Coronation Street Episode Review; Weds 17 July 7.30pm

Man-eating Maria's ravenous appetite is still starving, so Emma sets her up on another internet date.
Will this lunchtime get-together fare any better for our favourite stylist?

Talking of romance, Eileen is easily bought by Jan's gift of flowers. With Seb sulking about Alina dumping him, Eileen hides her newest (dodgy builder) relationship from her lonesome lodger.

Sarah gifts the factory girls with their official share certificates and thoughts turn to sun-kissed holidays. Dreams are soon dashed though, as she tells the girls that if they want to rebuild the factory, they will need to invest their shares into some building work. The insurance won't be any time soon as the factory collapse and investigation is still ongoing (where is the report!?).

Speaking of which, Sarah's suspicions about Gary's involvement in the roof collapse has Adam's conscience pricked. With news of Nick's innocence reaching the solicitor, Adam decides to tell Imran his suspicions and Sarah questions Gary about the voicemail message. Adam decides it's time the police were called, yet surprisingly, Sarah still has her doubts.

Rocked by the sudden reappearance of Rick's lackey, Sharon, Gary spins her the same story he told Rick's daughter. However, murder is the least of his worries, as the police collect him from Coronation Street, to question him about the roof collapse.

Settling into Tyrone's, Roy is having a busman's holiday by making a fry up for Ty. However, Evelyn's backache has spoiled her appetite. Ed relays the news that the Roy's Rolls could be closed for weeks =, and Evelyn protests (perhaps a bit too much) about Roy staying any longer.

Meeting in the Rovers, the workers unite and discuss whether to stick or twist with their share options. As votes are counted, the majority agree to spend their cash on getting the factory re-built (no 'love island' for Beth or Kirk then). Also in the Rovers, Moira flirts outrageously with Jan, only for Eileen to finally tell the her that SHE is dating him... just as Seb walks in!

Out on her date, Maria's match appears to be a bit of a Mummy's boy who talks with a posh accent!.

I can't see this going well, can you?.

Coronation Street Episode Review; Weds 10 July 7.30pm

New parents Daniel and Sinead have more to worry about than most, of late. Bertie, work, factory collapses and an incessant lack of sleep are causing them to worry. With Sinead's test results due, she seeks advice and favour from Tracy, whilst Daniel needs a chat with Adam.

Gail's unannounced eastern exodus is also causing some worry for Sarah who is reluctant to let her jailbird brothers know what's happening.

Michael and Steve's unicorn plan for Tiny is coming to fruition, yet Tim remains unaware. Can they keep Tim out of the way so they can use Tiny for a unicorn party gig? Roping in an unassuming Craig as a distraction plan, the lads head out to the children's party with the horse.

Meanwhile, Ed has a job at the bistro, and Robert makes excuses to Vicky about their next scan appointment. With Michelle's mystery wedding plans clashing with the scan, Robert tries to hire Ryan to cover a Bistro shift, meaning he has to cancel his DJ gig at Speed Daal.

Alya then heads over to the Bistro, can she persuade Ryan to change his mind?

In HMP Norcross, Leanne and Shona visit Nick and David. Bickering across visiting tables, guards soon separate the boys and Gail's disappearance suddenly seems less surprising. Collared by the dodgy druggy/painter guy, it seems Nick may be about to get a beating. Will David step into the breach to defend his brother?.

At the Rovers, Sean apologies to Paul, who in turn professes his innocence to Billy about the besmirch on his (once criminal) character. Can the boys kiss and make-up?

Daniel shares his woes in Adam who admits he should try to stay strong for the sake of Sinead. However, Adam tells him that he has to be honest about his true feelings. At the hospital, the couple has a sullen heart-to-heart and vow to stick together whatever the test results may be.

Coronation Street Episode Review; Weds 22 May 7.30pm

Welcome to Wednesday's episode part one, all wrapped up in a handy blog review.  

Steve's run of bad luck with Streetcars continues as GoLucky' are stealing all his customers and after his run-in with police and the robbery, he feels disheartened. Tracy tells him he can't give up, and he's soon back in the cab office armed with biscuits. Still feeling shaken though, Steve is called out for a fare and decides to go out armed again, only this time it's with a baseball bat stowed away in the cab.

At Roy's Rolls, Nick's slippery twists and turns (just what is he hiding?) continue. After picking apart Toyah's lie with ease, the dastardly factory boss asks Gary to cover for him, should the police ask him where the barber's fitting job money came from. Before leaving for a mystery meeting, Nick still has time to fill Leanne with more lies.

