but Chesney and Gemma cover it up instead. 

Overall, a good pair of episodes with a lot going off tonight! It was great to see Leanne back on screen, Mary, albeit briefly, and this new 'whodunnit' alongside loony Lydia's incessant craziness, was a real treat. 

Ps - I have a 5-year-old daughter so I can very much relate to Russsian poo-lette!

Coronation Street Episode Review; Weds 30th Jan 8.30pm

As promised, here is part two of this Wednesday's Corrie, all wrapped up in a handy blog review.
Seb reconciles with Sarah, as his mission to adopt the twins heads into court. Without adult representation, will the lad succeed in winning back the twins?.

Over on the street, Tracy informs Tyler's Mum that Amy has already had an abortion, that didn't put her off slurping her tea though. Tracy decides it might be best to move the family down south, in hope of avoiding all the conflict. In the context of the serial drama, I doubt that will happen. The parent's self-realisation of their messy re-marriage, looks to have more repercussions, than wedding fights and farcical honeymoons. As for the abortion lie, well, it's not long before Amy bumps into Tyler's Mum on the street, and the truth is revealed.

Roy continues to try reconciling Evelyn and Tyrone ahead of her holiday. A certain kinship seems to have formed between those two, I hope that's just the beginning of this friendship.


On the street, Paul riles his sister, Gemma, as her brothers Coronation Street charm fest continues. Lively ideas of a northern e-commerce website cause hilarity amongst Rita, Brian, and Cathy. Gemma's comrades seem far more interested in her brother, and it looks like this sibling rivalry is just getting started.

In court, Seb lies about his employment and paints a pretty picture of homely harmony, whilst Abi and Adam look less than convinced. Taking the stand, Abi, although heartfelt, can't help but admit that the kids are better off in foster care and admits the truth about the reality of the her son's   work/life imbalance.

Back on the street, Seb's angry storm continues, and Abi seeks solace on the good ship 'Lost Buoy'. Before you can say 'nautical euphemism' Abi makes sure the boat door is locked before Peter drops anchor! (sorry). Will this new romance, cause ripples or waves, for other residents of the street?.

Corrie Comicals week ending 16 November 2018

Much of the Monday episode took place at the same hotel where Steve and Tracy recently married as we joined the celebrations of the North West Regional hairdressers at a modest three star hotel just off the ring road ((c) David Platt).  Audrey received a lifetime award and Claudia received the flowers (above) - at high speed, obviously no experience as a bridesmaid as she ought to have caught them!  Audrey pulled off the "Slightly Drunk but Totally Know What I Am Saying" award recipient to a "T".  Someone should give her a real award!  And to balance the record Audrey is really nice about Maria - wishing her well for the future.

As I predicted somewhere Steve and Tracy sign Amy's (Adam) contract without reading it.  Within seconds they are exchanging their usual loving courtly respectful insults, in front of Amy who brings them up short and threatens to divorce them.  Finally they read what they signed (above).

Has anyone told Leanne and Tracy that they are almost wearing the same top (they need to be more careful as Steve might get confused)?  During this episode Nick assured Audrey that all was well, advised Carla that he would tell Elsa and Leanne about each other, told Leanne that he had a few one night stands after he left Weatherfield and confirmed to Elsa that there was no-one else replacing her.  If Nick opens his mouth he is telling more porky pies than Jude manages in a month.  He cannot keep it up surely?

Talking of fashion I stand by my view that Maria looks fabulous in just about anything, but the reason that such a fuss is being made of this dress is that it is being auctioned for Anxiety UK - so good luck to all involved.

The two episodes on Monday were full of excellent stuff and if I could embed them both here I would.  I only record the lighter moments and the Abi story was also there - so just a quick shout out to Sally Carman who is pulling an absolute blinder at the moment.  The Street can have huge highs and lows and all in two episodes.  It drives our love of the Street.

I had no idea what Roy was talking about either when he mentioned Milk Thistle so I looked it up.  There seems no definitive proof of it being beneficial.  Roy has spotted that Rita and Maria may have a touch of "flu", in response to Rita's question (above) he played a straight bat and said that it was only observable by a trained eye!

During Monday's awards dinner Emma was impressed with Ken's hair.  Daniel is of course proud of the mop he has inherited and demonstrates several possible presentations to amuse Sinead, including the Sartre version seen above.

This comes (with approval) from the @itvcorrie twitter account showing Norris's Angels - Maria, Audrey and Rita, all armed and deadly which they were discussing in the Rovers.

Amy continues to pile it on refusing to put instant noodles with zero nutritional value in the basket and also alleging that Tracy believes that wine counts as one of her five fruit and vegetables a day and it is date night with dad apparently.  Tracy wants to get off to court - as she says she is a decent human being (above).  What the subtitlers did not report was Leanne's giggle as she heard this outrageous claim.  Timed to perfection ladies.  Tracy rumbles that Leanne is about to re-unite with Nick which is overheard by Elsa; looks like Nicky's lies are about to be discovered.  There are 30 minutes between the two episodes and clearly Nicky breaks his marriage vows in the gap.

So a little later the two lovers once again agree to be completely honest with each other for it to work in the future and Nick has to get a divorce; then Nick reveals that he separated from Elsa as recently as last week!  I cannot convey the tone of Leanne's voice as she spat "Last week?!" back at him.  The venom contained in those two words if converted to a snake bite would probably fell the entire Coronation Street cast and crew!  And it made me laugh because we all knew it was coming.

I did have a smidgin of sympathy for Carla this week.  She is trying to run a business and meanwhile Nick, Leanne and Elsa are deciding to unravel everything in the Underworld office.  It must be quite distracting to work there.

Extras at Work

As it is clearly hair week in Weatherfield and as this individual has already appeared above twice, so he gets the vote for attending the hairdressing do on Monday evening!

By the way although she physically departed a while ago credits still show Kate Oates as being responsible.
