If the traditional Christmas dinner was not an option, what would you go for?
I go on holiday around Christmas time so on Christmas Day we don’t have Christmas dinner anyway. We usually have turkey sandwiches and salad on the beach.

What would you buy your character, Sophie, for Christmas?
I’d get her a reading light because I think she reads a lot.

What is the weirdest present you’ve received?
People say I’m hard to buy for so at 25 years old I still write a list every year and tell people to pick something off it.

What would be Sophie’s ideal way to spend Christmas Day?
She would spend it with family and then nip into the Rovers for a drink with everyone.

Do you have any Christmas traditions?
My family all get on a plane to Gran Canaria. If I’m here for Christmas I find it mad because people start running around going crazy and rushing.

How’s it going, balancing Dancing on Ice and preparing for Christmas?
I’m trying to do it all online because I feel like the second I walk to the shops I’m going to get stressed and if I get stressed I end up buying things for people that I’ve already got things for. I’m trying to balance it all at the minute.

How is the training going?
It’s hard but it’s different, it definitely pushes me. We have to learn a new skill in four weeks and then perform it so that makes me really nervous but I can do a turn on the ice so far and I have my own little language for it. I make up my own names for moves like a ‘swoosh’ and a ‘swirl’.

On a scale of Scrooge to Putting-Your-Christmas-Decorations-Up-In-November, how much do you like Christmas?
I love it. Christmas is for relaxing with your family and I don’t ever seem to do that if I spend Christmas in England so that’s why I like going away. I also love Christmas parties and getting dressed up with all the glitzy things that come out in the shops.

What’s your favourite Christmas song?
Mariah’s All I want for Christmas

Coronation Street Christmas Q&A with Nicola Thorp

What food would your Christmas dinner not be complete without?
Stuffing... bread sauce too.

If  the traditional Christmas dinner was not an option, what would you go for?
I don’t really eat Christmas dinner because I’m a veggie/vegan. My family have a tradition where we eat a KFC bucket on Boxing Day and I have a veggie burger so I would have that instead if I couldn’t have stuffing or bread sauce.

What would you buy your character, Nicola, for Christmas?
I’d get her a personal alarm or pepper spray because you never know what’s going to happen on Coronation Street with Phelan is lurking around...

What is the weirdest present you’ve received?
My mum got me a draught excluder once. It wasn’t my main present but it was in with the rest of the presents. I was like, “What’s this?” and she went “It’s useful.”

What would be Nicola’s ideal way to spend Christmas day?
In a fantasy world, she would like to spend one more Christmas with her mum and dad because she is having a baby and they aren’t around.

Do you have any Christmas traditions?
Yes, we have a snowman. This is a snowman who sits on the dining room table and when we’ve finished Christmas dinner, my mum announces that we’ve all got raffle tickets hidden under our plates from Mr Snowman. We go up to Mr Snowman, give him our raffle ticket and inside him there is a present for us that coordinates with our tickets. Everyone talks to the snowman as if he’s real, and we say “Thank you Mr Snowman, see you again next year”. My mum still does talcum powder footprints from the door to the chimney but last year she only used the right foot so it looked like Santa had hopped from the front door to the tree!

On a scale of Scrooge to Putting-Your-Christmas-Decorations-Up-In-November, how much do you like Christmas?
I am somebody who watches Love Actually all year round so I’m a big Christmas person. If I hear the first bar of All I want for Christmas is You, I get all the feels and I’m ready for it. My favourite Christmas song is Fairytale of New York though.

What’s your favourite thing about Christmas?
My grandma telling us a story of how fairies have ended up on the top of a Christmas tree. It has a rude ending so I can’t say what it is…

What would your Christmas dinner not be complete without?
I love Christmas pudding. I don’t normally eat deserts so it’s the one time of year that I treat myself.

If the traditional Christmas dinner was not an option, what would you have on Christmas day?
I’d have pizza because I’d still want to treat myself and I love pizza. My favourite topping would be meat feast, the whole hog. If I’m going to do it, I’m going to do it well!

What would you buy your character, Eva, in a secret Santa?
I would play it safe and buy her a makeup brush set because Eva loves makeup.

What’s the weirdest Christmas present you’ve ever received?
One year I got a huge cheese hamper off my Auntie. It was extra weird because I’m lactose intolerant ...and she is aware of this.

How would Eva love to spend Christmas day?
Eva is a bit of a princess so she would like to be with the man of her dreams in a very expensive hotel eating very expensive food with lots of champagne.