Apologising to David, Shona pays him a visit at the barbers and tries to make amends for the dinner date disaster, as a jealous Natalie looks on.

Also playing Leanne for a fool, Imran continues to deceive his girlfriend's sister and makes out he's on Tinder now he's split with Toyah. Questioning her job, Imran tells her that her secretarial position at the solicitors remains safe.

Roy apologises to Brian, in Wayne's absence, about his recent outburst. Later on, and bumping into Wayne outside the factory, Roy admits he is still carrying the stress of Carla's current mental state.

Paula and Sophie are back on the street following the pony trekking, regaling tales to Sally of ham and Pedro (!?) in Spain. Sally's tales of city farm riding suggest her social climbing skills are about to come to the fore again. Nick tells Leanne that Paula is still helping him to keep the police away from investigating his accounts. Trying to explain away any doubts to Leanne, Nick is now evermore desperate to keep the truth at bay.

Craig pays another visit to the barbers to see Natalie. However, David doesn't want to leave her on her own. That is until Natalie subtly suggests telling the young PC some home truths. David seems reluctant to leave her there and leaves Shona alone at home again.

Weighed down with Nick's troubles, Leanne confides in Sarah about the police sniffing around, only for Sarah to reveal that £30k went in and out of the factory books very quickly. Leanne decides to dig deeper. Phoning Elsa, Leanne finds out that the £30k didn't come from her at all, and as Sarah admits Gary's recent loan shark escapades, Leanne has food for thought.

Back at the barbers, David lets down Shona again as he's stuck training Natalie. After flirting in front of Craig, Natalie decides to take the lead and gives David a massive snog!

Just what is she playing at?

Out on the pick-up, Steve's nerves are shot, and to make matters worse, he ends up with a cab full of mouthy lads. Back on Coronation Street, the gang of lads try and do a fare dodge, Steve is quick to act with his bat. Chasing the lads down the street, one of them is suddenly hit by a car.

Steve's bad luck seems to have just gotten a lot worse!

In My Corrie Feelings - Part 1

Coronation Street has really made me feel my feelings lately, fulfilling my need for a good cry most weeks. The factory collapse and the fallout has been particularly hard hitting.

As I’ve somewhat been able to start having coherent thoughts about the collapse and all that followed, can I just say, bloody hell.

Easily some of the best Corrie I’ve ever seen, and I say that with confidence. I was worried that I wouldn’t feel the full impact of it as I was late to the party and stupidly scrolled through Twitter, but I have never been so wrong.

I don't think I’ve ever cried at anything I’ve seen on TV than when I did watching the collapse episodes. Kate breaking down after learning that Rana wasn’t going to make it, Imran getting Kate inside the imploding factory, their beautiful wedding vows.

My heart was physically breaking and I watched in horror and amazement at this tragedy unfold with a glass of much needed wine and mascara running down my face.

Imran’s reaction to losing his baby sister was haunting. His anger and devastation affecting his life that would never be the same again. As we watched him trash the flat before breaking down on the floor, it was a harrowing microcosm for what has ricocheted around the Street.

The realism of it all was shocking and breathtaking. I take my hat off to every single person involved in creating these episodes; cast; film crew; makeup; set design – absolutely everybody.

Special credit, though, has to go to Bhavna Limbachia, Faye Brookes, and Charlie de Melo in this storyline. Alison King has also been incredible but I’ll get to that more later. I don’t think they’ve had an opportunity quite like this to stretch their acting as far as Corrie’s concerned but they really knocked it out of the park.

It really is something spectacular when you don’t just watch a TV show, but you feel it. It’s the feeling of needing to sit in silence for a good ten minutes after it’s finished, basking in the dismal afterglow of a tragedy you feel you’ve really witnessed.

After all that had happened, we watched as Rana’s loved ones tried to come to terms with her untimely passing and attempt to piece their lives back together.  There was a lot of shouty Imran, but I’ll forgive it. He and Kate made my eyes glisten once again as they watched Rana’s memorial video in the beautifully lit community garden. Can someone pass me a tissue?

This storyline is proof that Corrie is returning to it’s top game, if it’s not there already. It’s not just this however, there’s a few more characters and stories that have had me gripped. Alas, I’ve realised that if I don’t cut this into parts we’ll be here until God knows when. See you for the next part!