What are your Christmas traditions at home?
Family. It’s always about seeing as much family as possible because we’re all so busy throughout the year. We’re lucky enough to get two weeks off at Coronation Street so I cram it in with family and friends. As long as I’ve got family time, good food and good wine I’m happy.

On a scale of Scrooge to Putting-Your-Christmas-Decorations-Up-In-November, how much do you like Christmas?
Once Halloween is out of the way, I’m straight on it and I’d love to put the tree up then but my husband thinks it’s a bit much so I wait.

What’s your favourite Christmas song?
Baby It’s Cold Outside - Shayne and I like singing that one and I love Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree because when that comes on I feel super Christmassy.

What’s your New Year’s resolution?
It’s always the same for me - to be happier and healthier than the year before.

What would your Christmas dinner not be complete without?
It would have to be stuffing, definitely.

If the traditional Christmas dinner was not an option, what would you have on Christmas day?
Without Christmas dinner, I suppose it would have to be cottage pie or spag bol.

What would you buy your character, Shona, in a secret Santa?
I’d get her a new colour nail varnish because she’s been wearing this colour for ages.

What’s the weirdest Christmas present you’ve ever received?
Toothbrush heads off my mum! It’s not that weird though, it’s more useful. They can be really expensive so my mum always gets me them.

How would Shona love to spend Christmas day?
Happy, surrounded by family with David.

What are your Christmas traditions at home?
My mum and I have prawn cocktail and bucks fizz for breakfast but I have two breakfasts because my parents are separated. My dad and I have pate on toast and tequila.

On a scale of Scrooge to Putting-Your-Christmas-Decorations-Up-In-November, how much do you like Christmas?
1st of December! If I’m going to go to all that effort to put up loads of decorations, I want them up for at least a month.

What’s your favourite thing about Christmas?
Being around family and seeing them open the presents that I’ve bought them, it’s so lovely to see people happy.

What’s your favourite Christmas song?
O Holy Night, it’s beautiful because of the harmonies in it. It’s stunning and so relaxing and as it’s been used in quite a few Christmas films so it’s nostalgic and comforting.

What’s your New Year’s resolution?
I don’t like to set them because I don’t want to disappoint myself that early on in the year!

If the traditional Christmas dinner was not an option, what would you go for on Christmas day?
My Christmas dinner wouldn’t be complete without pigs in blankets but it would probably be beans on toast.

What would you buy your character, Daniel, for Christmas?
Some happiness because he deserves it so I’d buy him a dog.

Who would Daniel like to kiss under the mistletoe?
Sinead, as if nothing had ever happened.

What’s the weirdest present you’ve received?
I got one of those head massagers once off a friend and it sends shivers down my spine; I can’t do it!

Do you have any Christmas traditions?
I always go to the local pub near where my parents live, with my mates from school on Christmas Eve.

On a scale of Scrooge to Putting-Your-Christmas-Decorations-Up-In-November, how much do you like Christmas?
Because I live by myself and I’m not doing Christmas at mine, it’s only me that’s going to see it so I’m not sure if it’s worth it! I’m still deliberating so I suppose it’s quite Scrooge-like. When I was at home, it wouldn’t go up until usually about the week before Christmas.

What’s your favourite Christmas song?
I like Wizzard’s I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday.

What’s your favourite thing about Christmas?
People get excited in the weeks leading up to Christmas and people are nicer in December than they are in January.

What are your New Year’s resolutions?
To read a book a week instead of only reading occasionally.

Coronation Street Christmas Q&A with Tristan Gemmill

If the traditional Christmas dinner was not an option, what would you go for on Christmas day?
I can’t even imagine that scenario unfolding! My wife is so Christmas orientated that we’ve already ordered our Christmas turkey already. If I had to choose something else, I’d probably go for steak.

What would you buy your character, Robert, for Christmas?
I’d buy him something like a relaxation app or Yoga classes to chill him out a little bit.

Do you have any Christmas traditions?
Our kids all have their Christmas pyjamas otherwise we observe every other Christmas tradition there is. We get our tree on the 1st of December and we decorate it that day and we always take it down the day it’s supposed to come down. We have stockings by the fireplace - we do it properly.

What’s your favourite Christmas song?
If you think about it, they’re in the shops from early November so we spend a 6th of our lives listening to Christmas music! I have to say I’m sick of most of them…

What’s your favourite thing about Christmas?
Family and watching my kids create the memories similar to the ones that I had when I was a kid.
